I recently got a Dish Network Tailgator, works great. I already had Dish at the house and a reciever it works with. It is a variation of the vuqube but only works on Dish. It requires specific reciever as the software is in the reciever. However this puts it at a great price point about $350.00. Hard to beat and if you dont have it in the house as said already you can do the pay as you go service they offer.

Actually, Direct TV does allow this IF you own your receiver. You can turn it on and off at will with no additional charge. The trick is finding a receiver to buy as most are leased. Direct TV will be able to look up the serial number and tell if the receiver is leased or owned. You can find them on ebay occasionally, but they are more expensive than a leased one.

My gripe is that with all the bells and whistles, none of these new portable units will allow me to view and record programs on two different satellites . . .

Our Dish 722 receiver allows us to view and record with inputs from two different satellites simultaneously.

We currently use a portable Dish Pro 500 with two LNB's, I would like to find a easy solution for easy set-up without spend $$$ on a Winegard Traveler.

You'll need a Dish 500 Pro Plus and a Dish Pro Plus Separator. Note: Your VIP722 will work with this separator even though it's not included in the list of receivers. See page 2 of the install.

A Dish Pro twin LNB will not work -- must be Dish Pro Plus . . .

Sorry, I am using the "Plus" unit, looking for a good automatic portable that will have the same multi-satellite capabilities.

YES, absolutely. It's locked in and there's no way it can come lose.

We have a VuCube & ladder mount. 80% of our stops I can leave the cube where it is and use it. Otherwise, with the 50ft of cable, I can always find a line of sight to the satellites. Our Executive came with an older fixed dome and I have never even considered using it.

So do you leave it mounted to the ladder when you travel?

Not sure I understand. I can record 2 shows with Directv SWM, but I really don't know ( or know how you know) they're on different satellites.

Found my answer, on DishNet, neither Winegard nor Dish want you to use a receiver with two tuners or a hard drive.

thanks

Thanks to all for the info, I do have a tripod and dish, have used it when we had the 5er, just looking for the easier setup. I hope that I can just leave it mounted to a ladder mount most of the time.
