RE: I need help deciding....

I would make a firm offer with your local dealer of choice and be ready to walk away. They can't be fighting off customers these days. Figure your final price you comfortable with and go a little lower than that. All they can say is no and you go elsewhere. Just make them very aware you are financially approved and ready to sign right now. Not yet another dreamer who might be able to complete.

RE: Good international internet provider (Canada & US)?

Get 2 providers. I use Rogers in Canada but that's a corporate deal I don't control. in the US where people are Verizon has good coverage but where there are fewer folks I've found coverage is regional. IE one provider is great in WA but terrible in CA etc. if you get a MiFi for example you can just swap the provider cards. I do that when travelling internationally, I'll find a local cel provider and usually buy prepaid time. And because it's internet I don't care the phone number changes all the time....

RE: Rv Park Websites - Rates

Well to pile on here I look at the website for research and info. online reservation options with site selections are ideal. but before you get my money I will: Look at rates, look at site layout, look at pictures, and yes I don't care about smiling kids on the swing set, even though I may want a playground. I want to see how jam packed the sites are together. And no I don't want to see 1960's era TT and hair cuts. I want long shots down the road so I can get a sense of tightness or space. I want a reasonably accurate site map so I can look at the sites and see where I might want to be. A list of extra costs/amenities if their are any. Old crappy looking web sites or ones that don't work properly also tell me the place isn't run as well as it could be. Marketing is important. Once you've passed those tests then I go off to RVparkreviews.com and see what is real from actual people. Only then do you get my reservation. Now that I've written that kinda makes me glad I'm not in that business, can't be easy!

RE: I need help deciding....

I think the Bounder is a good coach but when we looked (circa 2007) the devil was in the details. Winnie seems to do things just a tick better. Wiring is straighter, plumbing tied down cleaner. Little things like the MotorAid heat and hot water. Cleaner finish on the parts you can't see without climbing under drawers, couches, under the actual coach. Basically the Itasca we own vs the Bounder we looked at was cleaner in finish. It didn't look as slapped together. Now, Bounder owners here are a very happy crowd in general so I don't want to say they are junk. Just the one we looked at was not as well assembled as the one we ultimately bought. So, look at the details on both very carefully. Features like sat and washer are add ons or "sizzle" I look for good quality steak ;) And yes I would buy another Itasca should I ever need to. Their support and documentation from Winnie directly, several dealers/service sites I've dealt with have always been good.

RE: run away country fest!

A couple weeks back we saw a Class C with a Honda generator making not much (but some) noise. OK fine they stayed within the hours of the camp ground etc. However not 3' from the generator was a power pedestal that for $5/day you could consume as much of the 30Amp circuit as you could. Talk about penny wise, pound foolish! The OP was nice enough to stay quiet. As would I, however if the rules allowed such a thing and I needed the genny for AC or Microwave or whatever *and* I was there first *and* the tenters could have moved further away I think I'd have used my genny anyway. Courtesy goes both ways.

RE: Analysis of battery/charging times using generator...

genny use is generally considered to consume between .5 and 1 gallon per hour. or $2.12 to $4.25 per hour money wise using the OP rates. at best one might save an hour and to be generous 2 hours per day of genny use that would be 2.12x120 days = $254.40 in fuel use or best case save $508.80. Could be worth your time. Get some quotes on batteries (however many you'd need 2-4 I assume) and see the difference in price between Lead Acid and AGM.

HMM wonder what they changed mechanically on 2/27/2012 or did the lawyers just pick a date?

RE: Places to see and visit in BC!!

Depends, just like OR, BC has coast and desert and pretty much most in between. Vancouver/Victoria for city stuff like Aquariums and museums, Kelowna to Osoyoos for some great wines, Whistler for some action (Ziplines, hikes, ATV rides). Merritt for Ranches and horses stuff. Northern Vancouver Island for Grizzly and Orca (Telegraph Cove comes to mind). However a 4 day trip is a bit short to see much of anything! I would suggest 1 location and actually see it instead of just driving by and checking off a box on a list but not seeing any detail.

