Hi all, anyone ever remove the access ladder because?
- It's scary
- It's vertical
- It's wimpy
- It's in the way

Don't know about your rig but for ours NRV encouraged owners to get on the roof regularly to check all seals and joints to keep from getting leaks or other unseen damage.
As far as wimpy several people on here are well over the 20-0 mark and the ladder supports them fine.
How or why is the ladder in the way?

It's great for holding other ladders, clothes lines, and the FMCA plaque... ...mine folds in half, and locks into itself for storage....Dennis

I am close - well lets say that my ladder can support 350 pounds. I will not say why I know that though.
It is probably stronger than you think it is. Yes I need to get on the roof to check the sealant in the joints every once in a while, and it makes mechanics job of getting up there to check and repair the roof much safer too. I normally use a 6' ladder to climb up on my RV mounted ladder, as the step to the bumper is a little to tall for me.
Good Luck,
Fred.

Thanks for responses. As far as being in the way, I always have some sort of hitch mount carrier mounted for bicycles, scooter, platform for firewood, etc. I was thinking about ditching the access ladder and using a 19' little giant that collapses to 5'7" and can be stored in the basement. It's not so vertical and much sturdier.

I damaged mine on an overhanging limb about ten years ago, removed it with the plan to replace it, but I haven't missed it, so it never got replaced. I didn't feel very safe on it when it was there anyway.

It's a great place to store a real ladder!

No ladder makes theft of your solar panels more difficult.
Same for illegal entry through the roof vent.
Keeps kids off the roof. I don't know what a lawyer would do with a neighbor kid falling off your RV roof.

Be sure to try that first. Getting up on the roof from one of those can be tricky. The regular RV ladder has really good hand-holds for the transition from ladder to roof and getting back down again.
NOTE: Any incorrect spelling is intentional to prevent those annoying popups.

My ladder is wimpy & scary.Just watch when someone goes up,how much the ladder
is flexing and bending, not to mention the tiny rusty screws in the rungs.
I have replaced ALL the screws with stainless steel ones.

That May or may Not be the right approach. Stainless Steel becomes very Brittle and can shear much easier than those Rusty Looking Originals! They May Look Better but I'm not sure that I would be any more trusting in them.
We use a Folding Ladder to go part of the way up as the Bottom Step (Bumper) is a bit of a stretch. At the Top I am glad that there is a permanently mounted Ladder to descend on as trying to step off onto a free standing Ladder is just too scary for Me!
