RE: Fuel cap seepage

I have an 08 Itasca Horizon and had that happen to me until I finally determined the cause. My fuel caps are the kind that have a racheting sound when they are tight similar to all of the new autos. I determined that even though the caps racheted they were not fully seated. So now I make sure they are screwed down all of the way by applying a little extra downward pressure when I close the caps. Since that time they have not leaked.

RE: Setting up DirecTV

I agree with others who have recommended the Winegard Traveler. Push a button and forget it. When you get ready to leave, push a button and forget it. If you are planning on keeping this coach for a while also recommend the Traveler because it will handle any setup you want. SD for now and HD later on. DirecTV no longer has receivers with coax out terminals. Just get an RF modulator (Radio Shack, Walmart, etc). It will bridge the gap between the receiver and a coax fitting. Winegard has solved the problems with the wind, especially in the Traveler.

Eastbound routes to Gettysburg

This summer we are heading east for a multi-stop tour, most of which I have no question about. There is one section I would like some opinions on. We will be traveling from Dayton, OH to Gettysburg. After I enter Pennsylvania I see two options. One, continue on I-70 to the PA turnpike then US-30 to Gettysburg. Two, at Washington, PA cut south on I-79, then I-68/I-70 through N Maryland to I-81 and then US 30 to Gettysburg. I have not driven through this area in 25 years and that was in an auto. These two routes are about the same distance but of course the Turnpike is going to cost extra $$. I am not concerned about hilly terrain after spending 20 years driving the Sierras and Rockies.

RE: Replacing coach and chassis batteries

Maybe a better way to approach the question is how long to you plan to keep the coach. If you are going to trade or sell the coach in the next year or so it is probably a good bet the batteries are going to last that long. If you are going to keep the coach for up to 10 years go ahead and change them this year. If you push them as far as they will go that will happen at the most inconvenient time.

RE: TST Tire Pressure problems

This is a wrap up post with my experiences in getting my sensors mounted. I decided to use extensions on the wheels that I had problems installing the sensors. I found 1.5 inch metal extensions and they worked perfectly on the four tires that I had problems with. I may have the valve stems adjusted when I get home but only if it not a hassle and expensive. I don't feel like paying a bunch of bucks just for style purposes. I may have the rear outside dual valve stems rotated 90-degrees just to ease the hassle of reaching those sensors as they are now mounted pointing to the inside. Any adjustments may just wait until I get new tires in a couple of years.
Fire Up, those wheels that Executive posted may be Accuride but they are not the same model you and I have. I agree his wheel openings are larger and more oval than ours.

RE: TST Tire Pressure problems

Nothing like getting quick response. Thanks to all. To answer the question I have the newer 507 system. There have basically been three answers.
1. Remove the outer security shell which reduces the diameter. I tried that but it did not quite fit. Oh so close.
2. Valve extenders. Thanks to those who responded with their experiences.
3. Adjust the valves so the sensors will fit. I had never thought about rotating the outer dual valve 90-degrees, duh.
Since I am in Florida for the winter and leaving in two weeks I am going to go with #2 until I get home and then go with #3. Number 1 is a good option because I do not think there are people out there wandering around looking for sensors they can remove. I doubt the casual passerby would even know what they are.
Fire Up, you can still purchase these but now you will be aware of some of the installation problems. I have no clue if the other systems have smaller sensors. I would doubt it.

TST Tire Pressure problems

After noting that the TST tire pressure system has had good reviews on this forum I ordered a set. Today was to be "learn about the system and set up the sensors" day. Did not go well. Upon trying to fit the first sensor to the right front wheel valve I find there is not enough room in the wheel opening for the sensor to fit. These are Accuride wheels with rather narrow triangular openings. Same situation on the outside duals. The sensors will fit on the inside duals. The most obvious fix would be to use short valve extenders. However, I am somewhat concerned about the front wheel sensors extending beyond the wheel surface and possibly getting damaged from road debris. Also, the outside dual installation would have to be done by reaching between the duals and I haven't gotten far enough to even see if that is feasable. Has anyone else run into this problem and, if so, what was your fix. Yes, I know there are other systems out there that might work but let's stick to this problem first.

RE: Air From front connection

You can use either a male or female connection. Of course, you just have to have the opposite on the hose. I believe you will find most of those type devices use a female fitting on the coach and a male fitting on the hose.

Of the two coaches you mention you will get more for your money with the Phaeton, plus the Journey does not have pass through storage.

RE: Coach painting..

I too would recommend CDI in Forest City. I have seen their work. They have graphic artists that will work with you and you will get a one-of-a-kind paint job.

RE: Best source for ISL air filter

I have a 08 ISL 425 and use Filter 1 for my filters. The filter I got last summer cost me 78.48 with free shipping. Try this site:
http://www.filter1.com/. They have a way for you to look up the Wix filter number for your application. A Wix came on my coach and the replacement was the same filter.

RE: Oil change really necessary yet? (DP)

Something to think about. I have no problem with any of the above information. Everyone has an opinion and that is fine with me as it is your money not mine. However, there are some points you might keep in mind.
If you store your coach during the year and change oil once a year it is best to do it before you put the unit in storage. The reasoning is that if you do not change it before storage all of the impurities that have been gathered by the oil during the year just sit there and work on the engine surfaces during the storage period. You should treat any internal combustion engine in this manner be it auto, motor coach, lawn mower, etc. Regardless of any analysis, oil that has been used for a period of time will not be as "lint free" as new oil.
Owners will spend thousands of dollars on add-ons (supp braking systems, TPMS, etc.) and go to great lengths to save a few dollars on oil.
It is a DP. It is like a boat or airplane. It costs money to own.

RE: length rules ?

One would assume that you know other racers that have these setups. Or know those who know them, etc. Also, talk to the state folks and see what they say. As a side note you might notice that most semi trailers have a 53ft decal on them and are far less than 80 ft. If they could be 80ft that is what you would see. Finally, you sure don't need a 42ft unit to pull that trailer.

RE: Can you stake a WeatherPro?

When in Florida for the winter I anchor my WeatherPro for four months using those spring-tensioned cables. Have done this for the past 8 years without a problem. BUT, my site and the entire park has many trees and is faily well protected from the wind. For the rest of the year, at all of our rallys, when I use the awning I do not anchor it. If I am going to leave the area I put up the awning. I do the same any night that is questionable. Ease of stowing is the best thing about these new awnings.

RE: Flying J truck islands

First off it sounds as though you are in such a hurry you really need a pit crew.
That being said, if some question comes up on the screen that you don't have an answer to, such as unit number, just press enter. This is not rocket science.

RE: Cloths drying rack that mounts to hitch receiver

I believe the one from Camping World is just like the one he currently has. I also have one of those.
If you want to use it from the hitch receiver why not have a T bar made to go into your receiver and then attach the drying rack to it? It should be simple and cheap to get one welded out of aluminum.

I have found that something that is an option on a Winnebago may be standard equipment on an Itasca of the same floor plan.

RE: gasser in the western mountains

After a 5th wheel my first motor coach was a 92 32ft Winnebago Chieftan with a 454. At the time we lived west of Reno and we traveled all over that part of the west. Climbing I-80 westbound through Donner Pass was not difficult even in the summer. The newer engine and transmission combinations should make it a lot easier to travel the mountains.

We are on our second coach with a sleep number bed. Works as advertised. I can sleep on a rock but my wife would replace me if I got rid of the sleep number. Remember, if the wife is happy everyone is happy.
