Normally, I might have defined camping in much the same way as the Wikipedia definition I quoted in my original post but ...

I can definitely relate to camping as being a state of mind.
Afterall... What is really important? The destination? The length of your stay? The cost or size of the RV? Social status? Or is it something else?
In my humble opinion, it doesn't matter if you call it RV'ing or camping, or if you have a million dollar class A motorhome or a pup tent. What really matters most is that you enjoy yourself while doing "it" and hopefully share your enjoyment with others. We are all different and some of us have more than others but in the end, we are all the same.

RV stands for Recreational Vehicle. That could mean anything from a monster MH down to a skateboard!! So if I am on my quad or motorcycle, both RV's, I guess I could be technically RV'ing.
But, I am a CAMPER!!!! No matter if I pack the gear on my back, my DR 650 Suzuki, my TC or TT!!!! The mode of transportation has nothing to do with it. It's the destination and the activities. One is just much more comfortable than the other.
I'm always off the beaten path, just depends on how far off I want to get!!!
Now, you pull into the resort with your monster RV, lower the shades and raise the satellite dish you are probably an RV'er!!!
But whatever you call it, get out there and DO IT!!!!!!

I don't care what you call it as long as it's fun.

For me, camping is off the power grid. Sleeping under the stars or under fabric, cooking over fire, and being away from canned entertainment.
I camp and I RV. They are two different things.

We camp. We go to destinations, but we always look for a campground that gets us out in nature. Once in a while we overnight at an RV resort type place, or stay there if we can't find anything else. But camping is what we like. After hanging around here (RV.net) we are starting to call our camper a trailer, but in our hearts it is our camper.

Rick & Cheryl wrote: Camping or rving, is an attitude, not what you sleep or eat in. I do think there are several activities that tend to define which you are:
You are a camper if:
1. You unload your bikes, atv's, firewood, swim toys, before you unhook. Nope - none of that...
2. You eat outside even if its raining. Nope.
3. You leave your awning out when you leave or during the night. Never.
4. You dont mind coming back into your rv with clothing reeking of smoke. We fit this one.
5. You use your outside shower. Don't have one.
6. You dont mind your rv sitting under sap filled pine trees. Hate sap - and acorns. LOL.
7. Your rv only has one ac. We fit here.
8. You don't take your shoes off upon entering your rv. What and get the camper floor all gritty? Yuck.
9. You carry two or more large ice chests. Nope, not even one.
10. You dont mind not having 50 amp, water, and sewer connections. We almost never have FHU.
11. You dont mind not having cable and wifi. Don't have or want a television.
12. You wash the bugs off the front cap/windshield after you return home. ??
13. You have more bikes with you than people. Nope.
You are an rv'er if you the above doesnt apply to you.
Oh, man! We're not campers - we're rv'ers!
