RE: rv roadside assistance --coachnet or good sam RSA

Jim@HiTek posted this yesterday. Well, picked up my RV (Breakdown part 1) yesterday at 1pm. New head, new piston, valves, and associated work. They even fixed the sticking throttle for free. Engine sounded great. Drove 10 miles and returned to the shop to dump and refill radiator. Paid the $5734 bill and headed off. Shop owner beat his original estimate by $230...Northern Arizona Diesel. Headed north on US89 and got around 10 miles when the engine died on a long hill. Since the brakes and the parking brake require the engine to be running, and I travel alone, it was harrowing to coast back downhill over a mile to an area where it was just barely moving and I could drop the jacks to prevent rolling backwards. The emergency braking system in my case on this rig is an electric motor that operates the master cylinder...but I was worried about exhausting the battery. Jumped out and chocked the thing and called the shop. The owner came out 30 minutes later and wrenched the crank shaft...frozen solid. Engine seized up. Has to go back to the shop, but no driving it there this time. So, I call Coach-Net and give all the particulars of where I am, 28 miles south of Grey Mountain, one block from a cross street, on US-89 North of Flagstaff, exactly 10 miles, etc. Coach-Net then sends the truck 8 miles the wrong way. Just as that happened, my phone ran out of minutes. Two hours later, I flag down someone and borrow their phone, give CN all the particulars AGAIN! When the truck gets there he tells me that he'd talked to 3 people and only the last one gave him the correct info. A little disappointed with CN. So, he hooks up and just when he's starting to lift, his hydraulic system gives up. Two hours later he gives up and limps back to his shop to get another truck. He gets back at 8:30pm and off we go back to the NAD shop. I park on the street overnight and ponder my luck. Today, I have another question for you all...when should I give up on this beast? So far, $22,000 in repairs (mostly) and optional equipment or improvements. It's a 1994 with 160,000 miles. Most everything works, but it's worn of course. New paint job. It's all a crapshoot. Pick one and hope for the best. Whatever someone has now they will tell you is the best.

RE: Older Class A Gasser prices

I'm trying to advise my Mom on what to ask for her 1991 32' Dolphin. It cost about $60K new, has always been garaged and has about 60K miles on it. Overall in good condition for its age. The NADA guide puts the value about $5500, which sure seems low. I found one exactly like it for sale for $9400 at this link. Looking for input as to how real-world the NADA guidelines are. Has anyone had luck selling a "vintage" RV for much over the NADA price? Many RVers believe that NADA prices are actually too high but one of the nice things about craigslist and eBay is that you can sample the market and see whether you get any bites. I think I would start at that upper figure and if you get nothing take it off for a week or ten days and put it on at a lower price until you start getting calls. Or call that seller and see if they've had any interest. Take LOTS of photos... make a web page for them and put links to it in any ads. List any upgrades (Banks, tinted windows, new charger, inverters, etc.) and make sure that any prospective buyers know that they are getting more than just the stock coach. Photos of tires showing tread also help. Anything to make yours rise above the pack. Good luck. Craig My tires look brand new with under 5k miles on them and they are over 10 years old. I would rather see a pic of the date code stamped on the tire sidewall.

RE: RV pad

If you search this Forum for `RV pad' there are more than 80 entries already. Thanks DICK Ya know Mike being a smarta** to a Moderator is not the best approach. Out in my part of the west, we can put down 3"-4" of road base with 2"-3" of limestone on top and we are good to go. Travelon Well ya know Travelon as far as the using the search feature on the forum I did and most of it had to do with concrete and I'm not looking to pour and I really don't like reading through all the posts. Second if we all used the search might as well close down the forum because 99% of all questions and answers are already in there somewhere. Plus I have met two people on this forum from my hometown that I never would have met if I were just using the search feature.

RE: RV pad

If the ground below is already packed, 4 inches of 5/8 minus would be great. I watered mine drove the truck on it for 7-10 days before I put the MH on it. Wanted it to settle and pack. I think this reduced rutting and the amount I had to rake it later. I also used 2x12 lumber under the tires to distribute some weight. Is it ok to have the tires on the 2x12 wood. I would think the wood would hold moisture.

