RE: 1998 Winnebago Chieftain-No hot water

If you did not turn off a winter bypass valve, I would suspect a clogged or defective check valve at the hot water heater outlet.

RE: Genny stalled out when I...

My Onan will shut down right now if it loses 12v ignition source. It will run fine with the AC breakers off at the generator. Or if I forget to plug the shore cord back in to the genset. I do not have automatic transfer to do it for me. Some rigs cable the generator directly to the batteries. Others do not. Some rigs start the gen off the house batteries and some have a generator only start battery. The ones starting from the house batteries and are not wired directly there can run with no battery in at all. Draws the 12v from the converter or inverter charger. I discovered some of this the same way you did. Some I learned reading troubleshooting procedures. Always something to learn.

RE: Rectifier/Charger and related

You mentioned CB usage. Be sure and tell Randy you use a CB. I recall some had RFI noise with the PD Intellipower. But..check it out before you order.

RE: Kill switch for the generator??

You know what happens when assumptions, if you have a gas gen I am wondering if high temp contributes. Cooler fuel underway, fuel used up.Stop, air flow no longer helping cool tank. Open door changes air flow..too hot..vapor lock..or oil viscosity not correct for temp. shut down...you are running a multi weight with high end of 40 oil?Third swag. water cooled gen. temp rises..hose collapses..Your gen should not care what operation you do as long as it has fuel, is cool, has the correct oil, is making power and you do not press the stop switch.

RE: city water hookup overfilled my water tank :(

The check valve at the water pump is supposed to prevent that.

RE: Part Number

is this the one
If not maybe go to the maker listed here and find it there.
Found a pdf showing kits with stainless corrugated tubes..starting on page 6
Perhaps one of the kit numbers will help.

That I beleive is a 6345.
That is even better for the OP. Makes it easy to convert.

RE: Rectifier/Charger and related

All I have written down for it is a model number. TU-740-2
Triad Utrad 40 amp maybe. Noisy hum, eats lights, radio interferance, battery used as filter. Any thing you replace that with is a major improvement. The PD you are liking needs no battery to provide 12v for lights, boards, etc.
All I can remember is noisy. radio statitc. Maybe Chris Bryant or Doug Rainer could tell you more about it. I can't even remember what they look like.

RE: Rectifier/Charger and related

Where you saw the converter you mentioned, Randy is the best source for your situation. Give him a call. He has good prioe, good advice and service after the sale. He has helped numerous forum members choose best for their system and wallet. ask Randy I was all set to upgrade when he said " For 15 bucks you can plug in a unit and make yours smart." he could have sold me what ws best for him.

RE: Generator Battery Question

Easy way to check. Plug the rig in to shore, read with a digital multimeter at the generator battery for a range between 13.2vdc to 14.2v dc. That will tell you if your rig charging system is doing the generator too. Un plug from shore, start the engine. Read for 14.4v. That will tell you if the engine alternator is charging the gen battery while underway.

RE: Rock guard for Class A

I like the Ultra guard for a more finished look and to hide the custom sewer hose holder I built. I saw the 4" Rock Guard flaps sailing in a slight breeze, parked at a conveinance store, on someones rig when I was considering mine. The brush was not going on my ring period. There is a new device that works better than all of them.
