RE: St Tires VS LT Tires

Not sure if you got a Discount Tire Store up there but most of them have room, and they usually have better prices then most places. Just put 4 BFG's on my Montana for $900 with a replacement roadside warranty.

RE: street motorcycle hauling

I have used a Pingel chock for years and a whole lot of miles. It mounts with a wing nut to a flat bracket and a countersunk nut in the floor. Take out the wing nut and the remove the chock and you got basicly a flat floor still. It's not a locking chock but I guarantee if my trailer does a roll over the bike will be still hanging upside down in the trailer lol.... I use 6 straps, 2 to the forks, 2 to the rear frame area and 2 to either the lower part of the frame or the rear wheel to keep it from kicking sideways. Compress your suspension about 1/2 way, this will keep your bike from bouncing around. Do not tie off to the handle bars because on some bikes they are rubber mounted and not that strong. Take a look at the Pingel, it's cheap and you don't need a big hunk of metal to hold your bike. The chocks job is to keep it from rolling forward not to keep the bike upright, that's the straps job. Buy good rachet straps not the Walmart cheapies.

Not the best choice for tire on a trailer IMO. But several high end 5er's come from the factory and are stickered to take LT tires. My last 5er an Alpenlite was one and it had Goodyear Wrangler LT tires on it from the factory. The Montana I just bought had brand new Marathons on it and after the trip home it now has BFG/TA's. I think LT tires will handle more weight then they are marked at and will take more abuse then any ST tire out there. I think the right size is 235-85-16. You will have 1 inch less space between the tires but a BAL wheel chock still fits fine. There not stickerd for LT265 size tires. Read all of my reply as you are misrepresenting what I have said. If you notice the tire size is LT265 which no trailer manufacture uses or is the 265 size a option. The 265 is simply not the best choice for a tire on a trailer. Agree with the rest of your reply on ST vs LT. Sorry, not sure where the 265 came in at but I was just saying that 235-85-16 is what most Montana owners have on their rigs and it is what I had on my Alpenlite and on my current Montana. I prefer to use ST tires vs. LT tires on any trailer be it TT, Fiver or enclosed car trailer. JMO You really should take a night and do a search on here and other RV forums and read up on ST tires. It's not like it is just a couple of people that had problems, it is masses of folks that have had blowouts that have torn up a lot of TT's. The evidence is so overwhelming I really can't understand why the government has not stepped in, they do anyother time.. If you are just running a bumper pull TT or even a car trailer it's not a big deal. But if you get up into 5ers in excess of 10k lbs then you are playing with fire and sooner or later you will get burned. I really don't think the higher end coach's would come from the factory with LT tires on them for nothing.

RE: financing new rv

Essx usually uses Bank of the West. My last 2 5er's have been thru them. Even with a score of 780 lots of banks just didn't want to finance a RV. They just happen to have the best interest rate back in Jan. and that included 2 credit unions. I remember it was fairly low but not near my paperwork right now to check.

RE: Finally!

That's the way you want to buy a truck like that anyways, used with low miles and warranty still left. Let someone else drive it off the lot and take the hit on a brand new one....Nice lookin truck.

RE: Campground Prices

If you are traveling thru Texas look for municipal parks. Some are in wooded parks and others will just be a parking lot. But a lot of towns have places for RV's and most are only $15-$20 with full hook ups. Even some of your smaller towns have places for RV's and a lot do not have rules on how long you can stay. Like here in Copperas Cove the RV park is in a city park with trees and ball fields. Go on down to Llano Tx and it is a parking lot in the middle of town but it is on the river.....

RE: Anyone ever use the oven?

We use oven for baking stuff and Micro for thawing out the steaks and storing the bread in. The bread in the Micro keeps the glass lazy susan from bouncing and breaking. Get a pizza stone for the floor of the oven to keep from burning the bottom of your cakes and biscuits. Pampered chef sells a square one the fits perfect. Make sure it's big enough so it don't have a lot of room to move around or it will bounce and break.

RE: LT tires, BFG Commercial TA or Michelin XPS Rib?

Does discount make you bring the wheels/tires in w/out a trailer in order to mount the tires on? I just ask because when I had walmart put tires on my last trailer they said by law they could only mount trailer rated tires on a trailer (I drove it up there between storage locations.) No, Discount will do it, you just have to find one with a decent size lot to get your rig in and turned around. Some have small lots. Walmart is a pain in the butt when it come to buying tires. My daughter and I had a custome VW Beetle Bug that had aftermarket wheels and tires on it. When parked at school someone slashed all 4 tires. I took them off and ran them into Wallyland. They asked what it was off and said nope they would not put the tires I wanted on it because they were not factory???? Had to argue with them and finally they said they would do it but you don't get no roadside warranty lol lol Ooooooooo that worried me lol lol.... I don't know where Walmart gets this law from, I think they are the only ones like that. Probably afraid of getting sued.

