To really go "camping" you need a "tent"...

I think my 4 year old Grandson will have issues with some of you. Everytime he is near my Class C he says "That's Poppa's Camper".

I spent 26 years in the Army, a good portion of it out in the "forest" sleeping under canvas or under the stars. Cooked my food over a small fire, bathed in a "creek" or when it rained, brushed my teeth out of a canteen cup, and hiked for miles through the the "woods". Never once did I consider myself "camping."

Now I do my camping in a 28 foot 5th wheel. To me camping is being outdoors enjoying nature, sitting around a campfire with like-minded individuals having an adult beverage and telling lies to each other. Eating food cooked either over the campfire or on a grill and being able to fart when I'm finished!

Lighten up everyone...this thread sounds pretty snobby to me. If you're out having a great time with old and new friends, who cares what you're sleeping in or where you're going to the bathroom.

Camping is a state of mind, not a defined activity.

Just my two cents....apologies to anyone who feels offended. Just don't stop by my campfire for a drink....LOL

My daughter defines camping as any overnight where the covers have not been turned down and there is no mint on her pillow.

Like many: Camping = something related to nature.

RVing = not neccesarily related to nature.

TT and Motorhomes work REALLY WELL for both (and other things too) and ideally should not be forced into any one use pattern.

By the way- there are plenty of tent snobs who used to think that folks with campers were softies. Well, I guess we ARE softies, but many of us old tent snobs have learned that the bed, heat, AC bathroom and fridge are pretty nice- AND if it rains, you don't have to go through a major dry out of tents, sleeping bags, etc. when you get home.

(By the way- the tent still goes between the canoe and gravel bars on occasion...the rocks are a bit rough but.....)

I was a bit ticked off back on the east coast when people would call our 36' motor home a camper.
