RE: Tire Question

Everybody has a tale to tell:
My six Michelin Tires were pushing almost 8 years old, only 29,000 miles. I had some cracking on just the front side walls. The other four were just about perfect. I really wanted to get one more year out of these, instead of paying about $3700 for new rubber. I was at my RV dealer when a an RV came in. It was a Tiffin 40 footer with extensive damage. One rear tire blew and took out the whole bottom of the refrigerator and hydrolic lines. The estimate was over $15K. What a mess.
Wouldof, couldof, shouldof, to late after the fact.
My new tires were installed last week...$3,368.00 Better safe than sorry.
PAM4
Well, do you think his insurance paid for the repairs. Insurance covers the risk we take. Otherwise, why carry insurance. If I have a blowout, I hope it totals the MH. Then, I can start anew.:S

Same system worked for me when I had a 1995 Holiday Rambler with a F-53 chassis.

RE: Toyo Tires

Did you try to call the number I gave you? That I just got 6 toyo's for $2300 thats $383ea Now mine are 245/27.R 22.5 Dont no if theres a big price difference or not? And that was installed.
??? What phone number??? and YES there can be a LOT difference in cost between a 245 and a 295-22.5 tire
Just wondering what the 27.R stands for. I have saw 80 series, 78 series, 70 series, etc. Never saw a 27 series. I have 275/70/R.22.5 on my MH.

RE: Another way to carry a unmounted spare tire

Well, how does he secure it? Tie raps, chains, weld it, super glue?
I get nothing from this post other than confusion.
One could always look under one's MH to see if a spare tire could be mount some place and then use one's imagination as to how one would mount the tire. Maybe duct tape? :h
Bye :)

RE: Tire Question

My 2005 Ambassador has date codes of 1004, and 24,000 miles. I feel as you, concerned about condition. I have decided to rotate the front to the inside rear and inside rear to front. Reason for this is they have to be dismounted from the wheels and I can inspect inside as well as out side. I will also inspect the outside rears when they are removed (probably will not dismount them but will look them over well). If they show signs of cracking or any sign of failure, I will replace them. I also have a TPMS that I use to monitor pressure and temp. A couple of hundred dollars spent for peace of mind is better that spending over $4,000 needlessly. IMHO.

RE: NADA Used RV/Boat Values

I wouldn't trust NADA as far as I could throw the book.
Well , what would you trust? A dealers opinion, or maybe the posters on this Forum. PPL get alot of reccomendations, but, lists nothing about the MH sold except the year, size, and model. It turns out, you can trust nobody but yourself. NADA is a guide. Makes no guarantees but at least gives us something to compare.

RE: TPMS question

I run my front tires at 90 lbs. I set my alarm at 80 lbs. I run my rear tires at 95 lbs. I set my alarm at 85 lbs. I have found a 15 to 20 lbs. increase on a very hot day. I set my high alarm at 25 lbs. above the number I run (115 front and 120 rear). I left my temp. at the default which I think is 156 deg. I have a TST system and have used it for 3 yrs.

RE: Tire pressure versus tire age

After weighing my 05 HR Ambassador and then going to the chart in my owners manual. I found 90 in front and 95 in rear is the reccomended pressures. It rides and handles great with these pressures.

RE: Check Tire Pressure Before Every Trip

I actually check my tires regularly with a gauge, but I thump the tires with my tire billy at every stop along the way.
I know the tire thump isn't accepted by the pros as an accurate means of pressure testing but if a tire is several pounds lower than the rest, you can detect a difference in the sound.
Everyone to what fits their needs, but, I check pressure and thump my tires every 8 seconds with my TPMS. I also keep up with the individual temps of each tire, including my toad.

RE: How Important Is Long Term Care Insurance

rgatijnet1 x2
I've seen nursing homes and I will not be a part of that. When I become a burden on my family, I will also "check out".
I hope both of you have the strength to load the gun and pull the trigger when the time comes :S

Lake Greenwood MH Resort

We just returned from 7 days stay at http://www.canecreekresort.com/ . The Resort is 1st. Class and the price is right. 1st. week is free. No pressure to purchase lots, but that is the purpose of the free offer. Lots of activities. Sunset boat ride, wine and cheese reception, pancake breakfast, amoung other things. They are Motorhomes only. Give them a call if in the area. Management is very friendly. I have no ties to the resort and did not purchase property. Just very satisfied with the facilities and the welcome.

RE: Can't move shift lever out of park.

Sounds like you are putting your MH in park before pushing in the emergency brake. If you do that, it puts pressure on the park gear in the trans, making it hard to get out of park. Try pressing the emergency brake, then put it in park. When you get ready to leave, put the trans. in drive, then release the emergency brake.

RE: for Marcus

This is for Marcus and is a concern to me and I bet others. That is the topic of unexpected problems in RV parks. I have been in a park were they did not tell anyone in their ads that they have high voltage wires running over head in the park and that within 100 yards was a big high voltage substation. I know studies on the effects of high voltage on humans is still out but if I would have known that there was high voltage wires near the campground I would have not stayed. Also, my wife has experience some very bad bullying in one park. How do we cope with these problems? I have been thing of setting up a web page to address these types of problems in RV parks. We have also experenced closed groups in parks (clicks)and bullying. We left one park because I was worrried about my wifes safty and lost 3 weeks of rent. I think we need any advocate for RVers safty in some of these unknown parks. I am not trying to cause problems but I bet this happens to a lot of RVers...THANK YOU
If you stay home, pull your shades, you may avoid all the problems you mentioned. I have been rving for 5 yrs. and have never occurred the things you listed. If I did, it did not bother me. If my wife encountered "Bully", I would handle it myself and very quickly. Manup and you will be okay. :h

RE: Insurance Non Renewal notice. Need advice

I am no expert but wonder why I have no insurance problems, so far, and spend far more time away from home than at home. I have filed 2 claims and both were taken care of right away and neither time was I any where near the state I am registered in....I have homes in 3 States and currently the DP isn't in any of them. But I have all my residence reqirements, drivers license, license plates, insurance, etc in one place.....I would suggest a good agent that knows how to get you through the fine print legally might help.
The reason you have "no" problems is you follow the guidelines stated in the policy. As long as you do not "lie" to the Insurance co. they cannot refuse to honor your claims. They have their guidelines outlined in their policy. If you abide by those guidelines, there is no reason to have a problem. When people start streaching those guidelines, they can expect problems with claims. If you have more money than the Insurance Co., then jump in and take you chances on getting a claim paid. Otherwise, stay within the quidelines and be in the 95% that has no problems.

RE: Breakdown X 2...

Jim, looks like something is finally going your way. If the warrenty puts you back whole, then you will be in the same shape as before the second failure. I think you have the right idea. Look for a MH you really want and trade. You will be happier because of the upgrade (slides and etc.) and you will be better off financially. You have gotten your money's worth out of this MH, time to move on to bigger and better.

RE: spare tire necessary

If you never have a flat, you don't need a spare. Just like the posters on here that don't need a TPMS, they never need it. I carry a spare mounted and inflated, a 12 ton jack, a 3/4 in. breaker bar, and a cheater bar. If I have a flat, I will call my road service, but all he needs to do is show up. I will furnish everything to put me back on the road if he does not have it. If he doesn't show, I will change it myself.

RE: It is Rattlesnake season, beware

Youngest Son lives in Valencia, Ca. Was walking his Boxer Friday afternoon in a doggie park. Dog was bit on the nose by a Rattler about 1 foot long. Antivenom was $900. IV and Vet. care totaled $1800. Besides the danger, the expense is scary.
