Our 04 Allegro on the Ford chassis has a fairly loud whine through the stereo when the brake is applied. Not sure if it matters, but it also has a wireless brake system for a toad, but I have no idea how to use it since we bought the rig used.
The whining sounds like what you would hear when the stereo isn't grounded properly.
Any ideas on how to troubleshoot or solve this issue? I have searched the forums without much luck.
Thanks!

Switch off one thing at a time until you find the offending system. Turn off the toad brakes and see if the whine persists. Make sure that the whine is not your partner.
Usually whine through the speakers indicates that something is not properly grounded, or that the electronic filters have failed.

I'll have to dig around and see where the controller/transmitter for the toad brakes is installed. That will be my first test here....

shiltsy1,
If I recall, the Ford chassis (F-53) units, use a power brake system that encorperates a small motor that engages each and every time you step on the brake. I'm not sure of what the technical name of it is, but, it's a brake "Boosting" mechanism. It's way more noticable when the engine is off 'cause you don't have any background noise to muffle it. But, maybe you're hearing interferance in the stereo system caused by that little motor, that is if, your F-53 is equipped the way my Bounder was. Good luck.

Fire Up - I think that might be exactly what it is. I definitely have the brake boosting motor you described. It is really loud when the engine is off. I wonder if that or the radio aren't properly grounded?

Well, the motor is grounded since the minus 12 volt lead goes to the chassis at some point.
Is it a new radio?
Has it always done this?

We only got the rig a month ago and it has always done this. Not a huge problem, just an annoyance. Next step is to check and ensure both grounds are cleanly connected to the chassis.

Yes, it IS the brake booster motor. Fords have that loud whine when you push the brake pedal with the engine OFF. You don't notice it as much with the engine running. Doug

Newer vehicles are spewing out all kinds of RFI (radio frequency interference) these days. You can get a idea of the problem reading the following thread: http://my.is/forums/f62/what-about-rfi-radio-frequency-interference-241382/. Some ham radio operators have gone so far as taking a radio frequency analysiser to the dealership with them before buying in order to make sure the vehicle does not interfere with the frequencies that the hams operate on.
As to your problem, my guess would be the brake light system or the anti brake system. Are you going to get rid of it? That remains to be seen.
