My neighbor has an Amana microwave/convection combo & when his wife is cooking with the convection oven nothing is done in the time called for in the manual. Yesterday he tried heating up a stroboli for ten minutes & it was just barely warm. I checked the circuit breakers & nothing was tripped. According to the labels on the breaker panel the convection oven is on a 15 amp breaker. This seems very small for an oven. Does anyone have suggestions for troubleshooting this problem?

Unless the breaker is tripping the oven is getting all the current it is asking for. I would guess the oven uses propane for the heating part and electricity for the convection (fan circulation) part. Could that be part of the problem?

WHOA Fellas,
This is an Amana MICROWAVE/CONVECTION OVEN NOT A GAS OVEN. They probably have a megatron tube that is on it's last legs. No breaker tripped, power is OK. Take it out and take it to an Amana repair facility, or go to Best Buy and spend $129 for a new one and install it.

It's broke - common problem. If it works at all, it's not the breaker. Ours did the same thing and the manufacturer repaired it under warranty. It wasn't Amana, but I'm sure Amana will do them right.

Did your friend pre-heat the convection oven before heating his meal? Ten minutes is not a long time... sounds like something you would microwave. The key to convection is the fan.... did he hear it running while cooking?
Also, did he use the correct mode... convection, combo, or microwave.
15 amps is the correct size breaker... the heating element is about the same as a good hair drier.

Did you also check the voltage being supplied to the oven? Make sure its not low or anything.

I have a friend and his will turn on, on it's own. He heard a noise from that direction, went to look, the heating element glowing red. He had to un-plug it to shut it off. Waited a while, plugged it back in and waited, sure enough approx. 5 min's later it turned itself back on. So it is left unplugged.

The Apollo microwave/convection ovens that Keystone used for a few years were unreliable as heck, and mostly left you stranded when you least expected it. Broken door latches, self starting, self quitting, inability to heat, general shutdown and fry. The funniest story was the hot stew inside and the latch broke so it couldn't be retrieved - what do you do?? Ours is a boat anchor now and Keystone changed to a different brand. Nothing to do with Amana I realize (thats what we replaced ours with), but the convection type seem tend to be a little more fickle than the microwaves.

Where can he find a combo microwave/convection oven for $129?
