One thing I do not like is that the minutes are rounded up. If the call takes 1 min 10 seconds you are charged two minutes. Of course it doesn't matter if you have the unlimited minutes plan. I haven't seen one yet that doesn't do this, our present Verizon plan is that way as was my T-Mobile before that. Too bad our contract has a couple more months to run and the grandsons service goes even longer so we have to keep ours in force till then or pay the early termination fee. Might be worth it as we're paying about $110/month now for 700 minutes and 1500 text messages on the grandsons phone.

I went with Verizon due to coverage. I have a contract with Verizon now, but my usage is very low (less that 200 minutes per month, little to no data). It is more cost effective for me to pay the $175 early termination fee and switch to this service. I pay $72 per month now and will switch to the $30 Walmart plan, thus saving $42 per month. I will have saved the $175 in 4.2 months. Plus I have the enV Touch phone that I can easily sell for $300.
I ordered the slider phone they have on the Straight Talk web site. It will be here Thursday.

The trick is in the "coverage area".
My tracfone deducts 1 minute for 1 minute of talk in my residential area and than deducts 2 minutes for 1 minute talk outside.
Again with my less than 300 minutes a year talks I have way more than I can use in my 600 minutes, $99 annual plan.

Doesn't look like they have shared plans so our monthly cost would be about the same as our present Verizon service and we'd lose the controls on the grandsons phone.

I have the same plan you have kajtek 1, but on reading the coverage area on the new plans they seem to have gone almost national in their home area. Where as now I have a very finite local calling area and roaming is expensive at 2 to 1 ratio. I am trying to determine if my assumption is correct on the new plans. Any one else check this out yet?

This should not be confused with the tracphone plans, it is not… this is a walmart plan with tracphone as the carrier…
STRAIGHT TALK SERVICE PLANS: Straight Talk Service includes at least two service options: Unlimited Talk,Text and Data plan, or a plan with a fixed amount of minutes, messages and data.
straight talk is nationwide and from what I have read so far that is your home calling area...
ROAMING. “Roaming” occurs when a subscriber of one wireless service provider uses the facilities of another wireless service provider. Roaming most often occurs when you make and receive calls outside the home calling area. Your Straight Talk phone will not roam. An indicator light on your phone may display the word “Roam,” “RM” or NO SERVICE on the screen while the phone is not in its home calling area.
SERVICE AREA MAPS: You will find Service Area Maps on our website, at www.StraightTalk.com/Coverage. These maps are for general informational purposes
MINUTES: All calls are charged at a rate of one (1) minute per minute of use. Minutes are deducted in full unit increments and partial minutes are rounded up to the next minute. No credit is given for dropped calls. Call waiting and 3-way calling will deduct minutes for two calls at the same time.

Just like all the service maps used are useless… what they call representations, but I call misrepresentations of their actual service areas…
but this service uses the Verizon system…
I am still looking into more accurate information about this though…
