RE: awning repair

Disassemble the awning vinyl from the spool. Take it to your local tent and awning repair shop. They can remove the bad area and sew a new piece of vinyl, usually sun resistant that duplicates the portion that was removed. Reinstall and tension up and you are ready to go. The alternative is to purchase a new vinyl only from an RV store and do the same type of install. Usually more expensive.

RE: insurance for truck and trailer/who

Just dropped National Interstate. Had them thru FMCA.Never had a claim with them but they would raise rates substantially every couple of years. No explanation offered. I only had the motor home with them.
In the meantime State Farm was killing me on the rate for the 08 Jeep Liberty toad,so I went shopping for insurance and was able to insure the motor home and the toad both with GMAC thru Good Sam and also FMCA for way less than what I was paying for the motor home alone with National Interstate. So far it has been a good move with substantial savings. We'll see as time goes by how good a move this was.

RE: power in MH while traveling

Note, He is reporting that there is no 120 volt power at the outlets while underway. Assuming ignition key on and engine running. This coach might have the feature that kills the TV 120 volt outlet when the engine is running. Therefore other outlets could possibly be wired to and/or thru the front TV outlet killing more than just the TV.

RE: Breakfast near Flagstaff

You won't be taking I 17 past Flagstaff as it ends where it joins I 40. Then are you going East,West,or North? The length and size of your outfit would be helpful as well. Cracker barrel can be accessed from exit 198 off of 40. That is your best bet.

RE: Take over payments

There is a rental place by my house that offers the take over payments. That's why I'm asking. If not, I will buy a used one. I have no debt but had a bk a few years back that's why
there is no such thing as "take over" payments. Its a cheap suit used car sales tactic.
Wrong. All you need is an assumable loan and your own decent credit. The problem being that there are not that many assumable loans out there today.

RE: Camping World on verge of explosive growth

What I see in the whole Good Sam/Camping World system is a lot of good positive forward progress. It is a far cry from the mess that many of us left by quitting Good Sam and all of the other Affinity Group Tripe that we were being bombarded with especially thru the mail. It seems that there has been some new blood inserted into some areas and with LeMonis guidance some good things are appearing.
More power to him.

RE: packrats attack

Check all of your heating and cooling ducts as rodents will strip the canvas type material off of them too. Check all areas at floor level that are not readily accessible such as thru a door of some kind. Some of these places you will need a light and a mirror to see into them.Like under the shower/bath pan. These unwanted guests will pack remote less accessible areas with all manner of junk from gum wrappers to plastic spoons..
It sounds to me that you may have picked these rodents up at another location and they travelled with you to your present stop.
I say that because they usually don't do what you have described overnight.
Regardless of the type of unit you have you must find and secure every opening, slit, crack, space etc of anykind. Use steel wool and chink up every opening you can find. Rodents will not attack steel wool. Keep setting traps of various types. I know the sticky/gummy types work great especially with a light smear of peanut butter in the center.

RE: Getting the sewer hose 35' to septic tank

Go to your local hardware and purchase enough 3" plastic pipe and fittings and put that together with the proper fittings (elboe, threaded couplings an rv hose coupling on one end, etc, etc) and use the hard pipe setup. Once it is setup it will stay put better than a flexible hose. When done either cap off each end after flushing or unscrew the joint(s)and put it away out of site.

RE: Dumping my tanks at home?

Everybody who has access to something like you do uses it to dump into. Go for it. An extra 30-50 gallons won't even be noticed at the waste water plant. Most cities offer dumps at convenient spots around their city in hopes they will be used rather than the ground in surrounding areas.

RE: Battery Blow up

I have to go along with the shorted diagnosis. Probably 1 cell shorted and that is enough to blow the battery when the charge is steadily put to it. The H2 builds up and it goes. Very dangerous.

RE: budget cuts and public lands

I can't believe all the complaining. If you check with the Forest Service they will all tell you that they are at 100%Max efficiency and there is just simply nothing they can realistically cut to become more efficient.
When in reality the F.S. is one of the biggest money wasters in the federal government outside of congress. They have increased fees, raised existing fees and still cry poor mouth. It is high time they were required to do more with less. Won't hurt them at all.
A few good layoffs with some of those bureaucrats required to go out and get a real job would go a long way toward balancing budgets.
The forests will by and large be fine. The public are not the ecological rapists the F.S. would like to make them out to be.
The same thing applies to those clowns at the B.L.M. A good house cleaning and a round of budget cuts would help the cause there as well. Both of those organizations and many others have excess personell looking for something to do so they develope their cockamamie ideas and do their best to foist them off on the public.
We need to wake up and put a stop to their nonsense. Jack.

RE: Campground Etiquette

One nice thing about the BLM camping areas around Quartzsite is that Rules are few. Unfortunately someone will run across a grumpy
know it all who is opposed to anyone else having a good time and taking advantage of the few and far between rules in that area. When we hear from one of those types and they swear they'll never be back it's music to our ears. One of the beauties of camping in the Quartzsite area is everyone does their thing from running their generator to congregating in one area with their respective groups to camping by themselves. That is just the way things have evolved there.
But, Never fear you grumps have choices. You know what they are and they don't include confrontation.

RE: Buying an RV that has been full timed for 3 years

It is good to use a RV as we all know that just sitting aids deterioration. BUT, And it's a big BUTT. You don't want one that was lived in under any circumstances (it's worn out)especially after 3 years.

RE: advice for a new onan generator

You didn't mention the hours on the unit but being in a 98 model coach try this. Be sure the slip rings are clean and the brushes are free to move in the brush boxes. You may have a brush standing off of a slip ring creating the problem you are describing. Since you say it is out of the coach it will make it all the easier to check. A 5KW Onan is to good a unit to throw in the towel on without a good complete diagnosis. Jack.

RE: How to make a small septic tank.

Go down to your local fuel and oil jobber and purchase 2 55 gal.
steel drums. Perforate them generously with anything from a sharp
pick to a 1" hole saw. Fit them out on the top with 3"-4" plastic
Pipe firmly attached to the drums. Makt the same arrangement on the side of each drum near the top so the drums can be connected with a 3"-4" plastic section of pipe. Length to be determined by you and as needed. Bury the drums so the soil covers the tops. Cut off the vertical inlet pipes to suit your needs close to the ground and install threaded caps. No more often than what you are going to use this system a field leach line would probably be optional. This would not be a high volumn system with no leach line (s).
This is a private project on private property and mums the word.
I would purchase materials out of town. The fewer who know about the job the better. Once you have entered the bureaucratic nightmare of government on something like this they will jerk you around until you won't know whether you were punched or bored.
I have several of these systems in service at various locations, some as old as 22 years old up to and including1 less than a year old. This is what is known as the old Hill Billy Dump and they work well for light usage. I love it everytime this subject comes up and all screamers come out of the woodwork. Go for it.

Mine did not come with a spare and I don't carry one because I couldn't change a tire due to the size and weight. So far I have had
remarkable service from my tires with only 1 call for a flat. Was back on the road within an hour.
