Buying a 38' fiver and was wondering if anyone has had any problems with length and a 13'2" hieght. Please let me hear your stories.

We are about to order the unit and the DW did not sleep last night in fear of us no being able to go down our street and back into our driveway due to the telephone/electric wires. I tried to reassure her sayiong that wires are supposed to be installed at 14' from the ground to allow Tractor Trailers to travel the road. Also we saw the video of the fiver pulling down the gas station roof, is that something that is common, low roofs on gas stations? I will be visiting alot of stations due to my TV being a gasser.

Are there any overwhelming problems with the length at CGs?

The fiver should be about the same length towing as my 30' TT. My hitch is about 1' from my rear bumper and having the fiver in the middle of the 8' bed should work out to the same length.

Sorry for the long post, just so many questions that need answers before the the final sales agreement.

There will be some campgrounds you can't get into because of length. Mostly COE and older parks.
Length COULD be a problem in some gas stations, however, any station that caters to travellers/RV's will probably be OK.
Newer stations probably won't be a problem with height; some older stations could be.
Height generally isn't a problem on main roads. Secondary roads could be problems with low overpasses and low hanging branches.

That said, I've never had a problem at any campground I wanted to camp at because of length/height(mine is 37'). Some gas stations have a RV lane and I've found some of those a little tighter for length than I would like, but, they usually have no canopy over them so height isn't an issue.

From the end of the pin box to the back of my ladder I measure 38' and I'm 12'8" high. problems in the last 3 years but I have learned to look up when entering camprounds and sites. Get a truckers atlas and check you possible route for low clearances on the way. Not much different from 32 Flagstaff when towing.

I have a 43', towed with a modified class 8, and I'm 13'6" tall on both the tow vehicle and the trailer. Cracker Barrels present a much more difficult problem than any camp ground I've wanted to go to.

Make sure you spend some time praciticing in a parking lot to know exactly where your back end is. Nothing worse than getting stuck in construction traffic and going through a forced merge.

Tractor Trailers are restricted to 13'6". You can go anywhere they go.
I will warn you of one that got me....On a city street in the rain, trees were cut out by trailers passing underneath. Rain caused tree limbs to sag!!! Hooked limb with trailer, split oak tree..

That is a big and tall trailer. You will have some problems at campgrounds, but the problems will be dependent upon the type of campgrounds you typically use. If you enjoy out of the way spots, usually run by government, you will have difficulties. If you you only frequent large, modern, commercial campgrounds, then you will not have a problem. That height will not be a problem at almost all gas station canopies, but you should always be cognizant of it. The length may cause you some problems getting in and out of some gas stations but just plan your route in and out before entry. Your skill level will also be a factor. Remember this, every gas station gets it fuel delivered by a tractor trailer which is much bigger than your RV. They seem to get in and out OK!

My rig is a bit less than 13' High. The most problem we have had is in older gas stations. But most I can pull into far enough to get the hose to the truck. Then back out from under the overhang.

Most of our length issues are when we pull into a gas station and the convenience store is in front of the pump lanes. And we are only 34' long. Best to use the outside pumps, but we try to avoid those station layouts as best we can.

With my rear air on the TH I'm at 13'7" and haven't had any problems. As far as campgrounds,we are over 60' long with tv/th so we avoid "little" parks. The tv is diesel and we have never had a problem finding a fuel stop with enough over head clearance. But getting in/out of some of them with the rear over hang I have can get a few heads to turn to watch me tear up their approach ramps.Almost have enough blacktop under the back to repave my driveway.

I'm right at 13'6" tall and 40' long. I have had no problems but I've been driving tractor trailers hauling heavy over sized and over weight loads since I first got a license many many years ago. So I've learned to look for potential problems and plan my trips. But the height and length you mention are within the legal sizes by law for Federal highways so it really shouldn't be a concern. It's just when you hit the back roads and private properties you have to pay attention and use common sense.

No overwhelming problems. Call C.G's ahead and tell them what you need. We stick to truck stops on the road for ease in fueling. Be observant. Length and height are a non issue.
