RE: ~Post your campsite photos here~

To holyman: check rvparkreviews.com for info on CGs. Also you can post an inquiry (like the one you posted here) in the RV Parks etc. forum here - just start a new topic. This thread is primarily for pictures of campsites. Thanks, and good luck finding what you need!

For a free site with volunteer admins, we can't necessarily expect the latest & greatest in technology. Thanks for reposting the picture-post guidelines, LAdams!

RE: Salt Lake City

KOA x 4. Not ideal, but well-located, easy to reach from interstates, open all year. There's construction making traffic worse along North Temple (main entrance to the CG) but there's a side entrance that avoids the construction, which works very well. Ditto on General Conference crowds. If you're planning to be there that weekend, make reservations NOW.

RE: Camping in the Florida Panhandle?

Inland, Blackwater River SP. Gorgeous place, and the sites are to die for - spacious, level, FHU, and inexpensive.

RE: Where or where should we all go...

All good suggestions and good questions. A shorter version of one of travel4family's ideas is Michigan - we did one trip where we camped along (or near) each of the Great Lakes that surrounds the state. Depending on your family's interests, there are plenty of things to do - Henry Ford Museum/Greenfield Village near Ypsilanti are worth at least a day, and of course there are lots of beaches and great scenery along the lakes. Some of the "inland" lakes - like Higgins Lake - make nice places for a "beach" vacation with family, as many of Michigan's lakes are sandy-bottomed, nice & clear. State parks in MI are nice, but there are private CGs with activities, etc. in many spots too. Definitely recommend Mackinac Island (plan on a full day trip there)! Fun for adults & kids alike - a trip back in time.

RE: short wheel base towing

Equal-i-zer makes a good hitch. You'll need to make sure you get the right weight rating - too little and it won't do any good, too much and you risk damaging the trailer frame. So you'll need to know the GVWR of the trailer. Most weight-distributing hitches make noise when you're turning, as they depend on some kind of friction for the sway control function - just FYI. We've used this brand of hitch with our various TT-TV combinations: SUV + hybrid trailer, truck + hybrid, truck + current (34') TT.
19' trailer for that size wheelbase should be ok, as long as you're equipped with the right kind of hitch.

RE: Wisconsin Dells without breaking the bank?

Rocky Arbor is nice, but is subject to NOISE from the interstate. Just FYI - otherwise not a bad lower-cost option for the Dells.

RE: Mount Rushmore

Camp closer! Staying up in the Black Hills is great. IMO the best CG there is Rafter J Bar Ranch - reserve in the Island section for best sites, but they have plenty of others your rig would fit in. There is one highway in the Hills you need to avoid with the rig, but it's not what you'd need to get to the Rafter.
For the Badlands, I recommend the KOA there (outside of Interior, SD). Nice clean CG, shady (a premium in that area) and very quiet - unless it's packed with motorcyclists. (It wasn't when we stayed there.)

RE: 1s time to New England area

If you like historic areas, consider camping in the outer suburbs of Boston and visiting the city via commuter rail. Two good CGs (one I can personally vouch for): Minuteman in Lexington, and Normandy Farms in Foxboro. I believe both are not too far from commuter rail/the "T" system, the best way to visit the city. Boston is a very walkable city, once in it, and the T can get you between points of interest there. One advantage of Normandy Farms is that it's also not far from Plymouth - Plimoth Colony is a must-see, IMO. Plan on a full day there, and at least one full day in Boston.
Another good area to visit is Mystic Seaport in CT. Another full day at the open air/living museum! Several CGs nearby; none come up to the standards of Normandy Farms, but the Mystic KOA is decent enough.

RE: Very Surprised at RV show

Interesting. Hybrids have been much more in evidence in the Midwest than the west, in our experience. Jayco is a VERY popular brand in Wisconsin; perhaps some of the other companies making hybrids weren't represented because area dealers just haven't affiliated with those brands.

RE: kearney nebraskacampgrounds

Stayed at Ft Kearney SP a few years ago. If you don't have a really big rig, it could be a good choice, but remember you would need to pay an entrance fee (this applies to all NE SPs) in addition to the camping fee. If you're staying several nights, and like the SP atmosphere over private CGs, it would probably be worth it; not so much for just one night, IMO. We were interested in the state historic park, a few miles away, so it was a good choice for us. The CG is accessed by a nice country road, but you can hear the interstate from many of the sites. Fairly well-spaced sites; bathhouses nothing to write home about but ok.

RE: Ohio to Florida and anywhere inbetween

New England or the U.P. might work well for you too. Beaches in both places (though rockier than you might be envisioning.) Some of the shoreside SPs in the UP are great!

RE: Denver area state parks

Thanks, folks! From the parks' websites, it looked like Chatfield is definitely more scenic; my reservation would be the haul from there to get heading north on I-25 - or relative difficulty getting into the city to visit friends. Thoughts?

Denver area state parks

Planning a trip for this summer, a few days of which we'd like to spend in the Denver area to visit friends. We generally enjoy state parks, and have read good reviews of both Cherry Creek and Chatfield, but wonder which might be better. We will have the rig in our sig pic (TT is 34' long) and will want hookups. We'll probably be arriving via I-70 from Kansas, and will be heading up I-25 to Cheyenne after our Denver stay. Most likely we'll be staying in the area during the week, rather than over a weekend, if that makes any difference.
Thoughts, opinions and route suggestions welcome! Thanks!

RE: planning trip to wymoning any tips

If time is no object, I'd recommend spending 8-10 days in Yellowstone & the Tetons combined, or more if you enjoy lots of hiking. Then I'd recommend going on up north to Glacier NP. Seems that park is just a bit far for most folks to get to - including us (many times to Yellowstone, but so far never have been to Glacier.) Just a thought. (Glacier's in Montana, not Wyoming, but by western standards, it's almost in the same neighborhood.) :)

RE: Deer avoidance system ?

Friends have had the anti-deer "whistles" mounted on their front bumper for years. They've hit deer at least twice since they added them. Guess they don't work too well.
