You evidently aren't aware that the murder rate in the USA is higher than in Mexico. You just need to know where you are going and where not to go----just like the USA.

I just spent 3 weeks in the San Luis, Algodones area, NO Problems! I am returning in a couple of weeks and will be there for 2 weeks again. I work with a Missions group that is involved with an orphanage and some other things in the area, the coordinator there is a US citizen, he lives there with his family and feels safer there than most US large cities. Be aware of your surroundings and don't do anything stupid. I was in Tecate about 4 months ago and it was still the same little town as always. I am going back!!!!

I was in Algodones twice in June to get a crown on a tooth and had no problem. I would not hesitate to go again. Went down in San Luis quite a few miles a year and a half ago to buy brick and have iron gates made. No problem then, but I wouldn't want to go there for dental, glasses or prescription drugs. Pretty poor area. I think Algodones is best for that stuff.
