LOL on the 'heavy duty Saran wrap'... I was just thinking that.

So, to summarize, you can see (our you USED to be able to see) down the 'chute' to your tank. That area must be, by definition 'not blocked'. Some of the initial replies seemed to have had the same initial 'take' from your post that I did - that the 'chute' was blocked.

It sounds to me like your tank IS full, despite the 'empty' reading. Have you tried attaching a tank flush, and jetting the spray in to the dump-valve? I had a friend who's Black Valve was left just BARELY open, so all of his 'liquid' ran through the valve, and pooled up against his main sewer outlet. He hadn't used very much water (um, basically none) to prep his tank that trip, so all of his 'solids' pooled against the valve. He had to hose himself off after taking an unexpected shower (the 'liquids' hadn't pooled!!!) when opening his main cover (he was PLANNING to bucket-dump his Grey water). At the end of the trip, he had a heck of a time getting his Black to dump. It was tremendously slow because of the blockage, and the back-spray tool bailed him out.

I think it might be the fix you need.

If I hit the BLACK WATER button - only the empty light illuminates. I cant say if ther tank is full or empty, but dumped it, then it only took about 5 gallons of water and it filled up the toilet. The slide in the toilet opens and closes but the water wont flush.

Try this...

1) You inside with the toilet open and it won't flush.

2) Keep it open while someone outside pulls the drain.

You may very well just have a small tank. If you filled it tight with 5 gallons of water, and it goes away when someone drains the tank, you don't have a blockage... you have a 5 gallon black tank.

Another possibility if this is a brand new unit that I haven't seen mentioned yet is that when they install these tanks, when they use a saw to cut out the holes for connections, the discs fall into the tank. They then can work around and block the drain outlet.

You'll have to dislodge it from outside, and it could get messy.

Our tanks were mislabeled. Have you tried dumping the grey water tank even though it says its empty?

my open range bunk house has 2 toilets-- 1 you can look down and see the bottom of the tank--the other when you look down with the slide valve open and the water off you see what could be mistaken for the tank bottom (which is black in color)but actually what you see is the bottom of a elbow that carries the deposit to the black tank that is evidently offset-- IE not directly under the toilet. This may not be your case but then again could be some thing to look at. One more gross suggestion would be to take a shop vacuum and suck it out.
Might want to borrow your best friends or maybe your Brother-in-laws.

I'm poking at straws here, but I did have something sort of similar happen to by Class C. Only sort of. This thing was new to me when it happened. We were on the way to MI, and stopped at a rest area in Ohio. I was pleasantly surprised to see a dump station. I hooked up and pulled the valve for the black tank on the passenger side. I heard some stuff run out and stop. Closed the valve and then opened up greay tank. Rinsed all, packed it all up and left. I didn't realize that I also had a second black tank valve on the driver's side. Oh well, live and learn. I figure it out the next day when a smell permeated the camper.

I take back everything I said…

Forget those goofy lights they are nothing but decorations to begin with…

Start all over by going back to the dump station and dump the tank…

Use a clear plastic fitting between the dump pipe and the hose so you can what if anything comes out…

Or better yet a flush king, incase you need to back flush…

You will know which valve is the black valve because it will be bigger than the gray valve… the gray valve is 1 ½ inch and the black is twice as big at 3 inch…

I misunderstood your post because initially you stated you knew the tank was empty… it is important to know this first…

Ding ding ding we have a winner.

Our tanks were mislabeled. Have you tried dumping the grey water tank even though it says its empty?

I put a bucket under the drain and pulled what is labled as the the GRAY water valve.

KA-WOOSH, here comes the contents of the BLACK tank when pulling the GRAY valve.

Then, close the valve before my bucket overflows and check the water level in the toilete - and - it is way down.

So, my tank valves are mislabled. There is a tech somewhere out in Keystone land drinking beer with his buddies laughing his ass off about this.

Thanks for all the assistance, this web site is great.

Happy Camping.

I learned from this site that it is a common problem with Keystone. Glad it is a simple fix.