RE: Ford Escape toad

There was an on again off again thing with the transmissions for some of those products (Fusion, Escape and their sister brands). The current model manual will be the definitive source.

RE: Rathtrevor High Tech Sani Money Machine

In talking with a PFO maintenance guy at Alice Lake recently this is going to be the "new standard" for all PP. :( His fear is that people will rebel and just dump after losing their money too many times. With no hole open :E Instead of allowing us to pay the $5 when we register we've got a situation where we've complicated a very simple thing at great cost (machines are $13 grand per the guy's info)!!!!!! That's a lot of "use" to break even. Changing a regi form to add sewer dump would solve that the same way would it not?:R :S It seems we are fixing something the hard way IMHO :?

RE: towing a 5200# jeep with a gas motorhome; 8.1 l wrkhrs

Well I"ve towed my 3200# Jeep up and over some good sized mountains. I'd just go slower with 5000# behind me. I think if you stay under your limits - weigh the GC and maybe don't fill the gas ;) you *could* do it.

RE: towing a 5200# jeep with a gas motorhome; 8.1 l wrkhrs

Welcome to the forum. Check your limits, most gas coaches have a 5000# hitch so you won't find many doing what you're doing. your limit is lower of GCVWR-(actual weight of the coach) or the hitch/frame limits. On my coach for example GCVWR is 26,500 - 18000 = 8500# but my hitch is limited to 5000 so my tow limit is 5000.

RE: "upgrade" to Class A

2005 or 2006 is the year of the upgraded 305 to 362 HP 3 valve. I'd try and find a 2005/2006 or newer F53 chassis. Can someone with a better memory confirm that for me? FWIW we're ~18 000 + Jeep and drive up and down mountains all day. Sure it'll scream a bit on 14% grades but I can pass anything with a dually back end. Semis, DP's C's and 5ers :B I get 6-8 MPG or one full day driving per tank. That is with genny running for AC and the Jeep hanging off the back. There's lots of power but about the only downside I can see is the 5K tow limit. With 2 kids and stuff a larger TOAD might be nice. But that pumps up the DP to one with a 10K limit and that is a real jump in $$. So for now the kids will just have to have stuff on their laps ;)

RE: Two Toads?

The overall weight of both may come to play. If you have a 5000# tow limit as I do well that will be sucked up by the Jeep @ ~3200-3500# and ~1000# of trailer. Leaves weight room for a bike but not much else. Now if you have a 10K tow limit then you'd be golden, pick any small vehicle and load and go. Although years ago I had a F350. I always wanted to put a Smart Car in the bed. So my truck could have a dinghy :B

RE: Windshield Cleaners

Simple Green has taken off some pretty stuck/dried on bugs and bug juice. Then I go back over with Windex to clean the window itself. Otherwise just straight Windex works just fine. the key is to let the Simple Green soak a bit.

RE: Breakdown X 2...

Jim I think once this particular repair is sorted you really do need to take a hard look at your options. The existing coach will continue to have stuff fail. It's just at that age. So you can keep the devil you know and manage through each repair *or* you can take a big leap of faith and buy off on a new coach with newer stuff and features you want etc. However even if you buy brand new you'll still have some stuff to deal with. What would I do in your situation? I think I'd be looking really hard at PPL for coaches (used) that fit my budget and then start a chart with 3 columns for 3 kinds of coaches: New coach purchased new | Existing Coach | Cream Puff Used coach and then list all the pros and cons you can think of (most of which will be financial) Then score them 1-10 and see what coach comes up "best". this of course is only a gut check type of process. It really doesn't prove anything except where your brain is at when you fill it out. We did that when we bought and it was actually surprising to see what ended up where. oh and good luck with the new new engine! regardless of the possible trade/upgrade.
