RE: Getting out the door

Using small "totes" to transfer items is helpful, one person fills and the other "totes". Also they will hold dirty clothes to "tote" back in. When laundry is washed at home "the totes" go back to the rv. Next trip only food and the special items need to be "toted" to the rv. We have 4 "totes", 3 go under the bed and the other into the belly.

RE: How long do you leave waste?

As long as you want just so there is some liquid in there so things don't get hard. You don't need any additive unless you just want some. X2 Best advice

RE: What do I put in my water? Bleach?

If the Clorox bleach is used in a small amounts it will not hurt you. About 8 drops per gallon and you can drink it. I dump about 1/2 cup of bleach in my RV water tank and fill it. My RV tank is 80 gallons. I am on a well here. Actually a concentration equivalent to about 1 part of household bleach per 4000 parts of water can be used to sanitize water. You could get by with 5 1/2 tablespoons in 80 gallons. Google Clorox and there is a lot of info on the subject.

RE: 2wh or 4wh

If I didn't have the 4 x 4 , I would be pretty well limited to highway driving. I am not a backwoods guy, but have needed when the ground gets soft.

RE: Pole Barns for storage

Mine is 42 x 64 x 14 high with sliding doors on both ends so I can drive through. It also contains a 28 x 40 ft workshop. I do woodworking and currently have stored about 3000 bd ft of maple, oak, walnut and aspen. I can park both pickup & camper and have room to maneuver lawn mowers, etc. The area were the camper is parked has a ceiling. This keeps birds from crapping on it. The 14 wide camper bay allows for some wall storage, shelving and still get around all sides. To work on the roof, I can either pull it ahead or do it outside. To work comfortably on the roof, you would need to park it in the center of the building or have a 18 ft high sidewall. The area where there is no camper or shop is bigger than my 2 car garage. I have lawn and garden equipt, boat, plus lumber, steel and firewood in that area. Not much I would change in my shed.

RE: CW Shipping = RIDICULOUS....customer service is even worse.

I was looking at buying an item that weighs about 8 oz and is about 2 x6 x 6 inches. Cost wast $6.95, with shipping and handling $19.95. Like I said I was looking to buy.

RE: What's your opinion?

I wouldn't care even if it's a tent occupying the site. First come, first served - or maybe in this case, first reserved, first served. As long as they're playing by the rules they're entitled to the campsite. Well said

RE: Literally running on fumes! (lesson learned re. fueling up)

Generally found that when compared to the gauge, the computer report, there is usually another two gallons when all systems say the tank is empty. This is true for both of our vehicles.

RE: night lights all around RV--where to get?

As someone who loves to look at the night sky, I am not a big fan of unnecessary lights. However, as we now have to be tolerant, I do not mind as long as the lights go out when the occupant goes to bed, as so many RV folks seem to go to bed so early! :) Agreed, hate the lights, but put up with them.

RE: Is it legal to ride in a 5th wheel trailer?

Here is one fellow who rode in the back of his grandpa's 5ver. Check this link.

RE: Winterized but water is still freezing?! Help!

First of all when you go to thaw lines and hoses out DON'T use torches or open flames. Use hair dryers, hot air blowers or even hot water. When you skirted your 5ver did you use any type of insulation? Insulation board or even bales of hay or straw will keep you from loosing heat from under the 5ver. Did you wrap the heat tape over the campgrounds faucet and pipes? Here too is a good place to add more insulation with hay bales if the campground allows it. When it does snow, get your shovel out and put some around the base of your skirting and over those exposed hoses. It will add some insulation value at the only cost of shoveling. We used to water cattle and calves twice a day in -20 degree weather and used regular garden hoses, but had to make sure the hose was completely drained after each use. It is not a bad idea to melt the ice on the ends so they can be connected. Good luck, you are off to a bad start and you have at least 4 more months of worse weather than now.

RE: Refurbished stuff?

I agree with all the positive posters. Have purchased "refurbs" from MP3 players(4) to computers (4) with very good results. Savings are from 30 to 50 percent. I figure there a refurb has been gone through and the problem corrected. I almost expect more problems with new items, because they haven't been "field checked out by people like you and me". Good luck with your 'refurb' purchases.

RE: Why I dont drink the onboard water.

The water for the city of Billings comes from the Yellowstone River. I try to NOT think of what the upstream towns are dumping into the river, not to mention what the cows, horses, deer, antelope, elk, bears, prairie dogs, ducks and geese are doing in the water... and the fish. Mustn't forget the FISH! Boil the water and this will destroy everything these animals put into the water. BUT don't forget that many hormones, including those found in birth control and ed drugs are excreted and go through waste treatment systems and eventually into the rivers and lakes which many cities and towns get their drinking water from.

Hunter dies when camper catches fire on I-94

I am not sure if this has been posted yet. Tragic and heartbreaking.

RE: Why I dont drink the onboard water.

Unless you are drinking distilled water, you will find all sorts of "contaminates" in water from dissolved minerals to just plain very fine dirt that doesn't settle out in the well but does settle in a little used RV or boat tank. Just think what the pioneers drank as they crossed this country.

RE: Using furnace while driving?

As long as the environment for the dogs and cats is not raining or subzero they will be fine. They will just curl up in a ball and tuck their nose under. As far as running the furnace when traveling, it would be like standing still in a 60mph wind storm. We all know how that will suck the propane.

RE: space heater

We use a 1000/1500 watt milk house heater with tip over shut off. They are lightweight, inexpensive, easily stored and with the fan circulates the heat. I use it to heat up my home office and also to add heat to my wine fermenting box. In addition I use it to help germinate my garden seeds in my grow area. Down side is that they have a noisy fan.

RE: Bottle Jack

I bent a 1/4 inch plate and went to a 3/8 x 4 x 4 steel plate on my bottle jack. Its seen a lot of use over the last 35 years.

RE: Bent my tongue pole thing...

Unless you can replace the bent tube with another tube, get another jack. The metal is stretched and all my experiences with straightening bent metal has never been extremely successful.
