RE: Carryout & Vuqube Security

You know, in all the years I've been here on rv.net and the thousands of posts I've read....I don't think that I have ever heard/read that someone's sat dish (of any kind) has been stolen. Plus in all of my many, many years of travel and the many hundreds of rv parks, campgrounds, and walmarts that I've stayed at, I've never heard of this happening. I've also attended hundreds of rv shows and not once have I ever seen/heard of someone trying to sell a used vue cube or tailgater... Maybe all this worrying about sat dish security is for naught. RE: Time between Death Vallley and Yosemite ????

I would do DV in late March. Still cool and maybe some of the famous DV flowers will be in bloom (depends on how much rain in the winter). From there, you can go to the coast and do Hwy's 101 and 1 (Pismo, Hearst Castle, etc) or you can go from DV up Hwy 395 to Lone Pine (site of hundreds of movies..mostly westerns), Big Pine (Bristol-cone Pines - oldest living things on earth), Bishop (annual Mule Festival, Mammoth Lakes/Mtn, lake Tahoe, Reno and then over to Gold Country (Columbia..Hwy 49.. ect) and then to Yosemite. Most of the passes from the Eastern Sierra to the Western Sierra open in early to mid May, but I-80 is always open and hwy 50 is open most of the time. Happy travels.. Ron

RE: Bedroom Slide Won't Open

Good points. I would love it if I could teach them to be taut (sorry Ron), but they are all Power Gear electric with a drive shaft and rollers. Still looking around. Well, I guess all my colorful language I used when adjusting them was all for naut! ;) Ron

RE: Hensley, First Trip Report

It is so hard to convince someone who has never pulled a TT with a Hensley exactly how much better it is over conventional friction type WD units. Almost to a person, they will insist that their Dual Cam or Equal-i-zer is comparable and will do the job just as good and the extra $$ is not worth the difference. Those of us who have (and do) however, congratulate you on your wisdom to purchase, install, and use the ultimate hitch for the best pulling experience you'll ever be able to have....not to mention the high level of safety that comes with it. Good for you. Ron

RE: Helpful vendors or scam artists?

I can't remember if it was in Beaver or Scipio, but the same scam situation happened to me in 2010 while on our way to SLC. Guy came out in a golf cart, thought he was a service station employee and didn't pay any attention to him. While pumping fuel, he walked around the front of the mh and said Hi...did you know you have a bad right front tire? Of course I asked him to show me and he pointed to a dark spot on the tread and told me that the tread was separating from the steel belts and that he owned a tire shop across the street and would be happy to install a new tire for me. Looked closer and noticed that the dark spot was just a smudge where he had rubbed his thumb across. I got up close to him and asked him if he thought his mother was proud of him and that he ought to be ashamed of himself trying to take advantage of senior folk. He got back on his cart and left. I immediately went inside the station and reported the incident. I'm still driving on that same tire 15,000 miles later. Obviously, these nogoodfornothings do make a living from this... Just ask LTalbot. Ron

RE: California Registration Cost?

Be aware that in CA, all pickups are registered commercial Actually you can register it as a "passenger vehicle" if you don't EVER put anything in the bed. Seen that law broken many times :B IIRC they issue a digit followed by Alpha the remainder being digits on the plate. Mine cost about 5x in Cali what it does in Idaho. I have the bigger GVWR and unladen weight penalization Cali hands out though. From what I've read lately it ain't getting any better in the Golden State :RA pickup registered as a passenger car would be issued a regular passenger car plate, which do have different nomenclature than pickup and cargo van plates. If caught driving the passenger plated pickup without a camper on it, be ready to pay the fine, plus cost to re-register the truck as a pickup. As mentioned previously, the way around this is to get personalized plates. Of course, those have an additional fee attached to them that is included into the annual registration fees so the cost difference may not be productive. I've lived in California my entire life (well, almost) and have always had a pickup and have always put a camper shell on it to be eligible for the passenger car plates. I typically keep my pickups for many, many years and have also had personalized plates. So in my case, the cost difference has been in my favor. Ron

RE: Bedroom Slide Won't Open

Even if electric... can also be either rack and pinion or cable. Our bedroom slide is cable and can become stretched over time and usage. Usually requires an small adjustment to keep them taught. Ron

RE: over heated & Broke down, Now in Prescott Az

So very sorry for your troubles... but I gotta ask. Weren't you paying attention to your temp gauge? Overheating an engine is just like running outta fuel....there's just no excuse for it. Again, very sorry this happened to you. Hope all turns out well for you. Ron

RE: Fuel Price Gouging

I can't believe all you guys are moaning and groaning about fuel prices. You really want to be gouged, come to California. I filled up in Las Vegas yesterday at Costco for 3.68...came across the state line into California and the price was 4.27. So, excuse me if I don't feel sorry for ya. Ron

RE: accidentally plugged in 240v to 120v camper....Help!!!

