Has anyone made their own Class A cockpit sun shades. I would like to order a roll of Textilene 80 or 90 and either make roller shades to fit from available kits, or attach suction cups. I think I can make these so that they would cover the entire windshield and driver/passenger windows that I could use while the sun is setting or rising while driving, and/or while parked.

Any suggestions, good or bad. If you've tried this, how did you mount them?

Also, which would be better for visibility while driving, number 80 or 90?

Thanks

Nick

Nick,
I got my material at HomeDepot. It was in the outdoor section. Easy Gardener Sun Screen Fabric 6 ft. x 20 ft. Heavy Green Shade Cloth for $27.00. I used tan. Got the suction cups from http://www.rvquickshades.com/RV-Shades-Suction-Cup-5-Pack.aspx, package of 5 for $3. Think I got 5 packages. Was able to do my whole coach with the material.

I do not use it on cockpit windshield or side windown while driving. I do leave it up on the rear living area and bedroom windows.

OK, I took Pat's advice, ordered the #80 Textilene 48" x 20' and some suction cups. I think I can make it work.

We made interior mounted sun shades for our DP using the above noted method. I also installed grommets along the upper edge for the suction cup hooks.

Easy to install/take down and works great. We used the black cloth.

I bought a cabin set of custom cut, fabric lined sunshields for my fleetwood at the RV supershow in Tampa in Jan.
They are interior, mounted with magnets and are aluminum (I think Reflextix)on out side and sunbrella fabric on the inside. They look good and they sure stop the heat. They make skylight and vent covers too. Here's the website.

I too made my own shades from the Home Depot material. I did not used suction cups. After measuring the windshield length I added an extra 3 inches, this was to fold over and create a small pocket on the ends, this will accommodate a yard stick or some wooden stick material depending on the size of the windshield. I sawed a short strap (loop)in the middle to the material on both sides to hook up a strap, one side is stretchable this would keep tension on the material surface the straps have a hook which is connected to the side window frame.
Shade rolls easy for storage, it takes about 5 minutes to set it up.
Your thoughts?
have a great day SORRY ABOUT THE SIZE OF PICTURES DO NOT KNOW HOW TO MAKE THEN SMALLER

We have vinyl shades we use when we're in storage and I converted the velcro to snaps. I bought some 75% shade cloth at a nursery supply store and made side curtains and used the same snaps. Remember in a lot of states it is illegal to cover the side windows. In CA you are pretty safe using them if they do not cover the sideview mirrors. In my opinion, I wouldn't use them if they did obstruct the view of the mirrors.
