I am planning a trip to Jekyll Island, Georgia the last week of June and the first week of July this year. In reviewing previous posts on this forum, I see where bugs can sometimes be a problem there. Is the time frame I am looking at a bad time for the bugs ?
Thanks in advance.

Bugs are always an issue! I live on the west side of south Georgia but have vacationed at/near Jekyll all my life. Honeymooned there, in fact. I love the island, but you're going to fight the bugs, especially in the summer months. Spring to early summer is a bad time for sand gnats, particularly -- vicious little no-see-ums that HURT when they bite. Go anyhow and have fun! Just go prepared -- have on bug spray ALWAYS. Avon skin-so-soft works great, on humans and pets.

Bugs will be an issue. The no-see-ums and mosquitos can be daunting. Go prepared and it may be tolerable.

Jekyll Island itself won't be too bad, but the campground will be. By the end of June temperatures should be above 90 degrees and that's usually enough to kick the bugs into hiding. Unfortuantely for the campground it is heavily shaded, so it won't be as hot as the beach, but the shade gives the sand gnats (no see-ums) a safe haven. So spending a lot of time at the campground you'll have to fight the sand gnats, when you are away from the campground, you should be fine.
