Looks like the company that makes Aliner is set to enter the Tent Trailer market in 2012. Their first model should be instantly recognizable to anyone familiar with the Coleman/Fleetwood Evolution series. I've gottta say this version looks even nicer than the original E1. The only thing they are missing is a front cargo deck of some sort.

Here's hoping the can avoid the mistakes that brought Coleman down.

Let's hope they are successful. Here is an earlier thread about it:

Coleman was always a good maker of tent trailers. When they quit making them and sold the name to others is when that went south.

That would have been in IIRC 1988. WHen "Coleman" sold the factory to Fleetwood.

They say you learn by your mistakes, in that case I must be a genius.

Living just a few miles from the CNW factory and as an owner of an Aliner, we are very excited about their newest addition of the Somerset trailer line. Several key people have came to CNW from the closed Coleman plant in Somerset, so they know how to build these trailers. CNW is committed to building a quality product, which will translate to no bargain basement prices. I'm hoping the RV market will support this type of business model. The new Somerset trailers will begin showing up at the dealer early in 2012.

CNW is the last RV trailer manufacturer in Pennsylvania. Many of us will remember one of the first TTs made, the Scotty. Their factory, which burned several years ago, was just down the turnpike a few miles from CNW.

Too bad some of the Australian makers cannot fill that market and start producing in the US. Folding Campers go back to the early 1930's in Australia, then they were more like the Aliner.

Having bought an A-Liner brand new in 1990 and selling it in 2003, I can attest to the quality that Columbia Northwest puts into their products. They would be the right people to try and pull this off.

The old school Colemans just were engineered better than the competition. No needing to clap reinforcements in the C channels, easy up and down, kitchen went into place without worrying if the sink drain is empty, the step functioned as a door securely, all supports were attached, and there was an obvious place to put back the crank handle, etc.

It will be nice seeing those as an option again.

Ok, did I just misinterpret something? The video has an "only seamless roof in the industry". My Jayco has a seamless roof. It's a 2006. I just checked and Jayco's website shows new year models with seamless roofs, so...??? I am always skeptical of "only *blah* in the industry" but this appears to be an oversight that is easily checked. Am I overlooking something?

I would think you would want to be 100% on statements like that when launching a product line.

I am glad to see this style of PUP return though! I indeed would like to see the cargo deck version reappear.

Since I live close to the Aliner factory and know many individuals who work there, CNW states the following:

"Every other roof in the folding trailer industry has 2 seams that span the edge of the top on both sides. The Somerset roof is the only roof that has one-piece of material that wraps around all 4 edges of the top. We import the aluminum because you cannot buy a painted piece of aluminum big enough in the states to cover the entire roof. All other manufacturers use fiberglass for their top skin. It is impossible to bend fiberglass sheeting in two directions to wrap the top like we do with the aluminum. We pay a premium for that aluminum, so we can claim we do have the only roof without seams."
