jody h wrote: Do you know why? Its because everyone of us that plays in the stock market wants to make money. That cant be done here with such high labor so they go to China. So the next time you are so happy about your 401 or your stocks are up you can say i sent all those jobs there. The overpaid CEO sent the jobs over there to make the stockholders happy and look what happened to the stock market. All the stockholders crying the blues. And just google to see who is making all the money. The insurance company CEO. 9 figure salaries and we want to make them richer. Go figure!!!

I buy the best product for MY MONEY and I don't care if it was made by purple aliens on the dark side of the moon. I just purchased the Rode Stereo VideoMic that was made in Australia.

If there is an made in America option I will buy it, but most of the time it is no longer an option. If I can keep my fellow Americans working they will have money to pay social security for my retirement. At my age I'm trying to get rid of stuff not accumulate more.

I used to and with a passion. Not so much anymore. It is just getting too dang hard. When I see something I want I buy it. If it is made in the USA that's great!! If it is not I will just have to be content that I am supporting a fellow American's retail business and their employees.
Example. Went to a garden store (private business) yesterday to replace a cheap broken Chinese weed digger. I wanted one with quality and a fulcrum. Found this weeder hanging on the wall. I paid 12.50 plus tax vs 4.00 at Walmart. Advertisement on the package "Approved by the American Horticulture Assn". It is very nice. Cushioned handle and solid stainless steel. I'll never have to buy another one. Small print, "Made in China"!!!
I guess not everything from China is junk!!

I would like to "buy American", so I did a little research several years ago.
Of course, we all know about the "W" stores, often referred to as "Chinamart".
So, I went to Kmart. Most of the stuff made overseas (NOT just China, by the way).
I tried Shopko. Most of the stuff made overseas (much of it from Viet Nam!)
I tried Costco. Same thing.
I checked the gift shop at Cracker Barrel. Same thing.
I tried a locally owned and operated Native American shop. Less than half of the items in stock were made on U.S. Native American Reservations, the rest was made overseas.
I checked Tractor Supply Company. Same thing.
Big R Ranch supply? Same thing.
Actually, with the exception of certain "specialty" items (Carhartt work clothes, furniture, things like that) they all had pretty much the same assortment of stuff, most of it from overseas.
Wranglers, Levis, Dickies, Carhartt, Blizzard-Pruf, parts for Ford N series tractors, furniture made from pressed sawdust, etc., all from overseas.
Is the CEO to blame? Perhaps, but he has to answer to the Board of Directors, and they have to answer to the stockholders. Who are the stockholders? Well, the majority of them are YOU guys! (not me, I don't own any stocks, and I have no "retirement funds" that are invested in the stock market.)
So, WHO sent all that manufacturing overseas? IMO, a sizable portion of the blame goes to the American worker, who incessantly wants more money for the same amount (or less, in many cases) of work. When it becomes cheaper to send the raw materials overseas, fabricate the goods, then ship the finished product back to this country, than it is to manufacture the product here, there is more than enough blame to spread around, starting with the janitor in the plant and going all the way up to government regulations and taxation.
Yes, the CEO carries part of that blame, but there is MUCH more to it than his/her desire for profit (to keep his/her job?) and the bonuses the Board voted for him/her!

I've been using Chinese (Taiwan) automotive socket/ratchets set for 25 years.
Couple of socket crack in this period , but I also broke tens of US made tools in that period. Including about 20 Craftsman screwdrivers and couple of Proto wrenches.

If China and India were to call the debts that the US Govermnent, and your major banks owes to them, your economy would be toast.
They are using that as a economic weapon, and don't think they can't or won't use it. Both have populations that are hungry for consumer goods and cars, and they are not going to be buying Fords, or American made fridges. It will be to their advantage to have a American economy that is crippled, and unable to compete with them.
