RE: pop up crank. Can it be removed cuz its in the way.

This is interesting... I commented that I thought the OP's handle was perhaps homemade, but by judging from the replies that this is stock... and maybe mine when I had the old pop-up was in fact a handmade version!
I never thought of modifying one's crank, but that must have been mine... never thought to take a photo of it either as I thought mine was the norm.
It had much smoother mandrel bends, it was longer which allowed a very easy method of cranking rotation and it had a sleeve over the hand portion. There was a roll pin and washer at the bend and a threaded bolt holding another washer at the end of the hand part to hold the sleeve on.

It should be removable.... just like a wrench fitting into a socket.
It looks as if that is a homemade crank and the weld is just to hold the adapter... you sure with a good tug on it that it won't come out? perhaps some light taps with a hammer behind it to see if it moves???

Guanella Pass Re-Opening...!

SRW Dodge with Northstar as described in sig. Real world weights as shown below. Mods include higher LI tires on stock steel wheels, 9000XL, Helwig, and custom made spring perches to engage overloads sooner. The combo handles great!
1) Truck only, full tank diesel, no tailgate, no passengers:
front = 4,540
rear = 2,960
total = 7,500
2) Truck only, full tank, 1 driver, tools & gear just before purchase:
front = 4,920
rear = 3,340
total = 8,160
3) Camper on after picking it up on purchase with: full tank diesel, dry camper except for 2 full LP tanks, some gear (tools & wood for camper bulkhead blocking):
front = 4,860
rear = 5,940
total = 10,800
4) Camper on, full tank diesel, fully loaded and wet, full cassette reservoir, generator, gasoline food, beer, gear, guns, ammo for a week out:
front = 4,980
rear = 6,540
total = 11,520
Conclusions:
COG on this particular camper dry is probably closer to the center line of axle depending on cargo. My only "pseudo dry weighing" was weighing #3: with some gear that I brought to assembly the blocking in between the truck and camper. Both LP tanks were full and they are located at the rear of the TC affecting COG weights of a "half-wet" camper. COG per mfgr. is about 3" forward of the axle WITH full water which I did not have on this scale measure.
Real world camping out- to- the- woods camping weight is reflecting in weighing #4. Some weight will transfer over time as the forward mount fresh water tank gets used and gets deposited to the gray tank in the rear.
If my camper were any heavier or I did not go off-road as much as I do I would be considering more the idea of 19.5's... but my setup handles the load pretty well... I was a little surprised at the CAT slips and what kind of weight I am carrying once it is all loaded up.

RE: Hydraulic Jack Leak on TC - Need Help STAT

I had to repair the hydraulic jacks on my 94 pop-up.
The tall "ram rod" type device was pitted at the top portion... and when raising the camper the inner side of the seals wiped the pitting causing it to leak even more. Topping off the fluid did no good as it would almost all leak out in a day or two.
But... you state you left a valve open. Normally an open valve will not leak (unless opened ALL the way.) If your seals are OK (i.e. no leaks before this indecent) then perhaps topping off/ filling with fluid might just do the trick. I would find out what type of fluid is compatible with the seals before throwing in any type of hydraulic fluid or ATF... I sorta' recall that HJ sent/ sold me the recommended type when I ordered my kits several years ago. It would be a bummer if the wrong fluid did damage to an acceptable non- leaking seal.
I have instructions/ repair manual of how to do the repair somewhere in my camper literature pile at home. It is not a hard job but requires some mechanical knowledge and tools. But if one is leaking then the others are not far behind (as I found out on mine.)
I might lean towards replacing them... and based the comment about hand strength I might consider going with electric jacks.

The best option would be bolts with nuts and washers if there is access behind to install a 2 piece fastener. If not...
...pop rivets in my opinion will be a better choice over self tap screws in the pull direction in this scenario.
The pop rivet will "mushroom over" to create a small type of flange. Self tapping screws by their nature might be taper- shaped in the wrong direction of the force you are asking it to resist; it could pull out.
Depending on the force applied and all else equal, the pop rivets should hold longer whereas the ST screws might pull out.
The Nutserts look interesting, but I could not get a full idea of how it works from the video provided. There was no visual of the pre- prep... all I saw was tightening of a faster. But once installed it looked beefy!

