Arrived on Friday afternoon and spent the rest of the day strolling thru all the vendors. I had the impression there would be a few of them till the big tent opened up on Saturday.............WOW, must be 500 different booths set up in various areas. I came in from the north and about 10 miles out started seeing RV's scattered thru the desert. I stayed just too the south and adjacent to the big tent....don't remember the name of the camping area. I could not believe how many RV's there were. I heard someone say they estimate somewhere around 15,000 RV's attend and I can believe it. Saturday went to the big Tent and it was wall to wall people. Looked like a lot of money changing hands....I even spent a little. I was there for two days and enjoyed it........met some nice people......would I go back......YES, but not on a yearly basis, I'll probably wait 2-3 years before returning. I would recommend anyone that has not been there, to go, it is something to see.

It's impressive to see RV's in all directions from town for miles and miles. Nothing like it.
I wish they could somehow get an actual count. You hear so many numbers thrown around that it would be nice to have an actual count. I know it would be very difficult, so many square miles and so many coming and going.
I'll be there starting Tuesday for a week, can't wait!

Glad you're enjoying it. I feel your frustration at trying to express the sheer size of the place and the number of RV's there. A newspaper in Yuma indicated the population around Yuma grows by one million during the winter months, and that would include Quartzite. Unless you've seen upwards of 100,000 RVs out in the desert, you haven't looked far enough.

I'm not sure how Quartzsite would be included in Yuma's population when Q is 82 miles north of Yuma.

Be that as it may, there are a lot of areas to boondock in western Arizona.

We left Q after a 4 day stint in the 14 day camping area on Plomosa rd on the 19th. That's between mile post 114 and 115 off 95 n of Q. There were many brand and interest groups out there. One in particular, Montana 5ers, looked to have about 100 rigs. There had to be 1000 rigs out there in that area alone. A-1 glass came out and reset our windshield. Good service out there with many vendors and service guys available.

Altho only the Space Administration knows for sure...it is believed that the Quartzsite show can be seen from space!

"According to the Arizona Highway Patrol Department, as many as 750,000 to 1,000,000 people, mostly in RV’s, converge on this sleepy little desert town of Quartzsite, located just 20 miles east of the California border on Interstate 10, for the rock, gem and mineral shows, plus numerous flea markets and the Quartzsite Sports, Vacation & RV Show." It's probably #1 in North America in attendance.

Quartzsite holds the distinction that 95% of the attendees already own an RV!

BUT...Branded as "America's Largest RV Show" is the Pennsylvania RV and Camping Show celebrated in Hershey, PA. In 2011 this event broke previous records with more than 35,000 attendees.

AND..,.The Florida RV SuperShow claims to be a big one! The 2011 edition was held in Tampa and counted, according to news reports, with more than 800 dealerships exhibiting models and over 50,000 attendees.

The OLDEST is the Seattle RV Show, an event celebrated for 48 years. The next edition is planned for February 2012

What's neat is to go there in July. Empty. Quite a contrast!

Did the big tent have many RV related things this year? When we were there a few years ago it looked like a county fair with only a few truly RV related items for sale. I don't call sheets, hose nozzles, colored beads, etc RV related.

A trip to Quartzsite is like a trip to Las Vegas:
You might love it, or you might hate it, but ya' just gotta' see it to believe it.
But unlike Vegas, what happens in Quartzsite, you take back with you......rocks, sand, spiders, wind damaged awnings and a lot of new friends.
I just love it when you are gassing up or at a McDonalds and somebody passing through asks the question? Just what the hell is it with all the RV's all over the desert?
