RE: Beware in keys

Really hard to tell, sounds like a whole lot we don't know about. Are there just towing charges from the towing company, or is the towing company also charging you with additional storage charges at their facility someplace north of the Keys? How far did they tow your rig and where did they tow it to?

RE: UPDATE: Report On Tetford Smat Sewage Hose.

I have had horrible experience with Rhinoflex....
Trouble with the coupling attaching to the tanks..never seems to fit properly
Now I have a leak right at the top of hose by the coupling...it's a mess!
I am now looking for a more relable non leaking hose...suggestions?
Never had a problem with my RhinoFlex, and it is several years old. I'd say you got a bad one!

RE: Des Moines paper reporting attempted purchase of Winnebago

I read that one financial analysist stated Winnebago stock should be worth $19 a share with their lack of debt and lots of cash on hand whereas they are only being offered $11 a share. Can't imagine Winnebago going for this deal at all. Unless management wants out with a golden parachute like so many CEOs have done in the past.
Wagonmaster2Doesn't matter what one financial analysist thinks, they closed at $8.66 Friday!
And here is who is trying to buy -
"Winnebago Industries Inc, the largest US motor homes maker, yesterday said that it received an unsolicited takeover offer from racing car enthusiast Alex Mascioli, valuing the company at $321.5 million.
Mascioli's offer comes less than a year after he unsuccessfully bid for luxury car maker Spyker from Swedish Automobile for $43.5 million.
The $11-per-share offer made through Mascioli's investment firm North Street Capital LP, is a 29-per cent premium to Winnebago's closing price on 17 May."

RE: 06 acura mdx

Many auto manufacturers do not want to tell customers that they can recreationally tow their vehicles. Remco Towing puts out a pretty accurate list of towable vehicles. They say that your 2006 Acura MDX (AWD) with transmission BDKA is towable as is. They also say to refer to owners manual for confirmation and procedures. So I would thing your manual would tell you if you can, and what the procedures are. Just look under "recreational towing" or "towing".

RE: Poor quality construction

I have seen some of the Amish woodwork and it is very well done. I think the RV manufacturers take advantage of the Amish name to sell their crappy products.

RE: 93 safari continental friend want to buy

I think a 93 is not a good year to go into a first RV much less a diesel pusher.
Probably lots of gremlins, diesel is expensive to fix.
They would do much better getting a lightly used gasser 2000 or so.
Gremlins??? Brand new motorhomes have gremlins. And that mechanical diesel is less expensive to fix than a computerized one!

RE: Cummins 8.3L fuel in the oil

Yes, the Cummins 8.3 has a lift pump. Should be the same as the 5.9 lift pump unless some one has changed it out.
Here is a good thread to read: http://www.rv.net/forum/Index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/23623132/gotomsg/23623308.cfm

RE: Des Moines paper reporting attempted purchase of Winnebago

The story in the Wall Street Journal:
http://online.wsj.com/article/BT-CO-20120518-707959.html
But just who is North Street representing??? "Our firm advises companies in Mergers & Acquisitions, Capital Raising, DIP Financing, PP&E Loans, re-capitalization and re-structuring." I think this is the big question!

RE: Is this a scam

eBay does actually have a Vehicle Purchase Protection plan, but if it's something advertised on Craigslist, then it's a scam. Read ThisWhy do you think they call it a scam? Seriously there is a link somewhere, that says ebays protection program does not cover items that do not exist. Something about a contract...See a contract has to be legal and a bogus item does not qualify, so no contract...and feebay is off the hook.. Ebay would be broke by now if they paid off all the Vehicle Purchase Protection claims on scam vehicles.

RE: Dinette Invention

The only safe place in a Class A for any car seat is in the copilot's seat. The only two seats in a Class A that are tested and certified as crash worthy under Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards are the two front seats. Winnebago says that their "BenchMark" dinette seating is safe for car seats, but I do not know that it is certified as crash worth. The key here is "crash worthy" because so many of the dinette bench seats are made of very flimsy material and would not hold up during a serious accident and you would have a car seat come loose. Some have mounted a "copilot's seat" behind the front copilot's seat and attached seat belts thru the floor to the frame. Have even seen two of them attached that way. That way you have a solid attachment on a properly certified seat.
One time when we let my son take my older class A, I removed the two barrel seats for the dining table and strapped the child seats right to the floor there, There were already manufacturer installed seat belts which were used to secured the two barrrel type seats.

RE: Newbie Question About Towing With a DP

I have a mid 90s class A DP and no way can I pull that kind of weight. The engine and transmission will do it just fine, but the coach and hitch is not rated to pull that weight. It will depend on the DP and its Gross Combined Weight Rating (GCWR) and the hitch installed by the manufacturer. And the Class A DP are all different from each other. That is something you always want to check before buying!!!

RE: Coach-net

Just what do you mean, "they said it would be about 3 or 4 days"??? What would be 3 or 4 days? 3 or 4 days for the wrecker to arrive or 3 or 4 days for a Mobile Mechanic to arrive? And they never called back? Did you call them back to see when was happening? Did you call their customer service? Something smells fishy to me! I would have been fuming and it takes a lot to get me upset. It could have been that you were out in the middle of no where, in the boonies but even them they should have explained it better!

RE: Driving Question

First of all get your self some good mirrors. I just bought a set of these and I love them. Your OEM mirror acts like a blind spot mirror while the add on lets you see way back. Had the wife adjust the passenger side for me while we were going down the highway (pain to do it yourself while parked)Those are fine with your pick-up and travel trailer, but the OP has a Class A with completely different OEM mirrors, so they would not work.

Here in PA it would be necessary to go to a notary and sign in their presence. Both signatures are required. That is a Pennsylvania thing. Don't need a notary in most states.

RE: Progressive Road Side Assistance

My teenage daughter was injured from being rear-ended in another county. The offender played along as this company played slimy hardball, using denial (in a rear-ender no less!) and delaying tactics, knowing that she was a student from another county. Ultimately, following medical treatment, therapy, and recovery, they ground her down to almost nothing, knowing the hardship of an honor student staying out of town for a trial. I wouldn't do business with them, ever, even if their insurance was free of charge... Just one man's opinion. Why would it make a difference if the accident was in another county? State and federal laws still apply don't they? Was Progressive your insurer or the other persons?Think he left a r out of county, making it Country.
But then tplife's post still has nothing to do with Road Side Assistance, does it. And when in another country, you have to make sure all your "i"s are dotted, and "t"s are crossed when it comes to automative insurance. You have to even make sure your insurance is good there too!!!

RE: CUMMINS C 8.3 DP- JUST TOLD I NEED A NEW HEAD/HELP?

After inspection the crack is in the exhaust port. Which is apart of the head. He said if it was his he would probably try some kind of patch. He is going to have the machine shop look at it.the only "some kind of patch" I can think of is to weld it, and no way would I patch mine that way. If your going to go throught the expense of removing the head for the machine shop to do some kind of patch - better to get a new head!!!

RE: Another way to carry a unmounted spare tire

Well, how does he secure it? Tie raps, chains, weld it, super glue?
I get nothing from this post other than confusion.Me too! Because many DPs would not have room under the coach. I know I would not. No frame rails under there either. All flat and enclosed except in front of front axle and behind rear axle, and can't put it in either of those areas either. I have two choices - in a compartment or on the roof.
