Today I visited Cummins and Cummins Coach Care in Henderson, CO. I wanted to have my diesel generator checked and wanted to replace the 35 amp, 2 pole circuit breaker on the generator. Cummins didn't have the circuit breaker in stock. I have checked Home Depot and Lowes for this circuit breaker and they don't carry them. I then tried to buy a diesel fuel filter for my 8.3 liter Cummins ISC engine at Cummins. Again, no fuel filter in stock. There are literally thousands of ISC engines running around the country in motorhomes and I find it inexcusable that Cummins wouldn't have fuel filters for them in stock. So much for "Coach Care".

It costs money to carry inventory. You can be annoyed but you can't say it's inexcuseable. Usual now. You can say it's just a sign of the times.

I always try to carry spare filters etc. Speedco should carry any filter you need, but they only list one in CO:

Any Speedco in the US will have your Fleetguard filter, at a reasonable price. Cummins and their Coach Care, is an expensive joke, IMHO.

The circuit breaker is somewhat understandable, not likely a high turn over item. They would likely have the part from their jobber the next day, which I would suggest is reasonable. The fuel filter is different. I would wager that the Cummins dealer was back ordered from his supplier. A stock out on a likely high turnover item is not likely the dealers fault.

35 Amp breaker , why would they stock a odd amperage item that rarely fails.

That has always been my experience with the local Cummins dealer, the service is even worse. I used them one time several years ago and have not been back for anything. They ripped me off once, they won't get a second chance, nor will any Cummins dealer owned by the same people.

Quote: Today I visited Cummins and Cummins Coach Care in Henderson, CO. I wanted to have my diesel generator checked and wanted to replace the 35 amp, 2 pole circuit breaker on the generator.
Did you call ahead a week or so and make a appointment?
Did you tell them when you made the appointment.
That you wanted the breakers replaced on your MH?
Or did you just stop by and expected them to check and replace the breaker without a appointment? And them to have parts sitting on the shelf.
I have used Coach Care shops in a few different states. And I always made appointment a couple weeks or so out. If I knew the parts I would need, I told them when making the appointment.
A couple times by the trouble code I didn't know what part was needed. On those times, they had to order the part. And I had to stay overnight in their free camping site. Until the part came in the next morning and then it was installed.
I haven't been disappointed in any of their shops yet. And when I stop by the Ocala shop to pick up engine oil, air and fuel filters for my ISB. They have always had them in stock.

In this days economy more inventory means more overhead which means more $$ charged to you. Can't have it both ways, but then most of you never ran a business, espicially in a bad economy when you have survive....

Not surprised at all about the breaker...You should not expect one to be there -- but that is my opinion. BUT the fuel filter is a whole different subject.....It makes me wonder if they were low on supply and had them for their service customers and not for just parts purchasers....Bet there was one around there somewhere.
That said - I carry a couple of extras and believe it is prudent for every diesel owner to have one or two spare fuel filters in his basement.
