Well said!! we think the same thing, that's why we bought a hybrid.
we still love sleeping under canvas.
just like having the amenities of a TT, now that we're in our 50's.

For us it varies. Sometimes we visit relatives and bring along the guest house. Sometimes we go to the beach resort and bring along our own beach house. Sometimes we travel the country and go RVing. Sometimes we go to the mountains or some other place where we're going to get 'in touch' with nature and go camping.
We started out many years ago with a tent as I know many others have. To me it's really hard to define it as camping if you're not spending time outdoors, toasting marshmallows over the fire, and doing other activities like hiking.

The Wiki quote sounds nice---and "camping" rolls off the tongue nice, but lined up in neat rows on blacktop/crushed stone @ Jellystone, and/or with gensets and ACs and sound systems blaring, and silly lights hangin' off everything, and kids with every toy they own, just ain't never gonna' be CAMPING, and in most cases, the intent and activities certainly wouldn't be defined as enjoying nature! It's RVING!
IMHO, CAMPING is a whole different destination, and a whole different set of activities. As far as I'm concerned, some state & national parks, and boondocking are about as close as RVers ever get to CAMPING.

And might I add that staying at a CAMPGROUND means you're CAMPING......IMHO

I'm with you,I still call it camping and always will. After a long week it's nice to call it a night and be able to use your own shower and crash for the night in the a/c.Is it still a campfire if your rv'ing?

I go RVing, no ifs ands or buts about it.
However, if I'm talking to a hardcore camper than I make sure to tell them I'm going "camping". That gets 'em all fired up and I receive a humorous lecture about how RVing is NOT camping.
As Ron White said "I wouldn't camp out if I were... camping".

I don't understand why so many have a difficult time admitting that it is camping. When I travel by car, I'm not car(ing) I'm traveling. When I'm flying, I'm not plane(ing), I'm traveling & when I stay in my TT, I'm not RVing, I'm camping. Who knows, maybe it's just a vanity thing, IMHO......

I'm camping if we are going to a state park for the weekend to get away and relax. I'm vacationing if we are using our camper as a hotel room when we are on the road and visiting new places. Then I usually don't care where it is parked since our priority is to eat and sleep so tighter spots are not an issue.

Hi All.
I believe a lot of us all started out as original real campers, with just sleeping bags and a cooler. Then moved up to a tent, then up and up until our present RV's or Motorhomes. So the word "Camping" sort of still remains the same for us. As we age, we enjoy our comfort levels much more. But none the less, our spirits are still campers. Just our means of Camping have changed. For us, its still mostly Boon-Docking. And only using a camp ground only when we have no other choice. Once upon a time, real campers liked to be by them selfs, in favorite places, with no other people around them. But times have changed, every where is getting more and more cramped. But you would be amazed at even the places even a motorhome can go off road. We still enjoy being away from people as much as possible. Only our tent sizes and styles have changed. Even with a Motorhome, we still have campfires, we still mostly cook outside over an open fire, weather permitting. We still carry all of our old camping equipment, except for the tent. We enjoy being outside, and Kayaking, Fishing, long walks. Just like real camper do. But it sure is nice to have a much nicer place to sleep, and have all the creature comforts that our RV's brings us. We are Campers who hhappen to be RV'er's Good Luck. Happy Travels. Dan & Jill
