As some may know, our MH is in the shop awaiting HWH to catch up on manufacturing jacks in order to replace our 2 front jacks that have failed. Long wait. We also have a cargo door that was damaged and needs to be removed to take it to our body shop to be repaired/repainted. It is attached with 4 pop rivets.

The shop called yesterday and told DH that it will take 4-5 hours at $115 per hour to remove the door and about the same to put it back on. So DH went to the shop today to see for himself. The manager and a tech accompanied him to the MH and told him that they would have to remove the awning, the front cargo door (the damaged one is in the rear)part of the side of the MH, part of the frame and a wheel well in order to get the damaged door off. DH asked them to give him a drill and he would get it off by drilling the rivets out in 4 minutes - just like the tech did the last time we needed one repaired.

They both stood there with their mouths open and could only utter "duhhh." DH came home with steam coming out of his ears.

I am going with DH to meet with the owner tomorrow to make sure that he keeps his cool.

Is it just stupidity or do they not want our business or is it just trying to rip us off? I can't figure it out. Once, they tried to sell us on installing a whole 10 gallon hot water heater because they could not find the manufacturer of the continuous hot system which I found online in about a minute and then ordered the part myself.

It's like pulling teeth without novacaine to do business with these people! Why?

They had a chance to try to NOT be rip off artists. Move on to a different shop.

Not to be a wisenheimer, but after the first fiasco with the water heater. Why did you go back to them?

I had this sort of nonsense happen to me several times form different shops. The last time this happened to me was when I was a CA.. Afer said repair to the slide, I woke up to a flooded/soaked front carpet (not just wet mind you, but flooded). Wasn't a good day to say the least.

That’s why when you find the right shop or tech, is a blessing, a real blessing and is why even if I'm away from AZ (like when I was in CA). I send couple of cases of brew to my guy's in AZ for Christmas.

You are dealing with a shop that can be best described as incompetent. Why do you keep going back?

Why is it in the shop waiting for parts? It is still usable without the leveling jacks. If DH can remove the door, can't he take it to a body shop?

As to why we returned to this shop: it is the only game in town - there are no others within 80 miles and we figured that replacing jacks couldn't be that big of a deal.

It is at the shop because we have been waiting for jacks which they said would be installed immediately upon receipt and it is best to have the MH on site so they can get to it quickly.

DH didn't take tools with him to the shop, on of the techs had removed a door once before in 4 minutes or less, so we assumed (I know - bad word) that it would be done again. Not so.

I think we will take it back to storage tomorrow and go to HWH in Iowa on the next trip.
