How-come we come from diesel engine to pusher v/s front engine.
There are ClassC diesels, where the option adds just couple of thousands. With $300 fill-ups and about 20% fuel savings the option will pay for itself awfully fast.
Not very popular option, but id does exist.

Both will get you to the top of the hill. Some bigger gas and diesels will be there ahead of the smaller gas and diesels.
In my estimation, go diesel if you can afford to pay a bit more than the same size gas coach for the extra carrying capacity and the ride and the QUIETNESS. A diesel is just more comfortable. Especially a good choice if fulltiming.
A gas is perfect for those who travel a couple weeks a year on vacation and some local 3 day weekends. Very liveable and a more economical choice for the part time user. You'll still enjoy it.

Locomotiveman wrote: Qcampers, FIRSTLY the Diesel will be in the rear. Good. SECONDLY, the excellent torque and possibly up to 500hp will be only gotten with a Diesel. If it's a small RV a cheaper gas would get you by; otherwise it's diesel much beyond 34'. But, Diesel fuel is $higher$ priced. Depends on your budget and length you are looking at. Locomotiveman

It's not really a valid question - if you can afford a diesel why would you ever consider a gas engined motorhome? If you can't afford it then there are some very nice and perfectly adequate gas engined ones.
It's like asking whether you should buy a Cadillac or a Hyundai.

Class C's with diesels just a couple thousand more!! Really now. Again with the exagerated MPG's and 20% fuel savings. And to refer to someone else's reply about oil changes, I can change my oil at least 4 times for the cost of your single 10,000 mile change, 3,000 miles times 4 oil changes equals 12,000 miles and I could do a couple chassis lubes in there too for less. Air brakes awesome, and neccessary for the weight of a diesel, maintenance and repair 5 times the cost of a gasser. Whatever you want, get. Drive 600 miles in a rear engine diesel in the middle of the summer then pull over for the night and don't be suprised if you can't even sleep in the bedroom because of the heat.

Hmmmmm. I own a 36Ft gasser and am happy with it, yes the diesel is quieter and will pull more. If that's what you want go for it and the higher fuel costs. The bodies will probably rot away before either engine fails. I do feel my unit is as nice inside as the average pusher. The best I think about the pusher are the air brakes and exhaust brake.
I'm happy on the road.

to Dispel a couple of myths.
1. Maint. more expensive on a DP. So every 10.00 miles vs 3.000 miles Gasser has to add the cost 3 times if you drive 10,00 miles a year. Also nobody ever seems to throw into the equation that the gas MH brakes will need to be serviced at least 2 times as often.
2. Fuel costs well lets compare apples to apples. Diesel $2.619 Gas $2.559 10-20-09 in Mi. My coach 22,000 gets 11MPG my SIL 32' bounder with 8.1 Chevy 8.5 MPG you do the math. If running in the MTNS I still get high 10's SIL drops to 6.5 again you do the math.
I think it is hard to get the gas vs diesel thing right in your head. These threads lead to a lot of opinions of buy what I have. If you are looking for a large coach then it would not be right for those that compare a 35' and price etc.. you are not going to get 10 MPG either. You will also have higher costs if you buy a coach that takes a 400HP diesel to push it along properly and no matter what the gas crowd says there is not the right gas motor to push the big coach along as it should be. When you refine your search to a size and weight it might be a good time to post the question again.

I am willing to bet a tank of fuel that my diesel fuel costs are less on my 35' diesel than on your gas. Why bring up higher fuel costs when it just ain't so.