Sorry for your troubles... but for some reason, you're not answering the most important question. How in the world could you plug in a 120 volt connector to a 240 v socket??? It just can't be done. Your trailer is probably a 30amp (three prong connector) and a 50 amp (probably what you are calling 240v but is actually two 120v legs) is a four prong socket. Those two just won't mate up!! Please tell us how this happened. Ron

RE: dishes vs paper plates

WE have both, but normally use paper. Cuts down on fresh water usage.

RE: Flat tire

Same with my Safari...no spare..no place to put one. We have a good friend with a Tiffin Phaeton..I'll have to ask him if he has a spare. To the OP. I feel your pain, but as mentioned: you really have to read the agreement very closely to know exactly what is covered and what is not. Obviously, you didn't do this. Ron

RE: Towing

Didn't you just buy a new 5'er last January? And now you're getting another? Wow... didn't like the first one? As others have said, the pin weight is just too much for the 2500. Think 3500. Ron

RE: Unhook or not

The thing I hate about lubing the ball and WD bars is that when disconnected, you have this greasy ball and bar ends sticking out that is just waiting for someone to come by so that they can reach out and rub that black dirty grease all over you leg. When we stopped just for the night, I would leave everything hooked up...but I would run the electric tongue jack down and slightly take some of the weight off of the hitch. I would also unplug the elect umbilical cord. Ron

RE: 2009 Tundra Double Cab towing question

My advice is to go to Tundra Solutions and post your questions there. You will get answers from those who actually have your exact truck. Best place to get any info on a Tundra. Hope this helps Ron

RE: Leaving home for long time

We have lots of trees and shrubs and are on an automatic drip system, so we can't turn our water off but we do turn off the water heaters. I suggest you also shut off the water to each of your toilets. As a poster mentioned above, toilet tanks sometimes crack for no reason (happened to us two weeks ago - thankfully we were home). Also, shut off the water to your washer - those hoses can blow. Nothing worse than coming home to a flooded house... Good info. Also the trick of putting oil in the P-traps is an interesting idea. When water evaporates in the traps, you have a direct line to the sewer/septic tank....not good. However, it would take quite a bit of oil to fill the traps in the toilets. Not sure if I would want that much oil going down my sewer pipes and into my septic tank. Our drip system is quite extensive and and taps off the house water system at several places. To re-do this system so that the water supply for the drip system comes off the house water supply prior to the shut-off valve would be quite a job....but doable. I'll have to look into that.

RE: Camping World NEVER again (denver)

Lanerd, I only had one issue and I did contact Marcus this past Saturday about that issue and he did resolve it above and beyond my expectations. I just got off the phone with the Regional Manager for my area and I am very happy with the results received from this issue which Marcus offered to resolve. I have no other issues with Camping World; realize that everyone makes mistakes, and am willing to keep my business with Camping World. I am now a more than satisfied Camping World patron/customer. Marcus, his Regional Manager; Jason, and Jason's Business Manager, all worked out a great solution for me; one that I can financially handle and that exceeded my expectations. There were no short cuts and I am not getting something for nothing, but what I have received is exceptional customer care and I am very pleased! Larry Larry, that is fantastic. It's really great to hear that CW stands behind their promises. Thanks so much for coming back and letting the rest of us know how it turned out. And thank you Marcus for sticking with Larry and working out his problems to his satisfaction. Ron

RE: What do you do?

It's not always easy for the merging vehicle to find a hole to pull into when the line of cars in the right lane won't slow down a little to make a hole. I find that the idiots are also in the right lane! It is a dilemma however as you are typically dammed if you do and dammed if you don't. If a three or more lane highway, I will typically camp out in the #2 lane and try to not go too slow. If, however, I'm in the #1 lane (right lane) and there are lots of on-ramps, I will slow down right before the on-ramp to open a hole for the merging traffic. Many times, the merging vehicle isn't paying too close attention, I will give him a little blast of the air horns to wake him up. Just do the best you can and be as courteous as you can. Remember, the on-ramp vehicle will be running out of room very quickly and really needs to get in your lane. Help him out. Ron

RE: Camping World NEVER again (denver)

To the best of my knowledge I think Camping World is located in 33 states, and they deal with literally millions of customers; I for one will cut them some slack. Dealing with the public on a daily basis is not easy. Each person wants individualized personalized efficient and effective care. The saying goes to err is human but to forgive is divine. Everything and everyone has room for improvement, and having a high level representative here online at this website, if nothing more, does give and opportunity to vent; regardless whether that venting is justified or not. The representative/CEO here online seems willing to take the heat, and do something about it if more than just a laundry list of perceived problems are presented. I commend him for that. This guy does not have to make himself available at all; but he does! If I remember correctly, you had two previous CW problems that Marcus asked you personally to contact him to help resolve them. I for one, and I'm sure others, would like to know if he did indeed satisfy your dilemma. Marcus mentioned above that he ask people to contact him and no one does...did you? Just curious. Ron
