I would recommend the Geo Method (Black and Gray Water Holding Tank Maintenance Using Water Softener, Laundry Detergent, and Chlorine Bleach: sites.google.com/site/cbruni/home ) for getting both tanks "sparkling clean". It was amazing how much black "gunk" came out, and we thought we had flushed & cleaned them well!! and No more odours! We substitute Oxi-Clean for the bleach because of the fear of spilling bleach - the Oxi-Clean is dry before mixing. Be careful once it is mixed, it still behaves like bleach and can "whiten" your counters/carpet quickly!

The black tank smell coming from the toilet room came no matter how we operated the RV. All vents off, windows closed what have you, the stench was unreal, we opened the toilet room vent which has no fan and after much back flushing and cleansing the odor would finally slowly go away.

Only to of course comback after a day or so of use. So, the RV is back at the dealer getting the black tank issue checked out, so far they have ruled out leaks and claim the vents are all ok. They are checking it every which way they can so I'm hoping for the best.

The last two times we took the rig out I pre-filled the black tank with 10 gallons of water, 2 cups of Calgon and a squirt of non-anti-bacteria formula Dawn. I must say the rig smelled real nice on the way to the CG!!

After two days of use it held up well, no extreme foul odors came forth but it was a bit "musky" in the toilet room for lack of a better word. I also added a see through adaptor to the hose connector so while dumping the tanks I can see when the water is running clear.

I let the back flush run full blast for 30 minutes and then insured both tanks were as empty as they could be so the dealer could do their thing.

I am going to install new extreme roof vents when I get the rig back and I'm going to stick to the water/calgon/dawn pre-mix prior to going to campgrounds after our first shakedown system test when we get the rig back.
