I hate to use any type of yummy bait for critters, the bait will attract ant's and other insects.
I like the live traps with rat & mouse poison bait in it. the rat bait doesn't attract insects but the mice will go into the trap after it.
I have a few sorta like these.
I don't care about the humane aspect, there gonna die anyway!

after sitting that long unused you may have to "flash" the generator.
the generator needs a small amount of power to "excite" the field, after sitting this long that power is probably not there.
google a manual for your generator to find how to do this.

a 15 watt panel can generate enough power to keep a fence charger battery topped up.
a 15 watt panel can keep a small battery charged for 12v lighting in an unwired shed.
a 15 watt panel can keep my tractor battery up when I don't use the tractor.
a 15 watt panel can keep the battery on a 12v motion light charged. etc. etc.
I think this is worthwhile power generation. it is a small panel and it may not be for you but that doesn't mean it's not worthwhile or have value for anybody!

I think if you find a floor plan you like you will find the same or almost the same floor plan from several other manufactures.
if you look here you can shop floor plans from many makers.
and you, being from the Midwest may be able to take advantage of their prices?

thanks for the link. they have a small fold up table for $30 that would work for now and I think it would be nice to keep for anytime we might need a small table in the future.