What if anything nowadays can we believe as "news" anymore? When seeking information do we now need to wonder about internet news trolls and if the story is real?
When I first read about the dentist story I was not really too shocked because weird and stranger things have happened...
Case in point- today there is a story about a Minnesota girl forced to run in diaper for bad grades.

I feel that the location where I live will pose very little risk of someone taking it... but try to secure items as best possible for personal piece of mind. Old habits are hard to break... Heck, I still lock the truck/ camper even out in the middle of nowhere! As a kid I had a bike stolen... that feeling of loss and violation really sucked. I guess I have been securing things wherever possible since then.
I like the idea of using some type of nylock to hold it in place in the bed. Perhaps i will look to that direction for now.
BTW- the liner I have is not a rectangular one, it is the type that wraps around the wheel wells of the truck bed. I used to have one that was just 4x8 that sat right under the camper's base; it was easier to roll and remove... This one which takes the shape of the whole bed is a little more cumbersome to roll when removing.

@RaodLover: I agree with folks here... and revel in your joy.
But... You should get some sort of royalty or compensation for their use of your image.
Might I suggest you contact company and try to finagle a Tork Lift ball cap... that way you can keep the sun off your brow and look even cooler while enjoying the elusive 15 minutes... then if anyone asks you can say yes, it is "legal" for TL to use your likeness. ;)
Thanks for sharing you excitement with us! It brought back for me some distant memories from long ago. I remember the kick when I was a kid when the local newspaper published an article on my dad's home built travel trailer! We did not receive any compensation other than recognition from friends and neighbors. It was really cool then too!

You may want to insure that the Tyvek is appropriately spaced from any heat sources such as the furnace exhaust or any other possible heat sources... I do not know if it is a concern...you may be fine, but a little extra clearance for assurance is not a bad thing. I tend to try and "look ahead" and err a little extra on safety's side.
ON EDIT: I had not looked on the Tyveck website in a while... out of curiosity I looked and found this: DuPont™ Tyvek® is combustible and should be protected from a flame and other high heat sources. If the temperature of DuPont™ Tyvek® reaches 750°F (400°C)

Herculiner is great for the truck that only does TC hauling and the occasional run to the local home center. I cannot complain.
... but for severe contractor-duty type of work it can be lacking because it is relatively thin compared the the professionally installed liners.

Color me cautious but I added a half gallon of RVAF... cheap insurance.
I am not concerned about the lines except for the connections. I have heard that these are the weakest link. Cheap insurance to save possible hassles later... at over 9,500 feet who know what temps "Mom Nature" can hand out... even in May!

Good points everyone! The bottom of the camper is enclosed with the added 3/4 ply... it is screwed on with caulk at the perimeter where it contacts the exposed factory frame. I can removed it if absolutely necessary.
If I were to mount it, I would cut holes in the mat which match the fastening hardware... and the rubber could be permanently attached but the unit could be removed as a whole... (wish I thought of it when I first attached the wood as it 'prolly would have been easier to install the mat while the ply was off the camper)... sounds like a lot of work now especially when trying to apply even and constant force opposite gravity.
I think I will forgo this idea at this time.

Well, the temps are still on the low side, but the snows have not materialized in my local as expected... it did flurry during the day like it meant business... don't know what the Front Range is looking like. Too bad... we NEED the moisture!

I agree that leaving the mat in the bed would be the easiest and that there is a very low chance of it being stolen (but I said that about my stereo in front of my house...but that was NJ...)
...if I do leave it in the bed is there the chance of wind current while driving at high speed causing any lifting of it off the bed surface... does anyone put some sort of a weight in the bed to keep the mat in place?
