RE: Kingdome roof top Satellite

The very best thing I have done with my Kingdome is get up on the roof, remove the screws, disconnect the cables, and push the thing off the roof and watch it break into pieces :B. Our's was a continued issue with not being able to locate the bird and calling King Controls was never very helpful.
Replaced it with the Winegard Travl'r 5LNB HD dish and love it. Always finds the satellite, no rain fade, just an exceptional dish.

RE: Which TPMS and why?

I ended up with the TST system. Had it for less than a year. When it works it works fine but have already had one sensor fail and now the monitor will not charge and does not work. Monitor on the way back to TST for replacement. It was easy to install and I do not need a repeater or extra antenna to get signals from the sensors on the TOAD.

RE: Ford Escape toad

I am UNHAPPY, I checked with the salesman and the manual b4 I leased mine, all said it was ok,,,,,now what?
I'm no legal expert for sure but if I was in your shoes, I'd be back at the dealer expecting to get out of my lease with no penalties. If the dealer and the manual at the time confirmed it was OK for your intended use, and now that is not so, I would think it reasonable to say you were misled. Not intentionally misled but misled or misadvised at the least.

RE: Velvac mirrors

I purchased new Velvac chrome heads to replace my plastic heads from a local Fleetpride parts dealer at a greatly reduced price from what Velvac quoted. In fact, the fellow at Velvac actually recommended getting the heads from Fleetpride telling me I could save a lot of money. If you have a Fleetpride dealer nearby, you might check price/availability of those caps thru them.

RE: CAT 3126 Fan Bearing Lube

TEO, yes you can do that and I have seen a thread over on IRV2's Winnebago owners forums or maybe their Freightliner forum about how it is done. Some fittings and some flexible grease hose should do it. I've pondered doing it but just haven't gotten around to it yet. I'm at the point in life where I let the young guys at either the FCC service center in Gaffney, SC do it or a local CAT dealer.

RE: Ford Escape toad

NO, per Ford as an addendum to the owners manual, it can NOT be flat towed with the automatic.
http://community.fmca.com/topic/3996-ford-2012-escape-fusion-not-towable/
Wow. Some folks I met at Myrtle Beach 2 weeks ago are going to get a shock. We were pondering trading our '08 Explorer for the 2013 Escape (when it hits the dealer lots....completely redesigned Escape based on their European Kuga)and wondered if Ford has addressed the tranny issues. I found two folks with new 2012 Escapes towing them 4 down at Ocean Lakes RV park. One had just towed his from Canada and said it did fine. The other said he had been towing his for about a month and seemed unaware of any concerns.
I'd be unhappy if I just bought a new 2012 and would now be finding out that Ford was advising against towing it.
I guess we will either keep the Explorer or look for some other smaller SUV or crossover vehicle to replace it. It seems vehicles with auto trans that can be flat towed are getting fewer in number each year.

RE: Just a reminder to drive (EXTREMELY GRAPHIC)

Sad situation. Can't see how anyone in the SUV could have survived.
I live in a rural area and drive into an urban area every day for work. I have two SUV's but years in the FD, Rescue Squad, and the EVOC training we received, helped me early on to learn how to drive in snow. I am constanly amazed how many SUV's pass me like I'm standing still in similar conditions. Even more amazing is how many of them I see stuck in either the ditch or median when it snows.
I do believe many drivers of 4WD and AWD vehicles think they can drive as fast as they want in those conditions.

RE: Mrytle Beach rv comparisons

We've stayed at MBTP twice and enjoyed it both times. Large pull thru sites and a great little restaurant near the beach. We've only stayed at Apache once and thought it was old, crowded, and a bit run-down (that was about 7 years ago). At Apache, it was all about the pier and nothing much else.
As noted by some others, Ocean Lakes is our favorite unless we have some reason to stay in NMB.

RE: Burnt RV

Imperative to have an escape plan. Think of waking up at night and having a fire (perhaps from your Norcold fridge) between you and the front door on your DP, if that was the case. Can you get out of the emergency exit window? How far off the ground is that window? Where are your car keys if you want/need to move your car or towed vehicle? Who goes out the window first, you the wife or the dog/s? For those of us who have pets, if they are likely to panic and run away, do you have their leashes within reach to control them when you exit? Have you checked your smoke detectors recently?

