You can do this with all the Garmins.

Another cool thing is that I can reverse the process. I can create tracks in Google Earth and import them directly to the Garmin. I get not only the actual route but also 3D satellite images so I can compare things should something not add up or I want to deviate from the route.
Keep it simple when selecting a GPS unit and make sure it fits the intended purpose as close as possible.

True but some are easier than others plus some have limits on the number of tracks recorded and the length of time they are saved.
Actually, any GPS that stores tracks, waypoints, etc. and has the ability to output GPX, etc. formats can be imported in to Google Earth.
I watched Brooks trying to use his eTrex and it was mind numbing all of the steps he had to go through for simple stuff. For riding, any screen smaller than 4" is just not practical.

My wife gave me a Garmin Rino 530 HCx for Christmas. Great GPS that also has a powerful radio. Lots of great options built in, including if others in your party have the same radio, you are able to lock in to their location on yours if you get split up. I would highly recommend it.

Soo many options. I really like the Garmin Rino. However, I we don't know anyone else who has them. Ordered up the Garmin Nuvi. We are really excited to learn a new hobby and learn more. I personally like the idea of riding around and finding new trails just by riding around. It will be nice to have a tool that shows you what you missed just by plugging into Google earth. I uninstalled "Map My Run" and reloaded it. Hope it works.

Nuvi is a great unit, but is more street friendly. check into whether you can load trails and topo maps onto it or not. Out west you can be many miles from paved roads and lots of dirt roads never show up unless you load custom maps.

Update: Sorry took soo long to get back. I ended up with NUVI 3450LM. Another forum has been a big help and showing me helpful tips. The best way to learn how to use GPS units, is to "learn by doing" IMHO. It is much more user friendly and I have been able to chart the areas before I head out. It is a really useful tool to have. For instance, we were able to follow waypoints that I loaded before heading out for a jeep ride to scout new camping spots and sights to see while out there. Thanks for all your input.

For sure they bring a new angle/aspect to riding/exploring. The more you use it the more you'll enjoy it. Hope the group you hang with has the same interest as far as sharing info. That's why we like the Garmins so much as they use .gpx file format which is easily shared and can be used on Google earth, etc.

Yes, so far 2 people have them. As the group we hang with adds this tool/toy, we can then share with them as well.
