RE: Toilet Flange Removal

Scott - How do you know it will be glued to the pipe?
Gary - How did you support the floor after you cut it to fit around? Or, did you just cut a hole big enough to fit over the flange? My floor is aluminum joists with sometype of hard foam between the joists-so tightly fitted it is really one piece. So there was no need to support it. I laid the new subfloor in the bath in 2 pieces. One from the back wall to half of the flange with the flange cut out. Then the other side with the back half of the flange cut out. Measurements need to be fairly close. I had some large pieces of cardboard box that I made a template and therefore mine fit exactly. Sounds a little complicated but it's really fairly simple. Then when I put the laminate down I just cut the pieces to fit around the flange. Gary

RE: Toilet Flange Removal

Perhaps you can get a small screwdriver under the screwhead to pry upwards while turning it(the screw). Sometimes this is enough to get it started coming out. Or maybe a set of Vice grips locked on the screwhead and then turn while lifting up. When I replaced the floor in my TT I found that the flange was glued to the pipe to the tank. Had to cut the new floor to fit around it. Gary

RE: Turned my bunk room into a walkin closet

Did the same thing with mine, but I also took the bottom bunk out-made it a TRUE walkin. The hot water heater was in the rear corner so I just put a shelf over the top of it. Tons of additional storage. Grandkids may not be happy if they want to go along, but I guess that's what they made tents for. Gary

RE: 2000 Coachmen Futura 2980fk from window cover hinge problem

I have an '00 Futura also and just went out and looked at mine. You're right about it looking like there is no access. I went inside thinking maybe access from the cabinets over the bed but no dice. I'm just now thinking that maybe the easiest access may be to cut a hole where you think the hinge may be from the inside cabinet. It wouldn't show if it were patched. Don't know what I would do for sure, but if I come up with something I'll let you know. Gary

RE: SD CDL DL needs to be renewed

Why do you need a CDL for your RV? Are you running a business or something. Just want to make sure I'm not missing something...Probably wants to keep it for the same reason I keep mine. At some point in life we may want to take a job where having one is required, and not having to go through the intense testing again to get one. Gary

RE: Saw a somewhat Rare Tow Vehicle today

Anybody remember what kind of mileage the vw busses got. Had one for a short while(camper bus), and in High school had a good friend that had an old split window one. Loads of fun. Thinking of maybe getting one to play around with(growing my hair really long and putting some flowers in DW's hair). Gary

RE: An Interesting 4x4 Motor Home

Why would they go and put something this nice on a 350 chassis? 4wd to get you to some great boondocking spots-you're going to need some extra water, supplies etc., then factor in the roads(or trails) you might want to go on, makes me wonder if the chassis is heavy enough. Nice unit though. Would look really great sitting in my drive. Gary

RE: packrats attack

I had a place in my TT that I suspected mice were getting in, thought I had sealed it, but evidently not. I got a rubber snake and laid it in the vicinity of the place. End of problem. After a couple months I saw some mouse droppings under a cabinent. Went outside under the TT and saw that the dog had grabbed the snake and moved it. I replaced it to the original place, cleaned up the droppings and have not seen any since. You just have to check the placement of the snake more often to ensure that it hasn't been moved, and more importantly remember that it is there-gave me quite a start when walking by it and not expecting to see it there. Worked for me. Gary

A TC that long and it appears to have a 'wet bath'?? Surely my eyes are deceiving me. You'd think with that much length there would be a huge bathroom in it.

RE: How will they get home?

If you've been to Florida in the summer you'll know that it's probably cheaper to buy the fuel to go back north than to run the AC down here. WAAAAY TOOOO HOTTTTT in the summer. :E

RE: My worst fear - soft floor!

Not sure what your floor is made of, but overlaying seems to be the best option. If you have a particle board floor that has gotten soft you might want to try to put some "hardener" on it before overlaying or if you can't get at a particular spot, this comes in handy. I have used it where I couldn't overlay and it seemed to work pretty well. Told my service manager at the dealership where I bought my trailer about it and he tried it with good results. Downside is that it's a little pricey (marine stuff is worse than rv stuff).
Here's the link.I have the same trailer as the OP and had some floor problems also. Bought some of this stuff to do just what you said-before I took the lino off. The floor is only 1/4 sheeting over 2" styrofoam between aluminum studs. I just took what sheeting I could get off and replaced it with new 1/4" luan. Then put a T/G laminate on top of that. Worked and looks great. Returned the hardener.

RE: "Summerizing" a park model in Florida

We use zip lock bags filled with water to place over every drain in the house(kitchen, bath, shower etc.) as the water in the drain traps evaporate-someone told us that when the water has evaporated out of the traps that this makes a great place for insects to crawl into the house(?). We lift the toilet seat and put plastic wrap across the bowl and seal it the best we can. Set the AC somewhere between 85 & 90. Don't do anything to the windows. Water to the house is shut off. Refer doors propped open, after drying out all the condensation and putting a box of baking soda inside. And it's great if you have a trusted year round resident nearby to look inside every once in awhile. Gary
