We have a Toyota Prerunner automatic pickup and was wondering if anyone knows how much it would cost to have it rigged for a tow vehicle and where we could take it to have it done?

Adding a hitch and brake controller would probably set you back 350 to 500 dollars. U Haul installs hitches. On top of that you would probably need an auxiliary trans cooler and battery charge line run for the trailer. All that if you are paying to have the work done could run up to a thousand dollars. And for that you will still be limited to a tent trailer.

I'd guess to get a good tow vehicle you would have to spend about $35,000 and trade it in.

We mean to tow it behind a Class A diesel pusher.

You can get the base plates from road master and blue ox. I bought mine from road master, and the bolt holes did not line up on three mounting positions. Since yours is an auto, you will need to add a driveshaft disconnect. I was quoted $1900 to modify my PreRunner for being towed, not including the beake buddy. I balked, and sourced the parts myself. The only parts I bought new was the base plates. They were about $450. Patience yielded a brake buddy for $450 (new costs ~$900), and a Falcon tow bar including all necessary parts to complete the installation, safety cables, etc., for $180 shipped to the door. I will be installing a trailer light kit on brackets that can be removed to take care of the lights. Mine is a 5 speed manual, which I was lucky enough to have the only tranny that can be flat towed without modification.

Thanks. Looks like it will be quite an expense. I noticed you are from Paradise, Tx. We have relatives living there also.
