I am assuming its due to its age(8yrs), but the fabric on the very frt edge of my awning is curling up tight. I tried wetting it down and clamped a little weight on it til it dried, and making sure it rolled up flat when I retract the awning, but that was no help. Any suggestions on how to straighten it out?

There's nothing I've tried that helps! (Mine's 8, too) And A & E says it's a done deal....and Tuesday, my fabric gets replaced! I have a cover made up for the replacement that'll keep the sun off the roll both traveling and in storage.

Dealer says avoiding rolling up the pull stap inside the awning may be part of the cause, but age, sun, and wind-stretching is the primary cause.....

Hmmm interesting our 12+ year old MH, awning never did that. Thanks for the info though, I will keep that in mind.

I haven't noticed other awnings doing this, so I wasn't sure if it was common or not. It's not the answer I wanted, but I figured it was the one I would get. I dont think the pull strap has much to do with it, since its started at the 2 corners and gradually curling towards the center.

After figuring I didnt have much to lose, I thoughts lets see what an iron will do for it. Here is what I was facing...

So with a step ladder, scrap piece of 2x8, and a c-clamp, I made me a small ironing board...

I then grabbed DW's iron and an old towel, I started the ironing...

On the corners where the worst curling was, I flipped it over and ironed from the backside too...

Entire process took about 30-40 minutes with a 20' awning, while its not perfect its a whole lot better than it was...

We will see how long it lasts after the first rain hits it it or after the next time I open it up, but if I have to iron it once or twice a year I would be tickled. Next time I will use a longer board and towel and spend a little more time with it if this seems to last awhile. It beats having to replaced an otherwise good canvas.
