Hi All,

I would like feedback particularly from those towing with a 2500 6.0 with a 4.10 rear end. What are you towing? How much weight? Any issues? 5th wheel or TT?

If you have the 3.73 rear or tow with a 1500, I appreciate your comments, too. Please identify your specific tow vehicle and rear axle ratio when responding.

Thanks!

LOL, will this suffice.
I have a 2007 Silverado 1500 'Vortec Max' (New Shape) 6.0L VVTi V8, 4.10 axle.
Disc brakes all around (I say this because all other 1500s have rear drums).
It has the NHT factory fitted Max Trailering Package, (you might 'google' Z82 and then Z85?) - plus I use one (not two) cheap basic Pro-Series Friction Pad Anti Sway and a Pro Series WDH in place.

It is 110% excellent for pulling our TT.
It has the 2500 radiator, cooling, brakes, rear axle.
Also a stronger 1500 rear leaf springs and factory fitted Brake Controller.
Power and braking when required are excellent and NO effect what so ever from any passing 18 wheelers.

However........when NOT towing, the 4.10 axle will give the sensation that the truck wants to either hold the first gear longer or will want to get into the first gear whenever slowing down to a near stop asap!
Some people might find this uncomfortable, it can be overcome somewhat by adjusting how one uses the accelerator when moving off, for some drivers that might be taxing, I know some just like to floor it, that would mean they remain in first gear longer with a 4.10 then they would with a 3.73.

I have noticed that new GM 1500s are now not available in anything bigger the 4.8L.

Huh? The 5.3L is the volume engine and the 6.2L is also available. Do you mean only the 4.8L comes with 3.73 axle? Well, the 5.3L comes with 3.08 or 3.42 and the 6.2L is 3.42 or 3.73 and a 6-spd vs. the 4.8L/4-spd. I'll take the 5.3L/6-spd/308 over any 4.8L 4-spd combo.

Anyway, I have a 2011 Suburban 2500 with 6.0L/6-spd/3.73. I have towed my TT less than 40 miles so far, but it has been great. My travel weight is only 6500-7000 pounds, but would be comfortable up to 10k pounds if the receiver could be upgraded on the SUV. The pickup receiver is better. Except for fuel economy, the 6.0L/4.10 would make any owner happy under 12k pounds, TT or 5er.

For 5 years we have with '04 Sierra 1500 5.3 3.73. Our camper is appx 4000lbs when travelling and the Sierra towed it relatively well. In the mountains (Blue Ridge or GSMNP) the truck labored a bit, but on flat land it had plenty of power. Our Sierra seemed to have a relatively soft suspension so I added helper springs, which didn't do much to stiffen it, so the ride with the camper was at times like being in 3' seas. The 1500 always got us to where we were going and we never felt unsafe. It was a joy to drive when not towing.

I just traded to a '07 2500hd 6.0 xtd cab 2WD with 4.10. I've only pulled the camper about 10 miles on a test drive, but I can report that there is no 3' seas. Acceleration was not faster when climbing to freeway speed, but seemed firmer, or more steadfast. First trip is later this week from VA to Orlando. PM me in 2 weeks and I could give a thorough report of flat land towing and my MPG.

Towed 6,000-9,000pounds for thousands of miles with 2007 and 2009 2500HD's with 6.0 engine. Loved them both but the 2009 with the six speed was a little more fun. 8-10mpg towing, 12-15 not.

I have a 2004 2500HD, 2WD, 6.0L engine, 4.10 gears. I have never encountered a situation where I felt I didn't have enough power to get the job done. The truck does what I need and I always get there.

Towing is roughly 9.5 MPG average: 7,000#, 34' TT
Solo is 11MPG in town.
Solo HWY is about 16 MPG.

I've got a 2011 2500hd 4x4 with the 6.0, 3.73 gears, z71 and z85 suspension. My 2005 K-Z 285RL sits at ~7500lbs dry. The truck towed it from St.Louis to South Carolina this summer no problem. Hit the tail end of the Appalachian mountains and the smokey mountains. On some of the longer inclines we had to slow down a bit but the temps were never high and I never felt under powered(more than once we passed people going up hill). The trailer had enough stuff for the wife, me and our 10 month old to live for a week.

I've had 14,500 on mine, twice now, often tow more like 8,500. I've done a custom camshaft and a custom tune to match, considering a 6L90E with a 3.73:1, but not until my 4L80E dies. My MPG is always mid-teens empty, never single-digit except those 2 over-loads, but I drive slow. I'm happy with my cammed 6.0, I'd do it the same all over again.
