RE: Importing Class A to Ontario, Canada

And, don't forget the GST and perhaps the Ontario sales tax. Probably harmonized. Taxes must be paid at or before the Canadian border crossing. Vic

RE: Vacuum for RV

I bought her this one for her birthday.... http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/61ApAH9K4HL._AA1500_.jpg height=400 width=400 she seems to like it alot :B best thing is, I know what to get for Valentines day....extra bags!! (It's a Panasonic OptiFlow about 250 on amazon) I am not sure what would happen if I bought DW a vacuum for a birthday parcel but; I am pretty sure there would be a lot of pain involved. A vacuum really doesn't look anything like a diamond! Vic

RE: Surge protector question

M GO BLUE WROTE I wouldn't plug into anything without first pluggin into my surge protector and then plugging the surge protector into the outlet... I think you would be wise to reverse your process. V/R (read EMs, electrical management system - Progressive Industries)first to the pedestal and let it do it's thing, then plug the RV into the V/R. As far as monitoring a volt metre, when you see a spike or brown, it has already gone through your electrical system and quite likely the damage is already done! Vic

RE: Horrible Smells!

If the toilet slide valve is leaking I am not sure what would keep the water in place to seal the black tank to the inside. However, if the water does stay put you will have learned that the seal is not leaking. Next step would be as noted; check the vent stack(s). The dry trap scenario is also possible. Pour a couple cups of water in each drain when shutting the RV down for a time. On return; if no stink the dry trap is the answer. Another thought would be that some food has been left in a cupboard or under counter storage area. I saw that movie with several potatoes. For something as tasty as a potatoe, they sure can create a crowd of strong stink! You should also investigate the GEO method on this forum. I have been using it solely for 3 years and never have an odour problem. Calgon is real difficult to get where I live so I sudstitute 20 Mule Team Borax. Works a charm. Vic

RE: slideout supports

Bad Idea! If the tires sink for some reason the supports will likely gibble the slide mechanism and that would be a real expensive OOPS. Vic

RE: Homemade wine...cheap, easy and not too darn bad!

I know zip about wine-making or drinking it. I use a lot of cheap Chianti for cooking but that's it. My sister is the wine-expert and goes to California wine country twice a year to buy wines. I would love to get my feet wet,(no pun) making wine. I have seen the grape juice sold in 5 gallon plastic buckets at the wholesale places. How much room do I need? Could someone give me a little primer or a point in the right direction? TIA! Search "home wine making" and you will get a boatload of information. There is a lot to learn but the basics are very straight forward and easily understood. Another resource is local supply stores but, you need to develope a basic knowledge first. Check with you community resource centre, there may well be a "club" of winemakers. There may also be courses through the city recreation department or local schools or colleages extension programs. Great hobby. The success is very palatable and down right tasty! Vic http://www.bing.com/search?q=home+wine+making+instructions&qs=AS&form=QBRE&pq=home+wine+making&sc=6-16&sp=3&sk=HS1AS1

RE: What have I forgotten?

You will need passports for everyone in your party. Not to get into Canada, but to get back from Canada. Keith Do kids have to have a passport to get back in to USA? Birth certs won't do it? NO

RE: How to mount bracket for RVQ

Gotta agree with the hole concern. Also, I sure don't think the BBQ exhaust is a real good thing for the underside of an awning. Try to do the mount so you avoid the smoke etall from coating the underside of the awning. The flexability of moving the Barbie also allows you to control the way any wind impacts the Barbie.

RE: Homemade wine...cheap, easy and not too darn bad!

Been making wine for about 40 years. We had a group that for 10 years made 500 to 600 gallons from grapes. Good wine and good fun. That drifted apart with people changing and moving. I now buy juice concentrate kits from Costco. They make a decent wine and the cost is about a buck a bottle. As with all kits, the Costco kits are a little low on sugar which will result in a thin, low alcohol wine. One needs to have a hydrometre and check the sugar content of the must. Needs to be at least 1.08. Sugar level is adjusted by simply adding granulated sugar and stiring vigourously.

RE: Refrigerator won't switch from LP to DC

leave it on lp, it doesn,t use much fuel, and easier on your 12volt system. I totally agree. Using the LP system is preferred to using DC. The amperage needed in DC mode really puts a load on your alternator. And,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, that is why 3 way fridges are scarce as hen's teeth! The 12 VDC just doesn't work very well and the propane use is very small. Vic

RE: Can Tiguan be towed?

I did a towable inquiry of VW Can for a 2011 EOS and was advised that none of the VW line-up is towable either 4 down or dolly. They indicated a trailer was the only way! Vic

RE: New RV Park in Red Deer AB??

There was a new one opened about 2010 on highway 2 just north of REd Deer. In 2010 there was a huge sign on the west side of the highway advertizing it. I think it was the same exit as highway 11 to Sylvan Lake. We drove in to look at it for future reference but were not impressed. The Westerner is better. I have been up that way going to Edmonton a few times since then but do not recall seeing the sign.....not sure if the park is still there. It was NW of the junction of Highway 2 & 11 maybe less than a mile. It is in the campground listing in the site address in my post. TeePee Village. Don't think this one would be satisfactory and it is clearly not in Red Deer.. The nearest "town" would be Blackfalds. The Westerner campground would be south east of the intersection of WHY's 2 and 11 by about 4 miles. Travelling south on HWY 2 from the intersection exit at 32nd Street east (left) to 50th avenue, south (right) on 50th Avenue to 19th Street and east (left) on 19th Avenue to the Westerner Park exit (right) and then follow the directional signs to the campground. The "campground" is an asphalt design (Caesar's Palace). The Lions is far more asthetically pleasing! Vic

RE: New RV Park in Red Deer AB??

The only two in the city are Westerner and Lions. Red Deer Lions Municipal Campground Open: May-Sept.30, 2007 Address: Box 5008 | Red Deer, AB | T4N 3T4 Telephone: 1 403 342-8183 This camp ground is on the Red Deer river about three blocks east at the first right across the 49st bridge (one way north). 4723 Riverside Dr. Having stayed at the Westerner campgound you know the intersection at 19th street and 50th avenue (Gaetz Avenue). To go to the Lions turn north on 50 Avenue. When you go down the South hill 50 Avenue becomes 49th Avenue. Continue north on 49th (right lane)until you cross the bride. Bear right onto Riverside Drive. Not sure of the distance, maybe 1/2 mile. Campground is on the right and well marked. In fact I think the entrance is the only right turn heading east.Decent place with trees, grass, the river and just down the hill from a large mall with a Safeway and a large retail plaza (across 50th from the mall. Should explain, when you leave the campground and turn north on 49th Avenue the avenue again becomes 50th Avenue at the top of the hill (malls intersedtion either right or left). The reason for this is the splitting of 50 Avenue to provide north and south bound oneway high density traffic capacity. The following is a site for central Alberta campgrounds. http://www.reddeerregion.com/central-alberta-campgrounds.htm A link to a city map follows. Mouseover will give street I/D. http://www.reddeer.ca/City+Government/City+Services+and+Departments/Information+Technology+Services/Web+Map/default.htm Better yet, Google maps or Mapquest. Enjoy your stay in our city. Vic
