On a recent stop at a Petro truck stop, I found that there are NO gas pumps on the truck side. Had to retrace steps and enter the automobile pump site where there was a very tight area to turn to get out. This trip with a towed vehicle, I worry about the in/out problems at fuel stops. I have gassed up at a few stations with a 45-degree turn in and that works OK but wonder about regular truck stops.

Whenever I'm near one, I use CostCo. They allways have lots of room, lower prices, and I get 3% back on all gas I charge on the AMEX card.

My personal rule is to always plan my exit before entering a gas station. If I don't see a good way out, I don't go in.

In addition to what Dutch said above.

I usually start looking at 1/2 tank that gives me better than 150 miles to find an easy in easy out. I just refuse to pull into a station that limits my exit options.

Since you seem to be surprised at there being no gas pumps on the truck side, I am curious as to what truck stops you have found gas on the truck side.

I agree with what Dutch_12078 and gary1p said. I have been in tight stations and have to unhook not fun !! I avoid Loves they seem very tight and not RV freindly. Petro is tight but if you plan your exit you can get in and out. Plan ahead !! Good Luck

I always choose a pump located so that it requires a left turn to approach and exit the pump. With the pump on the driver's side and a left turn exit there is no way for tail swing to hit the pump, and I have a good view of the toad to make sure it clears the pumps. Of course you still need to keep an eye on the location of other vehicles, but they are not often as close as the pumps. On entry I make sure to turn wide so the toad will clear the pump and then pull in closer to the pump as I straighten out. I've been in a lot of tight spots and never had a problem.

We also plan (did with gassers before the diesel)--and have realized in some situations it only takes a couple of minutes to unlook our Toad--it it is only a couple of minute task. It is better to unhook, if in a tight spot than even try.

Amen....one time I got in and then had to unhook the toad to back out. Luckily it was at 1:00 AM so I didn't lose too many cool points!
