RE: Tennessee License Plate

If you are referring to a permanant Simi tag. I don't beleive these can be transferred, also thought the perm. tag were for trailers only not a motor driven vehicle. Check with DMV.
Good luck

RE: Are You Better Off?

I found an article that’s is a just a little discouraging as my wife and I have plans to retire next year. The full US News Article is here.. What’s your experience with these 7 Misconceptions especially as an RVer? And, are you yet fully retired? Here's the article in brief:
“A quarter of retirees think life in retirement is worse than it was before they retired, according to a recent poll of 1,254 individuals age 50 and older by NPR, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Harvard School of Public Health. And 44% of retirees think their overall quality of life is about the same as it was while they were working. Only 29% of retirees say leaving the workforce made their life better. With that in mind, here are seven misconceptions about life in retirement.”
Just wondering how you can receive SS benefits when retiring from the military? Did you work a short time before going into military? We have a SIL in the army and was wondering if we could give him some hints.
1. Misconception 1: You will have less stress in retirement. 55% think it’ll be less, but only 39% actually think it is less.
2. Misconception 2: Travel and hobbies will fill your days. 59% expect increased travel, but only 34% do. 35% vacation the same. Hobby increase? 68% expect more time, 43% have same amount, and 20% say less.
3. Misconception 3: You will take better care of yourself. 48% say they will exercise more in retirement than now. 34% say less; 41% about the same. Expect to eat healthier? 52% stayed same, 12% eat less healthfully.
4. Misconception 4: Your health will hold up. 69% expect to maintain health; only 43% say it’s similar and 39% say it’s worse in retirement.
5. Misconcption 5: You can maintain your current standard of living. 62% expect it; 35% say it’s worse. 63% say you need an annual income of $50,000 or more to live comfortably in retirement. 1 in 5 survey respondents saying he or she will have trouble paying for health care.
6. Misconception 6: You'll improve your relationship with family members. 45% expect spouse and 40% family relationships to improve, but in reality only about 35% each said each improved w/61% say it stayed the same.
7. Retirement is a choice. 60% expect to retire at age 65 or later, often because of money/health benefits from their job, but also because they enjoy working and want to make a difference. But only about a quarter (26%) of retirees held on to their jobs that long. 58% say they left their jobs when expected/earlier.
So, again, what's your thoughts on it and are you yet retired?
YES we are very much better off each year however each situation is specific and here is ours:
1. I retired at age 42 after 20 years as an officer in the Navy and haven't worked a day since 1990 when I retired.
2. We were frugal until I retired and by the time I retired we had our home paid off.
3. DW was a stay at home mom and really raised our two sons properly and both got scholarships for college following their Dad's shoes and are currently both Naval Aviators with 10 and 15 years and will retire from the military.
4. Retiring from the military has protected my retirement pay from inflation and our total medical costs for the two of use are right at around $500 year. The medical side savings and security is very significant, but those will go up when we turn 65 and have to carry the additional MEDICARE insurance to qualify for TRICARE for life coverage.
5. From 1990 till 2010 when I turned 62 and starting getting SS we were able to maintain our lifestyle on just my retirement pay. Now my SS and this year the DW's SS added in has increased our income by over 75%.
We can now throw costs and budgeting out the window and buy the higher end and more expensive items and not look back and that makes retirement really, really nice and comforting.

RE: 62 or 65 for SS?

Well,I signed up last year at 61 and 10 months, knowing I would continue working for 2 more years until my wife turned 62 and signed up for hers. I do not trust the hands that play with my future retirement, as if it is a game. For 44 years now it was no game for me while paying into this system. This is OUR MONEY, not the Feds or anyone elses, to play with. I and DW are in local Gov. jobs with no or very little raises in the forseeable future. For me this means an annual raise of $6500.00 while I still work. Sure I am being penalized on any amount I earn over the $14,160, BUT at the same time, I continue paying in SS as long as I work. And when I do retire from work , the amount will be re-caculated and hopefully add a little bonus. We both may continue working until I'm 65 and can get Medicare. It's an individual decision for everyone. Sometimes you just gotta go with your gut feelings. Good luck.

RE: is this dealer RVSforless the real deal?

My wife and I were just at RVS for less this past Saturday. We did not see Karen, and Butch is in the hospital. We looked at several units DRV's and Heartland. If all goes well we will definitely buy from them, probably 2 years from now. We are not affiliated in any way, just looking for the best bang for the buck. Good luck in your search, but defiiately give them a call, and read the testimonials, from customers.

Carefree Fiesta Awning Parts

I could be wrong, but after searching I could not find replacement parts as in hardware (plastic)for my awning. Chattanooga Camping World has no parts except what would be considered accessories.Have looked on- line at PPL and other so called parts houses only to waste my time looking. It's on a Jayco but shouldn't have to have dealer order. The parts I need are the remote lock that goes to the release arm on the awning rail, and the storage lock on the awning arm.
All help appreciated.

RE: not happy with keystone

About the warranty being up when it's up, is different with different manufacturers. We have had a few problems with our 2007 Jayco Jayfeather, but I put the problem causes on the original selling dealer, NOT JAYCO. To make a long story short, Jayco through another dealer that I picked, did a complete roof replacement on our TT, 9 monhts out of the 2 year warranty. Now that's service with a smile.
