Friend of mine was a casino lounge comic in Las Vegas for many years. His favorite Canadian line regarding "thriftness" was, "Canadian women come to Las Vegas with two things, a pair of panty hose and a $20 bill and they don't change either one." His long term relationship with that popular downtown casino came to an end when he said the Casino Manager was just a "monkey with a razor cut". And the Manager had the best last line; "Cork Proctor is a very funny man but he won't be funny at the Union Plaza anymore."
He now works cruise ships and says if they fire him they still have to take him home.

thunders wrote: sowego we might be doing the same thing as you are going to do and stay home this winter in the snow. Wife and myself planning a trip for next fall to go back out West. We always went out west hunting or sightseeing in June or Sept, October until about 6 years ago. We went to Arizona (been to Arizona a few times on the Harley also)and Florida 5 times, kinda getting sick of Florida and going south in the winter. It time in our life that we experience the great rocky mountain that we always enjoyed and loved.
We are doing some of the same thing - rethinking our priorities.
After spending the winter in Tuscon we hated the entire time there and to be honest it's really hard to put our finger on the exact reason why. I think that it was because we missed the trees, grass, and things like that which we have been used to for all these years. I did not think the prices were out of line there - just didn't like the place is all.
Possibly will think of looking north and west next time in Az - however that just may be out of the question for me as my time draws nearer each day. It is becoming a real chore for me to handle the duties of driving, setting up, and everything that comes with owning and operating our coach. Not that I don't enjoy it - just getting hard is all.
So - this winter we have decided to winterize our coach and settle back and watch it snow. Spring comes and we have plans for something different.
We have family reunion in Sulphur Okla in the last week of May and will try and attend that one. From there we are planning on traveling on down toward the Tampa Florida area and an appointment to have our windows (2 of them) taken out and repaired (frosting). Then after that is done we plan on heading slowly back toward home by way of West Virginia where the wife has her family reunion the last week of June.
We have to be back in time for our church kids camp in July as we do all the cooking for them - and that is something we do not want to miss. Such a chore but such a blessing too.
On friendly thoughts - gotta say that everyone we have run into on our travels have been very friendly and made us feel welcome - except for one place right up here in the northern part - and that was our short stay at a KOA in Springfield Il. Those folks should not be running a campground. From the time I made a phone call (3 or them) trying to make reservations - to the time we finally left the experience was nothing short of "terrible" and never again. The place appeared (on paper) to be great, found it dirty, muddy, electrical problems with their outlets (that they denied and were rude about), had to move after getting set up, they directed me to go around and when I did they have sent me into a corner there is no possible way I could get around in my coach, sold me wet firewood, and in short dispicable. It rained all night and then when we left the owners were outside watching us leave - and did not attempt to warn us the road into the place was flooded. Had to drive through several flooded areas of roadway with 10 inches of water on road.
Enough venting - we stayed at the other campground in Springfield on the way home (forget name - just off the interstate) and that was a beautiful place.
God Bless

We have wintered in Yuma, AZ and the whole town welcomes the "winter visitors" they say that the population of Yuma more than doubles when we get there. All I know is the cost of living there is very reasonable, the people were very friendly and it did not get below 40 degrees. Had a great time there. We have been in Florida and it depends where you stay but the prices are definitely higher and lots more people, although it still never got below 40.

We normally go to FL, we went to TX this last year and loved it. Lots to do and felt welcome there. Won't go every year as the Valley is over 2000 miles from us.This past winter it was cold both places.

California all the way Baby. Palm Springs or San Diego is nice. For what its worth we didn't find Arizona unfriendly. Texas folks are pretty cool and San Antonio is our favourite place there.
Don't sweat the anti Canadian comments folks, we have our share of rude ill mannered folks up here too. Always happy to return to our American and Mexican hosts down south.

Texas is a great State and is home to most likely the friendliest people in the USA, or at least some of the friendliest. But we have spent winter time in AZ in our motor home and were very happy there. Last winter we were in Tucson and Tombstone. Both great places. I also really like the area around Tubac but did not stay there.