Continental vs Toyo

I've narrowed my choices for new tires for my coach to either Toyo or Continental HSR1. Either will be 275/70/22.5. The Continental's are load range J and are a bit more expensive than the Toyo's.
Looking for anyone with experiences with either the Toyo's or Continentals.

RE: Need Help Finding New Door Awning for '02 Winnebago Journey

Camping World is an A&E/Dometic dealer and can order a new door awning for you. Or, most any independent RV repair center can order one. They are easy to install.

RE: Need a MUST SEE destination for kids

If you were traveling in warmer weather, I would have suggested a tour of as many of the great national parks out West....Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Arches, Bryce Canyon....the list goes on. However, with your stated travel schedule, I'd vote for Disney World if you have never been there. I didn't go until I was 57 years old and I loved it. Every 'kid' should go there at least once in their lifetime.

RE: winnabago windshield cracks

I recently replaced my passenger side windshield glass due to rust on the frame pushing on the glass and cracking it. Once the glass is removed, the metal will need to be ground or media blasted and treated with a rust preventative. I had a local auto body shop that does RV collision repair do the work. They worked with the the local Guardian glass shop to R & R the windshield. Final cost with glass and labor was $1,000. I fully expect to have to do the same on the driver's side at any time.

RE: Interstate 40 in North Carolina

I have a sure fire cure for your concern about steep, winding, roads. Drive over the Beartooth Highway from Red Lodge, MT to Yellowstone in a 36' DP pulling a Ford Explorer. After that, them little hills in NC won't bother you a bit ;)

RE: Winnebago Speedometer Not working?

Winnebago did not make a Journey in 1999 and Journey's are on Freightliner diesel pusher chassis. Are you sure you don't have an Adventurer on a Ford chassis?
The dash instruments are part of the chassis so your best bet will be a Ford dealer who works on commercial trucks.

RE: Trailer or Tow Dolly For Car & Motorcycle

Check race city RV products. They have two dollies designed for what you want to do. Obviously, these are not enclosed trailers but will let you tow a vehicle plus a golf car or up to two motorcycles.

RE: Cost of a full body paint job

I had my 36' coach painted last year. I checked 4 different shops and got varying estimates ranging from $11,000 to $18,000. I settled on a shop in NC that removed all the exterior hardware, sanded, primed, 5 colors with 4 coats of Dupont Chroma Premier for $11,200.

RE: Maiden voyage, Itasca D/P w/ Motorcycle and towing Jeep

I suspect your Horizon weights a bit more than my 36' Journey with the 330 CAT (you got a few more goodies on that rig, I'm sure). We've traveled in the West twice towing a Ford Explorer weighing in at 4,700 lbs and, yes, the 330 CAT is adequate but it doesn't sprint up those long grades. You gotta keep those rpm's up which also helps keep the thing running cooler. When navigating steep grades, I dont let the Allison do the downshifting....I am proactive and manually dowshift to maximize the rpms.
Also, if you've not already done so, you may want to give the radiator/CAC pack a good cleaning. Rear radiator DP's suck a lot of crud from the engine bay and road thru the cooling pack and a good, annual cleaning with Simple Green and clear water is usually necessary to ensure cool running. Also, with the CAT, make sure the slobber tube is extended past the radiator and below the frame rails. The fan will suck that oil vapor into the radiator/CAC and gum things up.

RE: Goodyear G670 Junk!!

My G670's (steer axle) rivered badly too. I had my alignment done with the coach loaded and my tire inflation is based on actual 4 position weights and the Goodyear load inflation chart. By 28,000 miles, I could feel the tires (felt like a cupped tire). Had the folks at FL in Gaffney give me an opinion on alignment and they said it was OK, it was common to see this on GY G670's. So they put them on the rear and rotated the rear outers to the front.
I am due a tire replacement in 2012 (7 yrs for me) and it will not be more G670's. In my area, my best bet will be either Bridgestones or Toyo's.