RE: LT tires, BFG Commercial TA or Michelin XPS Rib?

With all the stories of belts separating, I have always thought that was the biggest problem with trailer tires is when folks jack their trailer around in a tight turn. I spent a lot of time towing with a short bed and I never had to use the slider hitch. I treat my new truck the same way. I avoid places where I have to get almost 90 degrees. Just watch a buddies trailer tires sometime if you are around and they jack their trailer 90+ degrees.

RE: Tank full of water, new tongue weight

I dont plan on a another new trailer. Famous last words :B I have uttered those very same words uhhh 2 maybe 3 times lol lol I found out water in your fresh tank can make a really big difference in how your rig tows. When we had a TT (that was 2 'last' RV's ago) our fresh tank was at the very rear of a 28 ft trailer right across the rear under the bed. Empty on the way home it towed great. The first time out to go camping we filled the water tank and headed down the hwy. It towed like poop, was swinging and swaying. Didn't take long to figure out the water tank on the rear bumper was the culprit. We could only haul 1/4 tank of water before the trailer would go wild. Really no way to add weight to the front. Oh and I have had 4 'last trucks I am ever gonna buy' too lol lol.

RE: Stupid, stupid, stupid...

Verizon uses the same wiring colors on their batteries in those boxes you see in your neighborhood. Well one day in a hurry changing out the batteries in one I wondered why the thing started to smoke. Yep I did the same thing black to neg and white to pos. but there was no circuit breakers going from the batteries. A lot of people were out of phone service for a few hours till we got some replacement circuit cards and power supply for it. Learned to take my time after that.

RE: LT tires, BFG Commercial TA or Michelin XPS Rib?

Had BFG's on the last 5er for 4 years no problems and also on both trucks. Just bought a new 5er with brand new Marathons and went in and got new BFG's on it too. Check Discount Tire, I got 4 BFG's installed with a warranty for $900. I think you pay a lot for the name with Michelins just like any product that makes a name for themselves. Still an excellent choice, but there are tires out there now that will do just as well, BFG's being one. We travel a lot in Texas at 70 mph in 100+ degrees over the past 4-5 years with no problems.

RE: Remove scratches

Not sure I would use super duty rubbing compound if they are just light scratchs. Have to know what you are doing when using the heavier compounds or you can ruin a paint job real quick. If the scratchs are thru the paint, as you can see a different color of paint in the scratch, there is not a whole lot you can do. Touch up paint may help a little but you will still see it. If the scratch is still the same color as the paint then try a rubbing compound like Turtle Wax sells and they should disappear. If you have lots of scratchs take it to a Paint and Body shop and have them give it a buff job. May cost a couple hundred dollars but they will do a good job making the whole truck look better.

RE: Montana 5th wheels

"Excuse me for asking again but why not leave water pump on while hooked up" When I mean is like pulling into a rest area. But I usually do not leave my pump switch on when we are boondocking either. I do know they have changed somethings but it is frustrating with the kind of money you pay for one of these to have to "remodel". With my 03 Alpenlite I cannot think of anything I would have changed, heck it even came from the factory with LT tires on it lol lol... I only hope Keystone grabbed a few of the employees from Western when they went out of business lol lol... But like I said I still love the Montana. MileHigh---what is the problem with axles???

RE: Booth/table

My neighbor did his after he sat in my trailer with the table and chairs. Course we are both fairly,,, ok we are both very big men lol lol... He liked having a little extra room and not being squished into a booth. -----Those bug zappers are the easiest way to get the little sneaky son-of-a-guns that get into the trailer just before you go to bed. Before we hit the rack I run around inside the trailer and run the zapper along the roof. Usually get them all....

RE: BF Goodrich TA

Had them on my old 12500 lb 5er with no problems. Have them on my truck. And just bought my new to us trailer that had brand new Marathons on it and I did not wait, she has new BFG's now too. We travel a lot and are usually all over Texas in the summer, so that is 70 mph in 100 deg heat. Discount Tire was the cheapest and easist to deal with around here. Got them installed for $900 with a warranty. Warranty was a little extra but when traveling gives me a little piece of mind that if I hit something or have a blow out the tire is free and mounted.
