For later V-10 powered class A motorhomes, I would like to know how many miles you've had on your rig when you replaced brake pads under normal circumstances. I don't want to know about unusual brake problems. Thanks.

I'm doing mine now,our coach now has 45,000 miles on it and we have had no problem with the brakes since we have had it.The pads were getting down but could have gone a little longer, but we are @ home base and I have everything to do it now versus on the road.I pulled it all apart wire wheeled everything including the calipers and repainted everything,Flushed all the old fluid and replaced w/new,and had the rotors turned. So I should be good for at least another 45thou or so!!

When all of you speak of "doing it yourself" are you saying you literally did a complete brake job?
How does one take the tires off and replace them, due to weight? What is used to raise the vehicle to replace pads? Are both axles disc brakes? what would the cost of a brake job at a mechanic be on average?
Thanks

I have 58k+ on mine and brakes still good. Last inspection said about 35%. I'll consider doing it myself when the time comes.

67,000 miles on ours and still going. Had them checked this month, still had plenty left on back and a little less on the front, but didn't need replaced.

I replaced both the front and rear pads on ours at 75,500. The fronts still had about 25% left but the backs were paper thin. Yes I replaced them myself. I jacked up 1 axle at a time and set it on jack stands. Then removed the lug nuts, wheels, and calipers. The lug nuts on our 2001 F53 chassis with 19.5" wheels are only tightened to 155 ft. lbs. Each wheel weighs about 100 lbs.
I also marked each wheel and a lug on each rotor to be sure they went back on in the same orientation. It shouldn't be a problem on the fronts but the valve stems on the rears should be as close to 180* from each other as possible.
I took my time and cleaned & lubed all the slides, cleaned the crud off the wheels, and shined up the simulators (hub caps). The whole job took less than 4 hours and that was with lunch and a coffee break thrown in. I don't know if all model years are the same but the front and rear pads and calipers on ours are identical.

Thanks Buy a tire dolly and a piece of pipe to help remove the lug nuts. Also, don't forget to get a big torque wrench.