RV pad

I want to make a pad using some sort of crushed stone. Would 4-5 inches of stone be enough. Our yard has excellent drainage. Also is ok for the tires to sit on the stone for extended periods.

RE: Roof issue on Allegro: What the heck am I looking at?

Looks like someone has coated it with something at onetime or another, probably because there may have been a leak issue before. I would clean/preasurewash it and get all of the loose stuff off and recoat with something else. It will not be to long before you need a new roof unless you coat it with a good product. I would not pressure wash it. A new roof is in your immediate future.

RE: Tires for our RV

You did not forget who invented radial tire, did you?Contray to popular opinion Michelin did not invent the radial tire. The inventor of the radial tire was Arthur W Savage, a tire manufacturer in San Diego, Ca. He patented the tire in 1915. Gotta love Google.

RE: Frt Airbag in coil spring

They come out through the hole in the lower controll arm. Use a razor knife and vice grips to slice and pull out. Put the new bag in hot water to soften up. Roll it up real tight and use zip ties to hold together. Start to reinstall through the hole in lower controll arm and snip the zip ties as they get to face of controll arm. I just ordered Henderson springs for mine and installing them and ditching the air bags. Spring replacement video

RE: 2000 Bluebird Wanderlodge LXI

http://www.wanderlodgeownersgroup.com That site will be of FAR more help than you can imagine. If you have a question on Wanderlodges, they will have an answer. While there click on buy buy bluebird on the top of page. Randy has a few LXIs Listed for sale and most likely knows the history of the coach. If I were looking BB I would try real hard to purchase from him. He has a nice M380 listed also.

RE: what brand of new tires

I have Michelins on my current coach, had Hancook on my last one. When I change the tires on this coach, I will go back to Hancook. I put 47000 miles on my last coach and the Hancook tires still looked brand new. Hankooks

RE: 2002 Revolution : Worth it?

...Revolution is a fairly high end coach. It's was sold by Fleetwood but reportedly built at their American Coach assembly plant (it's now sold under the American Coach name) (i.e. it was basically the 'highest end' Fleetwood DP available - it's now the 'low end' model on American Coach line (think Toyota vs Lexus)). First, if you're interested, you can get brochures here http://www.americancoach.com/brochure/default.aspx?code=. . A 2002 Revolution is Fleetwood. They did not come under AC until 2010 or 2012. He said the Rev. was built on the same assembly line as the AC. That has been said on this forum for years. The same build quality only the Rev. is on a Freightliner chassis and the AC was on a Spartan.

RE: First start after sitting 2-1/2 years

Usually the date code is on the inside of the tire, although I've seen some that were mounted with it on the outside. It will be a three digit code, prior to year 2000 or a four digit code after 2000, in an oval box stamped on the side of the tire near the rim after the DOT....a code of 419 means it was mfg in the 41st week of 1999. After 2000 they changed it to four numbers. So, 4102 would be the 41st week of 2002, etc....did you change the oil? coolant? those are two things I would do immediately if you haven't yet....Dennis I know about the date code. But the expiration date?

RE: First start after sitting 2-1/2 years

. Also, I would look at those tires for dry rot and expiration dates. Blow-outs suck. We're would I look for a expiration date on my tires? :h

First start after sitting 2-1/2 years

Just finished changing all belts and hoses, cap and rotor, pcv valve and a new battery.Turned the key and it fired right up. So far the only problem I see is that the mileage was reading over 2 million miles. I took the neg. wire off starting battery for a few min. And re connected. Now I just have 6 or 7 dashes. Any ideas. I'm going to take it for ride tomorrow.

RE: My latest mileage improvements

You could do all that and more just by adding Air Tabs. Will also keep your rear view camara and toad clean at the same time.

RE: Frustrated with Hankook Tire Purchase

If more people would buy Hankock tires, the date codes would probably be less then a couple of months old. Just like anything else. It probably takes that long just to get them into the US and into warehouses.
