Here in the northeast it's the Asian Longhorn Beetle that's wreaking havoc on hardwoods.
Currently there are bans on transporting firewood across MA/NH border and MA/VT border.
Local campgrounds are forbidding EVERYONE from bringing in their own firwood. It must be obtained locally, with proof or be packaged, kiln dried, firewood.

Eastern Hemlock
On a backpack trip I camped a day in the Limberlost, a virgin stand of Hemlocks. What a beautiful sight to spend a couple of days. What a tragedy to think all those trees will soon be gone.
Yeah I would say it is worth a few dollars to use local firewood, if you really need to sit around a fire. JMHO

Probably 1% of the insects are spread by campers and firewood.

But do they put any restrictions on the loggers? NOOoooooo!

THAT'S why I think the firewood bans are total B.S. Just "feel good" tactics by the politicians to make it look like they are "doing something" about the problem.

And probably your statistics are total fabrication/guesswork = BS!!
The transport bans are put in place by politicians - as are all laws in this country- but only on the advice of forest pest experts. I know - many years ago I was one of those who encouraged those politicians and helped promilgate the ban in my state!

I hope this will not throw fuel on this fire, but the Wisconsin DNR has a well thought out plan to deal with the Emerald Ash Borer. It addresses logging and what will happen in those areas where the EAB is found. It was no doubt developed with the help of those states that already have been devastated by the EAB.

If you look around there is usually someone who sells wood not far from the camp ground.

Our favorite CG has a guy that is very reasonable with his price plus he delivers it right to my camp site and dumps it.

We get there and I make the call and we have wood by the time we are set up. I have to admit to being very spoiled by this, lol.
