RE: Dometic 310 toilet

nadkaw1957,
On the toilet (threaded 1/2" male) there's a lip sticking out beyond the threads that measures at least 1/4" in length. If we're talking about the same steel, braided/flexible hose as meant for household fixtures, The 1/2" threaded female is shallow and has a black bushing in there. The lip that sticks out from the toilet's threaded male butts up agains the bushing and shy of cutting it (the lip that is) I don't see how you managed to get that on without modifying anything.
I'm actually addressing this exact problem this morning and trying to work out a game plan.
Hmmmm - mine didn't have a lip on it... different production day, I guess. Is there a way you can remove that fitting and put a 1/2" nipple in it? Good luck.. let us know what you came up with.

RE: Dometic 310 toilet

On the pex side the T's threaded male has a tapered 'lip' and a similar issue on the toilet side of things.
The male fitting on the toilet does taper a tiny bit, but I had no trouble getting the stainless steel female to go and and tighten nicely; no leaks whatsoever. I used the Sharbite because I wanted to keep the shutoff valve that was installed inline in the pex. My T's are all crimped, so I couldn't just attach the stainless steel line to a T.

RE: Dometic 310 toilet

The only p.i.t.a is the horizontal water inlet (my previous toilet was a Thetford IV with vertical, left side inlet) which is proving to be a major pain to adapt! I wish they had flex hose of some sort, much like a home toilet has, that could fit between the PEX 1/2 threads and toilet inlet.
I went to Home Depot, bought a SharkBite elbow with pex on one end and 1/2" male thread on the other. I also bought a 20" stainless steel hose with 1/2" female on both ends (right across the aisle). I cut off the existing pex line, and connected the elbow to it. I connected one end of the hose to the SharkBite elbow, made a loop with the hose and connected the other end to the toilet. It made the connection easy.

Dometic 310 toilet

Just got back from our first trip of the spring... with the new Dometic 310 toilet I installed over the winter. I gotta say, it's one of the best mods I've done (and I've done quite a few). The porcelain bowl stayed clean and the foot flush was so much nicer than the hand flush... I recommend it, even if your old toilet is still working.

RE: Screen Door Toilet Flush Handle

Just curious, does it interfere with opening the slide to be able to open the door? I ask because my wife and I will use that as a way to pass things through without opening the whole screen door if I need the pepper or salt or something like that.
Mine does block complete opening of the slide, but it still opens enough to pass small items like salt and pepper, etc. through.

RE: Screen Door Toilet Flush Handle

I bought one of these gadgets from some one a year or so ago... it had a metal rod which was bent to contact the handle. As I was walking down the plumbing aisle at Home Depot one day, I saw the flush handles and it was exactly what he had sent me... LOL.

RE: Gas springs on bed

How about some pics?
Here are some pics...
Left and right side spring installation

http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy27/nadkaw1957/Rightside.jpg
The lower bracket. You can see in the back the screw holes and wood where I originally reinforced the frame to put the bracket where the instructions indicated - 38 inches from the front of the bed. After they wouldn't hold up the bed, I moved the lower brackets to 29" from the front of the bed.
http://i774.photobucket.com/albums/yy27/nadkaw1957/LowerBracket-1.jpg
The top bracket. After you install the lower bracket and brace the bed panel so that the end is 42" off the floor, you simply swing up the spring and fasten the upper bracket to the bed panel where it touches. You can see the wood I installed to brace the 3/8" bed panel.

Gas springs on bed

I installed a set of gas springs on my under-bed storage yesterday; a project I've been considering for a year. I bought the 120 Bedlift Kit from Hatchlift. I had to make a few modifications to get it to work properly, including beefing up the bed frame along the hinge. I also installed additional framing where the lower bracket installs to the frame and a 1" X 4" along the length of the platform on which the mattress lays (It's only 3/8" plywood). You'll also want to take the installation instructions with a grain of salt. They say to install the lower bracket 38" from the front of the bed. When I did that, I found the springs wouldn't hold up the bed. I moved the lower brackets forward to 29" and they do a great job. You may have to experiment to get your installation correct. All in all, a great kit and reasonably priced, I think.

RE: Replacing toliet and need help to reroute water supply line

I just returned from a trip to Home Depot. I was told by the guy in their Plumbing section that the Sharkbite connectors won't work with the planst water lines used in RVs. He claimed to work on RVs and mobile homes and said the plastic lines from Indiana RV suppliers were "odd" sizes and won't be compatible with Sharkbite connectors. To be safe, I'll probably go with the plastic connectors mentioned above.
I don't know that I'd take his word for it. I've used Sharkbite fittings on several occasions now and if you have standard 1/2" pex line, they work just fine.

RE: Replacing toliet and need help to reroute water supply line

If you need to lengthen the run and your butyl pipe is the correct diameter, these SharkBite fittings make it an easy fix.
X2 - I just replaced my Thetford yesterday with a Dometic 310. I cut the pex line and installed a Sharkbite ell. Connected right up to the inlet on the new toilet with no problems.

RE: HEY we need a sticky for our TT pics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been on this forum for less than two years. In that length of time, I can't BEGIN to tell you how many times the Moderator has practically BEGGED posters to follow the rules regarding picture size. It's not difficult; the sizing method has also been posted MANY MANY times. I can't imagine the time he must spend correcting picture size in order to conform to the forum software standards in this forum. For that I thank him. If you don't like the rules or can't seem to follow them, you don't have to lurk here. If you enjoy reading the posts and viewing the photos, just follow the sizing rules. It seems pretty simple to me.

RE: Cool Mods

Here's a simple mod I designed to keep the gridle, cutting boards, and other assorted stuff organized in our camper's cupboard. We stored these things on edge against the cupboard wall, but they were always falling down and shifting around. This mod keeps them secured against the wall.
That's a great idea - I have the same problem with things I keep under the sink cabinet. Thanks!

RE: My Dometic/Sealand 310 toilet...

I don't know if it does or not, Kevin. I guess as much waster as it takes to clean the bowl... same as the Thetford... and I think it'll be easier to get clean than the plastic bowl.

RE: My Dometic/Sealand 310 toilet...

I had one of those in my old Cougar, it was comfortable. Make sure you use antifreeze when you winterize. If you just blow the waterlines dry, like I did the first year, water collects in the bottom of that control valve and I had to buy a new valve the following spring...Live and learn
Thanks - I always use antifreeze...

RE: State Parks

State and Federal parks and forests are great. Been camping in them for over 50 years and never had a problem. They may not have all of the extra things that the commerical facilities have but they do provide a more realistic camping experience.
I agree 100%... we only stay in state and regional parks. Everything we need is either there or we bring it with us. Many private campgrounds don't even allow campfires anymore... and that's a must for us.

RE: Vornado Heater switch help

Does the switch has a light in it? If so, it's probably a SPST. The two black wires are providing current flow and the white wire is providing the common for the light. Just a guess, not having seen the heater or the switch.

We use our extension on every trip simply because, as RoyB mentioned, the OEM cord won't reach to the generator in the truck bed.

RE: One of the best mods I've done yet...

Boy, everything that's old is new again!
That used to be pretty much standard in trailers etc.
All three older trailers we've owned ('59 Shasta; '65 Aloha; '78 Trillium) have that leg/hinge arrangement...
I agree - the system worked great and I don't know why they changed, except in cases of wrap around dinettes...

RE: One of the best mods I've done yet...

My TH has the table w/ two post that go into the sockets. Not only is the table wobbly, it breaks the cast sockets. Tomorrows mod will be to mount folding table legs to the table in hopes that that will steady it up.
For the price of two table legs, you can do this mod... and it will be much more stable, I think.
