RE: Door Knob

You can go here 1996 Parts Fische and download the parts list and diagrams for your model RV. Then at least you'll have the specific Winnebago part # to help you in your search for a match.

A&E Door Awning Need Repair Advice

I have an A&E Oasis Elite power door awning (2004 vintage) that I'm going to have to repair and looking for advice. Haven't been able to find a similar problem on any forum. When opening, only one arm extends. The other just sits there, though I can push it manually to extend the awning. However, when closing, both arms work fine and the awning closes properly. I'm thinking some sort of gear problem or similiar. From what I've read, I'll have to extend the awning, remove 2 screws at the top, and perhaps drill out several rivets to remove the awning from the RV. After that, any ideas on what to look for? Thanks.

RE: Access to book marked sites.

Something to try, may or may not help... I've seen similar to this caused by a cache "feature" in IE9. Go into "Tools", "Internet Options", "General" tab, "Browsing History" section and click the "Settings" button. Make sure the first selection "Check for newer versions of Stored Pages" is set to "Every time I visit the web page" to force a reload of the pages (and any others) after you browse.

RE: ramd mcnally 7710 setup

There was a problem with the desktop install software in the earlier shipments, wrong instructions depending on if you were using a PC or Mac. Go to the RM site and download the latest desktop version for your platform and try it again. Has often solved registration issues.

RE: Windshield Cleaners

A couple of times a year, if it gets real dirty I wash then dry it then scrub it with 0000 steel wool then use wash-n dry cleaner/polish. Gets rid of all spots and grime and help it stay clean longer. +1 on the 4-0 steel wool and then a double coat of RainX. Video

RE: Safety chains on a tow dolly

My Roadmaster is like many others... has the straps for the wheels but also two chains on the dolly to "safety" the car. Not the same as the chains which are backup for the hitch (RV to Dolly.) Fastens with heavy-duty steel caribeners.

RE: RVND Woodalls update

For those interestd, here's the release notes of the latest upgrade... lots of stuff. Release notes for RVND RC3 11.98.2310 (To see current release number, Select Preferences, About) Note: We continue to thank all of you who have submitted feedback using the “Tell Rand” feature. Many of the improvements noted below were due to your feedback. Thanks too, to all of our driver beta testers for all their work. · Woodall’s campground ratings have been added. This is for commercial campgrounds only, and includes the ability to search by amenity such as WiFi or type of hookup, as well as Woodall’s ratings. · Routing has been refined for RV classes. · Custom POI Import has now been enhanced. You can download POI lists from places like POIFactory.com, and load them to your unit. You can then select how you want to see them and be told about them. There are 2 types - “Alerts”, and “General POI’s”. Alerts are for things like Red Light Cameras - something you want to be alerted about directly along your route. General POI’s are for items you want to be told about that could be 10 miles away from you, but are interesting, such as Railroad Museums, if that is what you downloaded. These are loaded using the Dock. · A Mute button will now appear on the map screen whenever the unit is speaking. Touching this will mute the unit. The speaker icon will continue to appear whenever there is a new instruction, and can be tapped to enable voice again. A flashing icon will appear in the upper right of all screens as a reminder that the RVND is muted. · When a new route is calculated, the route options (eg., Fastest, Freeway, etc), are now shown in text and icons during calculation as a reminder or what route options are being used. · The route line is now wider for easier glancibility and the color can be changed in Preferences. · Route recalculation when off route is now much faster. · The Virtual Dashboard (green screen when hitting the current speed icon) now shows speeds in tenths. · The “Busy” status icon has been adjusted to show busy status more accurately. · Altitude (term changed to Elevation based on feedback) is now available as a choice from the upper right ETA button on the map screen. · The warning distance to a freeway junction has been increased from 1,000 meters to 1,500 meters per driver feedback. · You can now edit the names in the address book instead of having to replace them. · Battery status now shows a “lightning bolt” when the unit is plugged in. · Your zoom level setting is now retained more consistently. For example, finding a POI along your route will not reset your desired zoom level. This applies only when your zoom is set to “Manual”. · Parking and Rest Area icons have been separated, so that if the item is Wal-Mart parking, the Wal-Mart icon will appear instead of Rest Area. · Saving a location that is more than ¼ mile off a road will now save the actual lat/long position, instead of the nearest road. · You can now save the current Multi-Stop trip to another name for future use. · “Other Category” POI’s can now be selectively displayed on the map. In other words, you can turn off map display for all icons except Post Offices if you wish. Map icon without pushpin means to not display. Note: There are some categories for which map display selection will be enabled in a future release. · The TellRand feature has been made easier to use. You no longer have to type in the issue/suggestion, you can select from a list, and just hit enter, in most cases. Current values of some items will now appear, such as current speed rounded to the nearest 5. · Quick stop, Walmart now has a filter option for Pharmacy, 24 hours, and overnight parking. · “Reverse” button has been added to Multi-stop trip, so you can reverse the trip. · Campground choice for “All” is now in. You can now search for any campground, rather than having to choose by type first. · Some issues which caused the Virtual Dashboard gauges to be inaccurate on occasion have been fixed. · Startup Tips have been added. These appear every 5th startup. When you select “Don’t show again”, that tip is no longer presented. You can see the tips at anytime as a group by selecting Tips and Tutorials from Preferences, or the Legal Warning screen. · “Avoid list” button to find and re-enable permanently avoided road segments has been added in Preferences. · The screen brightness control has been improved. · Checklist has been updated with fire safety. · Several other bug fixes / enhancements / speed improvements based on feedback.

