I wonder what it would take to tether with the cells they offer.

Several of the phones are technically capable of tethering, but I think it's been disabled in the StraightTalk versions. I don't recall where I read that though.

apparently there may be a slight misunderstanding between the article and what is on walmart.

Well, what does this mean?? If you don't use your 1,000 minutes, does this mean you lose them?? Do you HAVE to re-up the card every 30 days??

Also, can you pay and extra fee for a 2nd phone on the same plan? My DH and I both have a cell phone.... would like to share the minutes. It doesn't sound like a bad plan... I'm going to look into it. We have AT&T.. No signal most of the time... and they have been going up on their rate... saying it's added taxes!! Sure!! We are looking into dumping AT&T ....

If DH and I could share this new Walmart Straight Talk plan....we would definitely go for it!!

DH and I are on a Family Share plan with 400 minutes to share which we NEVER use. I on a rare occasion send a text to someone. Verizon irritates me because they always charge extra for the text. I pay because it is cheaper than adding a text option to our monthly bill. The taxes on my bill are around 25% and I suppose that would apply even if we went to the WM plan.

The Straight Talk FAQ has some of the answers to your questions.

About a year ago, we both switched to Net10 (10cents per minute everwhere), prepaid. Dropped both our ripoff companies, and our land line. Picked up a $60/m. verizon broadband. Happy days are here again. Now I have high speed on the road anywhere that I can get cell service and my home phone is now hung on my hip.

Your might be the best deal for traveling family.
My ATT bill for home phone + DSL that we use for several computers oscillate in $50-60 range. That include several HOURS of calls to Europe every month.
I already own Tracfone and converting it to the program that would allow me mobile Internet makes me strongly interested in it, but don't think the 30MB of data during a 30-day service period will make me posting here very much
Definitely step in right direction. Give it another year.

Anybody remember the good old days of cell phones? My first personal cell phone was a bag phone. I think I paid $45 per month for the service and got 10 free minutes with that. After the 10 free minutes it was 90 cents a minute for peak time and I forget the off peak but I think it was still 20 or 30 cents a minute. And that was for coverage that only included urban areas.

All of the news items I saw originally said Straight Talk is being done in affiliation with Verizon. The odd thing is the Straight Talk website says it is copyright Tracefone.

This was trumpeted as being cell service by Walmart, but it appears to be more of a new Tracfone service that is sold through Walmart for brick and mortar sales. Online sales seem to go through straighttalk.com.
