A charge for caller ID on a cell phone??

I didn't think any cell phone company charged for that. It is always been pak of the package since my cell phone went digital.

I don't have caller ID on my land line as they want $5-6 or more a month, I am retired coomunication tech. and understand some of technology. Before I retired I was programming new PBX's for private entity, with all the new "computer driven" programming "Caller ID" was just another option to program in any or all phones on the system (PBX).
I believe the Telelpone Co.'s have the same programming options, so if anything,it might be a one time charge to put that option on your phone, but it is huge ripoff to charge for something every month that the cell tel give to you for free.
Remember years ago when touch tone (buttons) first came in and it was an option over the old rotary dial, it cost extra, will this is the same type of ripoff, eventually that dropped that extra charge, probably by getting a rate increase.
I am a former AT&T employee, although years ago(not a retiree), but I refuse to pay them for something that should be free. They wonder why a lot of people are dropping their land lines, how about service?
Put the pressure on them, please, cause my DW keeps hollering for Caller ID!!!

Qwest Caller ID is in a pkg with a couple other items so may be called something else. I have Qwest and it is not a free item.

Y'all piqued my curiosity, so I got out the last bills from both Qwest and Verizon.
No listed charges for "caller ID" on either bill
If there is a charge for it, it must be included in the basic service charge, not an add-on.
