RE: whats your career?

Out of trade school I worked for a company that performed monthly, annual and acceptance testing on high voltage switchgear, control circuits and cabling then I worked for a petro chemical company as an instrument technician for thirteen years at which point I moved into their process analyzer group for the remaining two years. The last four years I have worked for a major oil service company as an analyzer technician at the second oldest refinery in the US and recently got transferred back to Texas working in a refinery in Houston.

RE: financing new rv

Depends on the scoring system they use. A score of 750 sounds great but there are several different systems out there. A FICO of 750 and you can pretty much write your own ticket but a VantageScore of 750 will probably get you a no on an RV finance. ClarkHoward.com talks about the different types of scores and how they work. Most people think there is one scoring system but that's simply not the case.

RE: NICE RV Park/Campground Near Downtown San Antonio

Stayed at the KOA. Nice park and on the bus route although we drove to the Riverwalk and parked at the RiverCenter Mall. Plan to stay there again sometime this year

RE: Another Fort Wilderness Question?

According to the map that dieharder posted Loops 100 and 700 are the closest but keep in mind that Disney runs bus service throughout Fort Wilderness that's for the park only then there is a transfer station at the front of the park for other bus service to other Disney parks/hotels/shopping and a transfer station at the back of the park where the boat dock is for water taxi service to Magic Kingdom.

RE: The problem with RVing

CaveManCharlie. What you hear on the news is the worst of the worst. Consider how many hundreds of thousands fly everyday. The percentage is incredibly low. For nearly the last four years I was flying four one ways per month between Houston and Columbus Ohio. Went through security about 195 times and was only patted down twice. Once because I flentched while the back scatter machine was shooting me and the other time, well I don't really know, probably looked shady to them.
How I did it was easy. I carried a back pack and everything and I mean everything was in it. Nothing on my person except clothes. In my backpack was big headphones, iPad, phone, camera then other uninteresting stuff. Never had to take any of that stuff out. I carried a portable DVD player for awhile and they wanted that in a separate bin, same with actual laptops. I am guessing it's not the computer but the DVD drive. Anyways it's not as bad as the news makes it out to be, don't get me wrong you do hear some sad stories about how a baby or old vet in a wheel chair was treated and that's just dead wrong but it's small in the grand scheme of it all.

RE: South Bass Island / Put In Bay Ohio State Park - No Power?

Have you asked what it's gonna cost to ferry your rig there and back? My 39' fiber with truck and four people was going to be about $180 round trip if I remember right. It was expensive but still much cheaper than renting a hotel on the island.

RE: WOW ! 30 story hotel built in 15 days

One of the hotels on the San Antonio Riverwalk was built like that in the late 1960's. I think it was linger than fifteen days but the rooms were trucked in and stacked then hooked up.

RE: Winegard Carry Out antenna

My Dish receiver goes to sleep so many hours after the channel was changed last. When it does I can then hear the Carryout toggle between satellites. I assumed it was because the Dish receiver was no longer on and telling the Carryout what to do. Never really worried or thought about because it works normal once the Dish receiver is turned back on.

RE: Hubby's TDI Jetta's mileage

I had a 2002 VW Jetti TDI and I can tell you how much it cost if you DON"T change the belt. Lets just say its far far far cheaper to change it. I am about to buy another either Jetta or Passat and have been told by the salesman, which I never believe, but he said they use a chain now. I'm trying to find out for sure.

RE: Onan 5500 Generator

Mile High is spot on. If its factory installed it should be separated like he said but you will want to find out. My twenty amp breaker tripped a few times so when I'm on genny power I run the fridge and hot water on propane. You probably don't have to do both but its just to easy

RE: Tandem Tow Dolly

Tandem Tow Dolly
One of the options was to add electric brakes for $495. Thats in addition to the price of the standard axle you already paid for. Just wondering if having one built at a local fab/trailer shop would be any cheaper or give you a trailer that is built to your needs, like kayak rack, cooler storage and so on.

Tandem Tow Dolly

Priced out a tandem tow dolly with a few options and it's pushing $7000 plus tax and shipping. Looks like a glorified low boy with some modifications. Any body have one built? Save any money? I had a custom 5X10 made last year with electric brakes and aluminum wheels and it was $1400. I can't see how this would be more than $3-4 grand. Thoughts?

RE: 7k lb brakes on 6k lb axles, anyone?

If you plan to upgrade, have you considered disc brakes? I have 7k axles and want to put 8k with disc brakes. I know some have done that but I don't have a clue where to start however from what I understand, the disc brakes will give you a huge increase in braking power over drums.

RE: BP's new rebate program

Krogers sells all sorts of gift cards to restaurants, stores and Southwest Airlines. Since I fly alot I buy the Southwest Cards as well as several other restaurant cards and I pay for them with a credit card that offers a rebate. Krogers will then double and in some cases triple the points and will allow you to receive up to $1.00 off per gallon of gas so I routinely pay $2.60 or so for gas plus I get points on my credit card to boot.

RE: Pay at pump question

Have to do that often in my truck. Will put in $75 then run the same card to top it off with another $10 or so. To be honest the stores need to start per authorizing the cards for between $100-125.