RE: Rand McNally 7710 wrong directions

Haven't hit that yet, but they just posted a major software upgrade for the 7710 with lots of fixes, changes etc (brighter screen, Woodalls, faster off-course recalc, etc.) You might try docking yours and get the upgrade to see if that helps.

RE: Rand McNally RVND7710 & Magellan 9165T RV GPS comparisons

Got the Rand McNally. Need the hood or shield. CW was no help and so far no one else knows about it around here. Sources? Rand McNally store for hood, Amazon for glare shields.

RE: Rand McNally TripMaker® RVND™ 5510 GPS

And make sure you are getting the right software, Mac or PC. They had a goof in the original manual, pointed you to the wrong version of docking software, created all kinds of issues during registration. PC users were loading the Mac version. They added an update page to later shipped units with proper directions to which software to load. I have the 7710 (7" version) and worked perfect with the right docking software.

RE: Rand McNally RVND7710 & Magellan 9165T RV GPS comparisons

Jack, I just received my RM 7710 and it does have an insert telling how to load the docking software with instructions for both Windows and Mac, and at the support site you have the option of downloading either version... Dock download I don't have a Mac so I can't tell you more, but it does exist.

RE: Banks system on DP

I have the Banks system on my ISC 350 and do notice a difference. Came with the coach from prior owner so can't speak to the cost/benefit. Will say that one time the electronic 'smarts' for the system died (replaced) and while it was not working I noticed a significant loss of power from what I was used to with the system working properly. Can't speak for competing products, just will say I'm very happy to have it.

RE: 2010 Winnebago 40L. . .from Hell !

BobR: BTW, we have two grey 3" id hoses which terminate (one in the water service bay and the other in the RF forward compartment which blow cold air (A/C) and NO ONE has a clue why they are there and why they blow cold A/C. Eric Eric, I feel for your problems. While some are component problems and other manufacturer's fault, there is no way this unit should have left the factory, IMHO. There's an episode of "Ultimate Factories" out a while back that was devoted to Winnebago building a Vectra (think it was around a 2007 model) and they touted all the Quality control checks that the factory goes through. Think the economy took that out of the equation... Might be able to help you with this one. What you might be seeing is the Winnebago version of a heated bay system. Not sure on your newer unit, but on the older ones like mine these only blow hot air when the propane furnace is used, not the electric heat pump. You might try switching your thermostat to "propane heat" and see if you get hot air out of the hoses. Good luck with getting your issues resolved!

RE: 2005 Itasca Horizon 40ad - does it have a heated basement?

Darryl, Like for mine, the answer is 'sorta.' Depends on your expectation/definition of "heated." When running the propane furnace (not the electric heat pump) the heat is forced through the floor vents. The heat from the duct plus some strategic cutouts (like probably under your bathroom sink) will allow warm air to heat the bays a bit. When you run the electric heat pump the air comes through the ceiling vents and doesn't hit the bays. Think warming them on those nights where it gets near freezing. Don't expect them to stay toasty, nor will they keep you from freezing up at sub-zero temps.

RE: Current GPS comparison chart?

Just went through a review/compare/purchase cycle myself. Can tell you right off the bat that the 7" requirement will be your limiting factor. There's only about 4 or 5 GPS units in that size, and not from the major players like TomTom or Garmin. Rand McNally, Magellan and Cobra are the 3 manufacturers I found with current offerings that are either RV or Trucker models. Think there might have been one or two more that were very Trucker-specific that I ruled out. Your other requirements will limit your choices further... if you believe the Internet then all have issues with support. Glare is a frequent complaint on those large units with smooth screens. Lifetime maps are available but sometimes with an extra cost.

RE: Niagara Falls camping

We really like the KOA on Lundy's Lance. Couple of pools, hot tubs and right on the bus route. +1. Nice park, have stayed there several times.
